We came to Time Out Market for a late lunch on our first day in Lisbon. We knew we wanted to try some local traditional portuguese dishes but didn't want to find a specialty restaurant. The space is airy and large but can get crowded easily. Even when we came around 2:30pm, it was pretty packed and seats were a bit difficult to find. We ended up ordering the suckling pig sandwich from Henrique Sá Pessoa and daily special which was bacalhau and a couple of conservas from Marlene Vieira. We came looking for bifana and were excited to see the suckling pig sandwich. The meat was very tender with crispy edges and served with baked potato chips. The bacalhau is a portuguese classic of baked codfish and potatoes. The fish was surprisingly really good and well-seasoned with super flaky meat and a buttery texture. We enjoyed the conservas we ordered as well (crab & guac and octopus). Overall this is a great stop of a quick lunch! There's plenty of dessert and drink options as well (we saw ice cream, pastries, pastel de nata and even a port tasting stall). It's a great way to get a taste of Portugal in one spot! read more

This place is amazing! A collection of all the best food spots in Lisbon according to Time Out Market in one place. What more can you ask for? It's very touristy and can be quite overwhelming, but if you don't mind crowds, eating at a table with strangers, and long lines for some of the places it's totally worth it. I ate at Ground Burger, which is said to have the best American style burgers in Lisbon. They weren't lying! The burgers were a nice size and so flavorful and juicy. I also ordered Pasteis de Nata - a custard tart which is a signature pastry in Portugal from Manteigaria. Sooo good! Next up was Crush Doughnuts. All I can say is wow. These donuts were colossal lol. They had many flavors to choose from, but I ended up with a simple Cinnamon Sugar donut. Yummy. Lastly, I had Gelato from Gelato Davvero. Another hit! Please skip that OG Prego shop (steak sandwich) - we had a very unpleasant experience with the staff. I ordered 2 sandwiches for my kids - he pretended he couldn't understand me... I used hand gesture to signal "2 sandwiches". Guess he's not a fan of my Brooklyn accent. Ended up with only 1 Prego sandwich - which was a happy accident - bc my kids said it was very "mid". My teen kids liked the pizza better - bc it has taste. lol We also lined up exactly at 12, for the suckling pig spot... it was good but not worth the wait. I was so excited to come here for dinner, but the place was so packed to the gills with tourists that my family had to leave. Additionally, all of the signs for restaurants were in the same color and font, making it very hard to distinguish between anything. The ambulatory-like areas along the sides of the market with bar stools were slightly better in that they had shorter lines. Even still, there was nowhere for four people to sit and eat, at 7pm on a Tuesday night. I am sure the food is good, and "the best of Lisbon in one place" is great in theory. In practice though, this place is a tourist trap. Instead of coming here, it would be a good idea to visit the larger permanent restaurants that have outposts in the market. read more

Had a tomato sourdough situation, some soup that featured spinach quinoa meatballs and possibly the best clams and sushi ever had in a food market situation ... or maybe even, ever. Heard so many people go on and on about Timeout so I had to see if I was missing some sort hidden gem. To be honest. I was impressed with the cleanliness. I saw very little trays left behind with discarded waste. I was also impressed with the selection of restaurant stalls to choose from. Something for everyone. What I didn't like...food is VERY overpriced. I ate at a few places in the area and the Time Out prices seemed double, even triple what I paid. Service is luke warm at best. I guess if you have 100's coming in all day long then there is really no incentive to even try. Employees are short tempered and portions of food is half the size of what you get at a independent place that is trying to compete with monstrosities such as Time Out. Want mediocre food and a small pour of wine and pay a lot for it?? This is your place. Personally, I will stick to the mom and pop places in Alfama. read more

