I have been a unpaid subscriber with "Time Out New York" emails for a long time which provides hope and light in times of darkness. I occasionally receive their "Top 10 Restaurants" or "Coolist Underground Bars In NYC" and "50 Best Bars in NYC" which actually prompts me to Yelp bookmark and ultimately visit to patronize. "Time Out New York" enables me to separate workplace life from attaining a personal life because I suffer from burn out for years. The emails keep me informed of the latest restaurants, bars, cafes, museums, and events in NYC as life appears to return to normalcy of pre COVID-19 pandemic era. I have actually find some of their listings inaccurate and agree with Yelpers, and vice versa, respectively, with some reviews where "Time Out Magazine" was accurate with their brief description. Yelpers are more detailed and write a narrative personal first hand experience. read more

Time Out New York was a weekly news magazine that came out every Wednesday. When I was on my way to work someone would hand me a copy or there would be a pile of them at the entrance to the subway. I really enjoyed this quick read. It keeps me up to date on the latest movies, restaurants, exhibits and so much more. Since I don't see a paper edition available now I read the news on their Facebook page. I'm really pleased they keep their Facebook page up to date. It's enough information for me to feel like I'm keeping current with the happenings in my city. I had the pleasure of visiting the TONY headquarters for a photo shoot*. The office space is absolutely stunning and is decked out with one of the highest NYC ceilings that I've ever seen**. The staff were very friendly, and the photographer that was assigned to the spread was super comforting and patient. Thank goodness for that, as the only time in my life that I've ever had my picture taken professionally was for school yearbooks***. Not to mention the fact that I was totally overwhelmed by the fact that my single-dom was going to be broadcasted for all of NYC to see! All of the correspondence that I had with the spread writer, fact-checkers, and photo shoot organizers were super courteous and professional. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. ...and, the magazine! It wouldn't even be a little bit of an exaggeration to say that I would be the most boring guy in NYC without the help of my weekly issue of TONY. TONY provides his consulting services to me for less than twenty bucks a year AND he's delivered right to my door every week. Best. Wingman. EVER. I'll be a subscriber for as long as I'm a New Yorker. Which, at this point, will most likely be forever. ___ *I was featured in a recent "single in the city" spread. I. Love. Time Out. I don't know what it is about it, but I'm always happy to find it in my mailbox every Wednesday. It's just a fun magazine. They always have something really insightful about the city, but in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. It's just really goofy. It definitely tries too hard to be cool, but I find it endearing. They're good at aggregating fun stuff to do. Especially free and cheap stuff. read more

The recent issues of Time Out New York are disappointing. I live in Astoria, Queens and can not find these issues anyway. Used to be free dispensing machines around on street corners but not anymore. Harder to find than the Holy Grail. But my major complaint is this. Your food, bar and drinks selections are ridiculous. You now stopped using street addresses and phone numbers for these selected bars and restaurants. Now, you have websites instead. Do you think that riding on a subway or bus, I am going to use my smartphone to access these websites, and then, write the needed phone numbers and street addresses for these selected places on the magazine or on my arms? Please??? You are supposed to make things for the readers convenient. You use to list these, but you stopped. And you will reap the whirlwind. Readers will just turn you off. As I now do. You just are not worth the effort. . read more

I am a fan of this mag for sure. I have gotten access to so many events (free and otherwise) that I wouldn't even KNOW about had it not been for TONY. Their articles are great, their interviews are fun...However, I cannot give this magazine a perfect score despite it's amazingness. Why? Because their movie reviews are amongst the worst I've EVER read. No wait, yes consistently the WORST I HAVE EVER READ! They remind me of a 3rd grade book report. They just summarize what the movie is about, spoiling it for everyone who hasn't seen it. On top of that they never give movies made in the USA a good score. Every foreign film or movies from the 50s gets 5 stars (formerly 6 stars) and the USA movies can't seem to keep up. Man do I hate their movie reviews...everything else though, is great. read more

