Last Sunday, I had lunch with six cool friends at Caribbean Cabana. It takes over from where Soca Palace used to be. This eatery is steps away from my go-to pharmacy and is next to National Bank in a plaza that takes me seven minutes to get to by car. Caribbean Cabana specializes in Guyanese-style Chinese food. It offers 100% halal food and is fully LLBO-licensed. We had quite the feast: - Cabana wonton soup - Curry goat with roti - Cabana fried rice - Cabana combo (appetizers) - Singapore Noodles - Basha (fish - spicy) - Cabana mixed veggies - Calamari - Lo-wontons We asked for water and got a carafe that had a yellow tint. We joked that it looked like urine. Luckily, it wasn't. I asked the same nice woman for a refill on the water. The carafe only filled four glasses out of the seven. It was a busy afternoon thanks to a Toronto Blue Jays game being broadcast while we were there. We eventually got the refill and were content. The wonton soup was full of veggies and wontons in a tasty broth. We got the Cabana combo, which featured spring rolls, fried wontons, fries, and onion rings. It was perfect for snacking and sharing! We continued our fry fest with calamari that was done to perfection. It was seasoning perfectly with none of that rubbery nonsense. It was my first time having lo-wontons. They were unique and now my favourite way to enjoy wontons in a light soy-based sauce with lots of green onion. The curry goat was amazing. The goat was flavourful and tender. The roti was so yummy. I dipped it in the curry. It was also yummy to eat on its own. The singaporian noodles were delicious. I loved the veggies, shrimp, and chicken mixed in with perfectly cooked vermicelli and the best sauce. Basha was excellent. Fried fish with a spicy kick. Not crazy. Highly flavourful with flaky fish, lightly battered, but super crispy and tender. Yum! Say yes to bell peppers and onions. I devoured the Cabana mixed veggies. This place does broccoli so well. Crunchy. Yummy. We ended up doing the holy protein trinity of beef, chicken, and shrimp. The veggies balanced our proteins out nicely. If you love chicken, you must try the Cabana fried rice. You get succulent chicken with crispy skin on top of the best fried rice. So good! We had some food left over. A couple of friends got to bring them home.6) This place has lunch specials at decent prices. I need to take advantage of them. The specials start at $7.99. Such a steal! I didn't use the washroom, but a couple of my friends did. You need a key to use it. I had a great time enjoying yummy food with cool friends. I hope to do it again soon or grab a lunch special. I recently dined there with friends, some of them not too familiar with this style of food, and they all loved it! We started with a Wonton Soup that was packed with wontons and vegetables. That was followed by the Cabana Combo Platter that included lots of tasty items - Spring Rolls, Shrimp Rolls, Chicken Wontons, Shrimp Wontons, Onion Rings, and Fries. Next, we had the Basha Fish; Cabana Mixed Vegetables; and Curry Goat with Dahlpuri; the very popular Cabana Fried Rice with Fried Chicken on Top; and Singapore Noodles. It was all so good and we wanted more, so we added their Calamari, and Lo-Wontons. It was all delicious! Caribbean Cabana is a cozy spot that seems to have a lot of regular customers who were there cheering on the Blue Jays to another victory. If you're looking for a friendly spot with good food, check them out at McCowan and Denison in Markham. Don't miss their weekday lunch specials, starting at only $7.99!

All of the oxtail shredded meat, the cheese, the slaw, and the patty all perfectly come together into a very hearty meal. For its price, it is very filling and extremely tasty. The other thing we had was the Large Jerk Chicken meal. The Jerk Chicken was how I personally would want it. Not too hot, not too salty, not burnt, and spiced just right. The rice & beans proportion to the protein was just a little more than what I would prefer, but it is not a big issue. There was also a piece of bread that we had along with the meal which I enjoyed having. It was tasy and soft bread that perfectly acts to refresh the palate so we can go for another bite out of the Jerk Chicken or the Oxtail patty. What was a little letdown was that the place was a little small and not really primarily setup to accommodate a lot of indoor dining. There was no washroom or at least a place to wash hands. Service was also just alright. It was not bad, but just not among the best service standards that I know. You would need to come in with a lot of patience in waiting to order and waiting for the food to be ready to serve. Between taking orders, the person over the counter would also be occasionally be on the phone answering call inquiries.

We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, snapper with brown stew veggies and rice, stuffed oxtail patty...EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! Jerk chicken was tender, full of flavor- great spices with the perfect balance of heat that was experienced throughout the bite, not just on the skin. The Snapper was cooked to order (30 minute wait). Tender, great flavor, not too many bones. Even the fish gravy was made to order as when I asked for more they had to make it. Deliciously worth the wait. The STUFFED OXTAIL PATTY was the star of the show. When they say stuffed, they mean it! This beauty is a creative love song in your mouth that your stomach will thank you for. It's buttery, soft, flaky, flavorful, fatty in the best oxtail kinda ways, and just....YES! You didn't know you needed this in your life but your welcome. This menu item can be a meal that stands on its own as I could only get through half of it as a side. Service was good. Just one young lady at the register holding down two long lines alone. One for the order and payment, and the other for pick up. She did well navigating high demand and customer satisfaction. Tip: Get extra gravy- we got extra oxtail, jerk, and fish and used it. Ambiance is mom & pop. You can eat there, or take it to go. Most people grabbed there's to go. Had we eaten ours there we probably would've ended up doubling our order and waistline. Well... in my Arnold Terminator voice, "I'll Be Back!"

P Jay's patties are delicate soft pastry encasing melty oxtail sauce flavoured spicy beef. Warden Station Patties, who? The first time I had these patties, it was 5 minutes before closing time. I made the mistake of only ordering one, so I had to wait till the next day to pick up a dozen. You have to eat them fresh because they won't be the same the next day. The first time I tried the jerk pork it was amazing, second time it was kind of dry. The oxtail is fine, the portion is a bit on the small side but with all the rice they give you, it's still a filling dish. The rice is super extra almost-burn-your-hands hot every time so be careful. The vegetables are hit and miss. I would probably stick to the patties for P Jays. The plaza is tiny but there's always plenty of parking. P Jay's is hidden in the hallway that runs right through the middle of it. Take-out only: there is no seating here, you order your food, and you eat it somewhere else. Cash only, there is no ATM, so come prepared.

It was a let down of all aspects unfortunately - from service, to food quality, and it's worth. Upon arriving and dining here, I was surprised to see the place pretty empty. All the other times I've been here it was pretty packed. The severs were unfortunately not very friendly at all, from taking our orders, to bringing our food, down to paying for the bill. Not a smile was once seen from any of the serve staff. The food was okay with portions being smaller than what I remember it to be and prices higher than what a usual HK cafe should be as well. Our chicken instant noodle with green onion and ginger was drowning in A LOT of oil - although tasty, it was not pleasant to eat since it was so greasy. Overall, our party of 8 found the entire meal to be super expensive for the food quality and options. It was quite a hefty bill tbh. Fortunately, after I visited I did see that they posted online that they are under new management and have changes to their business. So hope they rejig their food, pricing and service.