Just an outstanding place to try a variety of food and drink. Was our first stop in the trip to Portugal and we will went back 3 times. Not only awesome food stalls from various purveyors around Lisbon, but there are 4 of the top Lisbon chefs that also have stalls. We started with Pasteis de Nata from Manteigeria - some say better than Pasteis de Belem - they are insane. A nice permanent establishment of a market/food court. More food court than market. Lots of variety of cuisines and even dessert options. Some of the exterior restaurants have a separate outside seating area in addition to the interior bar seating. Others are seated throughout the massive middle area of seating within the compound. Our cocktail, Super Bock beer, and dessert choices were definitely the best part of our Time Out experience. Try to go at an off-time on a weekday, becauase we wandered the overwhelmingly large space for at least 30 minutes before we snagged a spot to sit. Then, we had to take turns ordering food so we could save our seats. It was chaotic and the waits very long, even at 2:30-ish on a Tuesday. I am sure that factored into our experience. After ordering our food, we then waited about 30 minutes minimum for each food, aside from Croqueterita, which was already fried up and ready to serve. We did appreciate that the stalls gave you a buzzer that buzzed when your food was ready for pick-up, making it more convenient to snag a drink and take a seat while you waited. Tartine-Sneaky Sneaky shrimp dog. The cold lettuce quickly chilled the shrimp and the tangy sauce was a bit overpowering. The bun was toasted and the stand-out of the dish. Sea Me-tempura shrimp and tomato rice. Lacking flavor/seasonings. Rice dry. Super Bock beer experience-brown ale-amazing! Croqueterita- curry, lamb, stew, cod au gratin. Curry and stew tasty. No sauce given. All tasted very similar except curry. On the way out, we grabbed some desserts from Crush Donuts and some pasteis de nata from Manteigaria. These were definitely better than our savory/main meal choices. Bar- All Dem Wines-their version of sangria with red wine. Topped with thyme sprig and a cinnamon stick. Pimm's Cup-great! They cut up fruit galore and shook Pimm's with 7up on ice to make a true Pimm's cup. We would only go back to the market if/when the other side of the building with local goods stalls is open. This is where I had the best meal of my entire trip in Portugal. I was not expecting that - absolutely blown away. There is a lot of quality food to choose from but I'm so glad I ended ordering at HENRIQUE SÁ PESSOA. Let me tell ya, it's the quality of a very high end restaurant. It took time to make so I know they make to order. I went with the "Leitão Confitado a Baixa Temperatura." Best pork I've had in my life. It was paired with a sweet potato puree and pieces of citrus and my mind was blown. Clearly the chef is a genius at pairing ingredients to have the biggest impact on your taste buds. Anywhoo, I know this is a review of the market itself so I'll focus on that - there is so much food and drinks to offer here and I think anyone could find what they're craving since there is such is many options! There's seating in the center and workers that come quickly to clean up immediately after someone finishes. So hopefully you don't have to wait too long to get yourself a seat. Make sure you take a lap around to browse all the options you have before deciding because there is a huge variety of food available. I opted for a few small snacks as I was only peckish; pasteis de bacalhau(€1.95 each) and pasteis de nata(€1.30 each). This supposedly elevates the food court concept from the usual suspects, aka national or regional typically fast food chains, cloistered together in an area with a common casual dining area. Typical back in the day when we had malls. You know malls. Shop eat hang... as a teen or once married with kiddos, the dinner spot.you know when nobody in the could agree what to ok eat, ok ok ok we could typically get what each person wants and still have the facade of eating dinner together; albeit with plastic cutlery, trays paper cups styrofoam platters and condiments in plastic pouches. All equipped with those combination drink coasters electric buzzers deals to alert your order is ready sending each member in different directions once you were able to snag a table big enough for all of you and not near the obnoxious loud assed family, or sniffing snickering teens reeking of weed having watched Harry Potter for the umptenth time at the malls multiplex cinema. From opening to closure at midnight they say this place is packed. I unfortunately felt there was a ton of cross pollination happening in each area. You go to a fish n chips booth featuring fare from the sea with spuds you don't expect to also be able to order a prego (Portuguese beef sandwich) and a slice of pizza. Not when you go to a booth featuring prego sandwiches to get a bowl of ramen. Confused yet?? That's when my skepticism goes on high alert. If you specialize in a specific region of cuisine, stay in your freaking lane! It's definitely targeted for tourists, but I would still recommend checking it out! It's a giant food hall with so many different food options and so much seating for small or large groups. Yes, this is a tourist trap but honestly, the condensed selection of some of the city's best is so incredibly convenient. There isn't any service here because you just go straight to the counters and order; you will be given a buzzer which will ring when your food is ready for pickup. I had a great time exploring different options and some of my favorites were the croquettes and then of course the egg tarts from Manteigaria. Either way, it is a great place to come with groups as everyone can pick something different and share together. The variety of produce at the Time Out Market is mind blowing. Produce from all over Portugal and the world, mostly local. Most of the vendors are super nice and helpful, a few not so much, but those are the ones that I didn't buy from. We loved the Time Out Market. It is a fabulous food hall conveniently located across from the Cais do Sodre train station. Very convenient when you want some great food outside of traditional lunch / dinner hours. It does get busy between 2-3pm and 8-10pm. You order at any restaurant, are given a pager and go find a seat in the communal tables until your food is ready. We stopped in a few times after returning from a trip on the train to Belem and Cascais and headed directly across the street and a block to your left. Our favorite was Manteigaria Silva. I visited Time Out Market on a Friday night while in Lisbon and this place was packed. Tik Tok had a lot of people posting about the restaurants and I just had to go check it out. I have never seen a food hall like this in the United States. We have some nice ones but this one was HUGE! The price of the food fell right in line with what we would pay in the States so no problem there. I ordered the most amazing Donuts at Donut Krush and a Lobster roll with beer. The only downside is quality control, if the market stall cannot produce the same renditions as the parent restaurant, then it's a bust. During my 2 visits to Time Out, I was able to order the octopus hot dog, croquettes, seafood at Marisqueira Azul and several cheese/charcuterie plates. Everything I tried was well executed, moderately priced and satisfying.