I didn't know you could review a magazine/website on here but 16 others did it already so why not. Time Out New York is the best overall place to get well rounded info on restaurants, events, movies, and so on in NYC. It's not perfect and they miss things from time to time but it's really the place to go if you want to stay in touch with what's going on in the city. Best of all a yearly subscription is dirt cheap. Each week a new issue comes out and has good articles highlighting something worth knowing in the city. One of the highlights for me is the sex advice article by Jamie Buffalino on the back page which is always fun to read. It doesn't matter if you're a tourist or a native New Yorker, if you want a sense of what's going on in the city, T.O.N.Y should be one of your go-to sources. read more

No matter what you're in the mood for they have a place that will satisfy your mood and need. I love their free things to do lists, and their list of places to shop. Back when print magazines were still a thing, I had a subscription to this rag. I came to my senses a few years ago and canceled the subscription. Apparently, Time Out decided to go trawling through its old subscription rolls to start an interesting scam. They send you a card saying that they've received your request to renew your subscription. Then they send you a letter saying something went wrong with the biling, and that "In order to receive your next issue, we are taking the liberty of entering a credit subscription for you. You will receive the issue in the near future and an invoice will be sent to you shortly thereafter. We hope this meets with your approval." You write them an email and ask them to drop dead and never contact you again. A few hours later, you receive a reply saying that they are having technical difficulties and cannot access any account information. And presumably, the next time you hear from them, you are seeing an official-looking invoice asking you to pay for a magazine you never wanted to buy in the first place. I realize that this is the Borscht Belt and that scamming the uninitiated is the most popular sport around here, but seriously, do you guys think we were born yesterday? Take some Time Out, would you? Stop it. Just stop. You are dying as a business, so accept it with dignity. read more

In an effort to clean out my apartment to move, I literally just skimmed two years of Time Outs and I have to say, you've got the ball rolling alright, rolling right downhill. -Removing the Borough Standings, idiotic. -Decent restaurant and bar reviews but I don't use them because the average reviews on here are more accurate... -Letting Kate Lowenstein scour the city for people who are apparently either tourists here or horrible stereotypes of NYC itself, a waste of two pages. -Adding the Seek section, better move. But having a hipster slant to it, FAIL. -Hiring then firing that dating famewhore writer, then putting in instead the "date this ___"....really moronic move. The one you did on rugby players was the most poorly done yet. -Not letting Jamie Buffalino take over the entire space of the "dance," "club," or "art" sections...a weekly poor decision as he's the only person you have on staff who isn't either a clueless hipster or just a shit excuse for a writer. In closing, I can take comfort that all the addresses were removed from the front covers. Not because I fear identity theft, but because I don't want my neighbors to know I subscribed to that crap. read more

While I do not subscribe, I really enjoy both the Time Out New York magazine and website. Both are just chock full of NY information. From the arts to the local nightlife scene...they have it covered. Definitely pick up a copy when visiting New York, or get one even if you live here. I've been a subscriber for fifteen years and have two big problems with Time Out New York. One, it's a shadow of its former self, offering very little of interest or intelligence. Second, now that it's free they're giving a big FU to subscribers. They didn't bother sending my copy out for almost two months, and now I'm getting it a week late, after every event listed has taken place. read more

I like it how it gives the upcoming events so you can plan what you want to do, also has a dine out section which i look into some times.

I got a free subscription with an under-30 theatergoers ticket deal. I read it for a while, decided I didn't like it, and we were getting two copies every week, so I canceled it. A month or two later, it came back. I ignored it again for a while, just recycled them every week, but when a note saying our subscription would be canceled if we didn't pay came and went and they kept coming, I called and canceled again. Six months went by. It came back. We started getting it consistently again. Then we moved across the country. It followed us. At this point, we'd been getting a free subscription I didn't want for several years. I called and canceled a third time back in January. GUESS WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY. Time Out New York, I hate you. There is no escape from your inane trend pieces and event listings I will never read. You are not even a good size to spread out under an art project. I still love New York City, but I hate you. read more

