If you don't have much time in Lisboa this is definitely a great place to stop and try out different Portuguese dishes, satisfy your palette needs under one roof. From cheeses, meats, seafood, pastries, wines and cocktails, this place has it all. Now forgive me for forgetting the name of the restaurant I decided to get dinner at but I can tell you it is the one located at the center main entrance by the sit down restaurant with the patio. I got the braised beef cheek with the purée sweet potatoes. This was one of the most tender flavorful pieces of beef I've ever eaten, which gently melted in your mouth, along with the sweet potatoes which were buttery and delightful. As for my sangria, I got it from the Beirão stand, it's the liqueur of Portugal. The mixture of the liqueur, fruits and the smoked cinnamon sticks really made this sangria stand out and feel special. I might consider making this myself at home. For dessert go down to the end of the building and pick up Portugal's go to pastry, the pastel de nata. They have a variety of different types of food booths in this space, ranging from traditional Portuguese food to more familiar foods such as pizza, Asian, ice cream, and soups. The space is filled with plenty of tables, but it was extremely packed with people. We were feeling a bit unwell, so we weren't too adventurous with our food selection the day we went. We went with the Pad Thai and Prosciutto Pizza. For what it's worth, the Pad Thai was okay. It was definitely not close to the best ones I've had, but it was a good craving fix. The Prosciutto pizza, however, was quite tasty. If you're thinking of getting the pizza, I would share it with the rest of the party so that you can also try the other food booths as well. If you're looking for a collection of Lisbon's finest chefs without going to their brick and mortar, the Time Out market is perfect for you. You'll have many choices from codfish, seafood, steak, sandwiches and pasteis de natas. We tried the codfish and scrambled egg which was good. The sardines on toast was also nice. The steak sandwich with foie gras and truffle sauce however left me unsatisfied. Pasteis de nata was great but I prefer my egg tart back in NYC. I was skeptical about going here because it was described as a tourist trap but I'm so glad I ended up going. Time Out market features a wide variety of Portuguese food vendors from all over the city, big and small. Would recommend ordering food first and then grabbing a table while you wait. Wine can also be purchased on many of the stands, and a great idea as you're traveling through all the different dishes. There are some spots around the exterior where you can sit at the bar and be served. We tried a truffle pizza and a seafood risotto from two different stands: both delicious. Wish we would have been in Lisbon longer to go back for a second chance to try some food :) read more

This was an incredible stop on my short visit to Lisbon and I would 10/10 come back again. BUT, be warned- if you aren't into seafood you are limited to 1/5 or so of the restaurants. My comfort level is whitefish and maybe some grilled salmon, I know most people aren't as silly about this as me- but just be warned- VERY seafood heavy. We visited 4 stalls for our meal, a sangria from a wine bar in the venues middle, some croquettes right as you walked in the door, an Asian food stall for some chicken satay and pad Thai, and lastly a pastel de nata on the way out. Wow this place was so cool. I can see why it was so packed. There are a few cute shops and a ton of restaurants here. We actually came two nights because they had a couple of booths where I could get GF and it was kind of tough to get GF in Lisbon. The first time we went I Pinoquio because I seen many rave reviews about the seafood on other GF blogs. This place was kind of a let down as they told me none of the seafood was actually GF and I could either get the steak or chicken (I opted for the chicken). The chicken was cooked very well and the green beans were nice and crisp but I had really been wanting seafood so it was kind of a let down. Also, the service here was a bit slow and the waiter was definitely annoyed by all of my questions. The second time I went to Monte Mar. They were absolutely amazing about my food allergies and and I felt 100% confident that they understood GF. The food was also delicious (I had shrimp with a baked crushed potato), but the shrimp portion was a bit small so I was still a bit hungry after. I can definitely recommend coming here for a date night/hang out with friends as their are so many options. We came here twice during our four day stay in Lisbon, for lunch and a late night snack. I have heard so much about this place when I was doing research on Lisbon and decided that this would be our first destination for food. After checking into our hotel, we jumped into an Uber and came directly here with an empty stomach. The space is well organized with all the food stalls in the perimeter and seats in the middle of the large and well lit space. Even though the market was extremely crowded during both of our visits, we only had to wait a few minutes before seats opened up. There are a lot of food options and it could be a bit overwhelming for first time Lisbon visitors like us. We walked around and tried to get a good sense of what each of the stall offered before making our decision. We ended up getting scallops & squid ink risotto from Alexandre Silva, as well as grill octopus and sardines in tempura batter from Miguel Laffan. Last, but not least, we ended our meal with not one, but four Pastéis de nata from Manteigaria. All of the dishes were very good and reasonably priced. I loved the fact that there are things for everyone, from seafood to meat and cheese, as well as great and cheap wine. We ended up coming back here the next day for an after dinner drink that turned into a late night snack as we tried a selection of croquetes from Croqueteria. We also brought a few cans of mackerel and sardines from the Conserveira de Lisboa, which we gobbled up as a midday snack a day later. I don't understand the mixed reviews for this place, I do see how one's experience is shaped by the items they order here. There are so many options, and I am sure that not all of them are as great as the dishes we had. I would recommend you google the "best dishes" in this market prior to coming here so that you have an idea what the signature dishes are for each of the stalls. It's a modern food hall with options for modern and traditional Portugese food, packs of pasteis de nata, gelato, and wine/cocktail stands. It's very family friendly, and despite being crowded was easy to find a spot to sit as another group was leaving. After you order, the stands provide a light-up numbered tracker to notify when your food is ready to come pick up. Time Out Market is by far the biggest chef's hall that I have ever visited. It houses at least 20 restaurants serving some of Lisbon's finest food, desserts, and beverages. The market is conveniently located just steps away from the Cais Do Sodre metro station. Once you walk into Mercado da Ribiera, turn left and up to the second floor for a bird's eye view of the market. Head back down and make two lefts to reach the entrance. The interior has tons of cafeteria-style seats. However, this place gets busy! It is an impossible game to find seats for large parties. Some restaurants have restaurant-side seating on the other side of the cashiers. This works well for small groups and you won't have to fight for seating. You'll just have to order from your seats. However, after 11pm, the market starts to slow down and seating is plentiful, which is great if you're in the mood for a late night snack or late dinner. There are so many restaurants to choose from. If you can't decide, you can choose food options from multiple restaurants. Alternatively, you can return on another day and try a different dish. Each restaurant provides a pager that lights up when your order is ready. Lisbon and its tourists are lucky to have a place like Time Out Market that has such a variety of food choices in one location and is open until midnight. read more

My party of 4 stopped by around 1 pm on a Wednesday afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds. Busy, but definitely manageable. We did not need to elbow our way for a table. Second, the FOOD! Ever since watching Someone Feed Phil, I had to stop by Conserveira de Lisboa for some canned fish and Manteigana for pasteis. The Conserveria de Lisboa was staffed by a very unfriendly woman. When I asked which flavors were most popular, she just replied that everyone has different tastes and did not offer any other guidance. Nonetheless, we bought half a dozen as souvenirs (thankful for the English descriptions on the cans) If you are wondering whether canned fish is worth the hype, YES. It is not fishy at all, but quite delicate and tender. They have definitely perfected this craft. Manteigana pasteis were so delicious! If I had to compare to Pasteis de Belem is that Manteigana has a perfectly set egg custard with a beautiful caramelization while Pasteis de Belem has the best, crispy crust. There are so many high-quality choices it can seem a bit overwhelming at first and a 12:30 it was fairly crowded. There are large communal tables in the center with a lot of seats but we still struggled to find two open seats. Totally a food market, but I question the quality compared to individual restaurants in the area.
