It takes over from where Soca Palace used to be. This eatery is steps away from my go-to pharmacy and is next to National Bank in a plaza that takes me seven minutes to get to by car. Caribbean Cabana specializes in Guyanese-style Chinese food. It offers 100% halal food and is fully LLBO-licensed. We had quite the feast: - Cabana wonton soup - Curry goat with roti - Cabana fried rice - Cabana combo (appetizers) - Singapore Noodles - Basha (fish - spicy) - Cabana mixed veggies - Calamari - Lo-wontons We asked for water and got a carafe that had a yellow tint. We joked that it looked like urine. Luckily, it wasn't. I asked the same nice woman for a refill on the water. The carafe only filled four glasses out of the seven. It was a busy afternoon thanks to a Toronto Blue Jays game being broadcast while we were there. We eventually got the refill and were content. The wonton soup was full of veggies and wontons in a tasty broth. We got the Cabana combo, which featured spring rolls, fried wontons, fries, and onion rings. It was perfect for snacking and sharing! We continued our fry fest with calamari that was done to perfection. It was seasoning perfectly with none of that rubbery nonsense. It was my first time having lo-wontons. They were unique and now my favourite way to enjoy wontons in a light soy-based sauce with lots of green onion. The curry goat was amazing. The goat was flavourful and tender. The roti was so yummy. I dipped it in the curry. It was also yummy to eat on its own. The singaporian noodles were delicious. I loved the veggies, shrimp, and chicken mixed in with perfectly cooked vermicelli and the best sauce. Basha was excellent. Fried fish with a spicy kick. Not crazy. Highly flavourful with flaky fish, lightly battered, but super crispy and tender. Yum! Say yes to bell peppers and onions. I devoured the Cabana mixed veggies. This place does broccoli so well. Crunchy. Yummy. We ended up doing the holy protein trinity of beef, chicken, and shrimp. The veggies balanced our proteins out nicely. If you love chicken, you must try the Cabana fried rice. You get succulent chicken with crispy skin on top of the best fried rice. So good! We had some food left over. It certainly had a lot to offer, with menu item numbers going above 230. Here's what I tried: #01 Chicken Pakora: A great choice on our part, 10 large pieces of breaded chicken were served with a lemon wedge and chilli mayo. They were red, which I found striking. I enjoyed the taste of mildly spicy chicken. The sauce was okay, but I mostly enjoyed the chicken without it. #22 Hot and Sour Soup with Seafood: I wasn't a big fan of this famous Chinese appetizer. It had all the right ingredients, but it was a bit too sour for my taste. #75 Manchurian Beef with Gravy: I loved this dish. The spicy beef strips were tender and juicy. The sauce was hot and savoury, and it went well with steamed rice that we ordered. #169 Chicken Ho-Fun: Another great choice, this rice-noodle stir fry dish was mild and had many tender chicken strips to fill me up. There was only one person serving, but there was no one else dining, so her checking in on us every now and then was more than good enough for us in terms of service. The table and some eating utensils were sticky, showing age. Disposable chopsticks were available upon request, which was nice. The washroom was serviceable but not clean. Despite some of the flaws I found in the restaurant, their dishes tasted good. I was surprised to see how affordable the food was. I decided on a window booth, close to the back and the coat rack, away from the noisier front end. I let her know it would be 2 and she promptly returned with glasses and water, and menus. They have a lunch special menu, with all meals under $20 (unless adding on shrimp for some selections.) They include a spring roll, and a good choice of extras (either soup, or additional ingredients for the base.) I was drawn to both the coconut green curry and the noodle bowl, but chose the noodle bowl since it was a cold day. I went with tom yum broth, and added wontons for my included extra. The soup and the spring roll arrived piping hot and tasty. The soup had a good amount of vegetables to complement all the starchy noodles and wontons. The spice level wasn't at all overwhelming, although our server took care to point out that it is a spicy broth. It took me a good while to get through the huge, packed bowl. I could taste the sugar and likely msg, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. The restrooms are a little tricky to get to and tight, with 1 of the 2 ladies' stalls out of order. Still, you could tell it was originally quite pretty, and the little touches like fancy soap and air freshener carry it. The service was impeccable. Our ever polite server made several visits to our table throughout our meal, unobtrusively refilling our glasses of water and checking whether we required anything else.