I subscribed for the print issues in August 2016 for 47 issues and only received 19 or 20. The customer rep lied and said I would receive an issue I never got. They bait you with the subscription extension when you try to cancel, but it's like something out of a Kafka novel because you're extending a subscription you haven't received and probably won't ever receive after the first dozen issues. read more

i like this rag of a mag cause it highlights new and interesting places to visit including food joints, bars, shows, events, etc.i really get a kick out of the dating section and how desperate some folks are .if you are a out of towner it's a good resource mag to see what's available to do around the city . i do enjoy the attention this mag gives to international and independent movies which many others do not. for some unknown reason i get free copies sent to my job once in a while which is cool cause i really don't spend money on magazines except for my daily newspaper but for what's happening in nyc i do recommend time out new york mag. read more

I live in the DC area and make frequent trips to NYC on weekends. Purchased a subscription for activities planning because the weekly issues cover events from Wednesday through Tuesday, and the issues are promised to arrive by Thursday each week. Rarely did my magazine arrive by Thursday, however, making it useless to me. Usually it arrived on Saturday, and sometimes as late as the following Wednesday. Time Out New York suggested that I contact my PO and I did several times, but that didn't help and they never offered me a refund on my subscription. Don't subscribe if you need your magazine in time but don't live in the city. read more

Time Out New York is a great resource, but unfortunately, the circulation/subscription services leaves much to be desired. If you're a subscriber, Time Out will automatically renew your subscription unless you specifically tell them not to. (At least that's what happened to me.) And even when I DID tell them that I no longer wanted to subscribe, Time Out ignored my request and I'm STILL receiving collection notices. The best part? These "collection notices" from North Shore Agency aren't binding or real--they won't affect your credit score, because it's an in-house agency. So essentially, Time Out New York bullies people into subscribing with these faux collection notices! If you've received a "notice" from North Shore Agency regarding a Time Out subscription, don't pay! Call and they have to tell you the truth. read more

Time Out New York Kids has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I have REPEATEDLY unsubscribed from their online newsletter yet they REFUSE to unsubscribe my email address. I have tried sending the request to their main email address and still no response yet my inbox is constantly spammed with emails. My mother is having the same issue with them. Unless you want to be inundated with emails on a daily bases, DO NOT sign up for their newsletter - any of them. You'll never be able to get away from them! read more

Lived in NY from 2008 until 2011. Never signed up, but for some reason received this magazine. Called to cancel and didn't think much of it. Moved to TX, and started receiving magazine at that address. Again, never signed up, never paid, never gave new address, yet here it was. Cancelled again. Recently moved to CA, and guess what? More issues are showing up with our new address. Just tried to cancel yet again, hopefully this time it sticks. Can't say much about the magazine itself, mostly just frustrated that we can't seem to get them to unsubscribe us for good. read more

Not only do I love this magazine, this magazine somehow loves me back. I swear, it is perfectly in tune with every nuance and contour of my social and private life here in NY. Every time it comes out, I know it will have something exciting to tell me about a new cabaret show ging n downtown, or a flea market to check out. The restaurant reviews are fantastic, too---if food was a jungle, I'd be cutting back the overgrowth with a machete trekking my way into the heart of it to find the hidden temple. I LOVE exciting food, and I love exploring new foods, and Time Out somehow consistently has set me on the right track to finding THE coolest restaurants and places to eat at. I was a little intimidated at first by the sheer volume of listings the magazine offers, but trust me, it's easy to navigate. You pick out what you like, and can easily separate stuff that's relevant for you from stuff that isn't. For example, an article on how to make my body look like a 28-year-old rockclimber's? No thanks. But a tip on a clothing swap near my apartment--awesome! Check it out, you'll be glad you did. read more

I sent in my check for a yearly subscription and never heard from them. I finally called them and discovered they were leaving my issues on my front stoop for the general public and passerbys to enjoy. After several calls to their customer service they agreed to use the postal system. What a novel idea, huh? To date, I have received every issue on the last day of its issue. Yesterday January 17 I received the January 11- 17th issue. Wonderful timing, I can now look at all the events I missed out on for the week. I now know why all these print magazines are going out of business. Inability to deliver, poor customer service etc..Funny, I also subscribe to NEW YORK MAGAZINE by mail and they never have a problem getting their weekly issues here on time. PS. I live in Hoboken directly across from Manhattan, not exactly the end of the Earth. I guess the only way to get a current issue is to be in the city on a Wednesday and cop a free one on time! read more
