The food was ok, nothing to write home about really though the restaurant had a nice drink list and an extensive diverse menu. I got fish and chips and mussels. Mussels were super fresh but the flavor was a bit lacking. The fish and chips, chips were good though it's hard to mess up deep fried potatoes and the fish was good but again, lacks character. It was a thin batter and the bottom side's crispy fried nature didn't really survive the trip from the kitchen to serving on the table. By the end of the meal, the top side also wasn't super crispy anymore. I would have liked more tartar sauce though I'm sure if I had asked, I would have been given more. By seems like that should have been obvious to add more. Overall, I think I'd probably come back if I were in the area. Definitely a good place to relax and grab a snack, but I also don't expect fine dining in a small city and to be clear, I have no other frame of reference from this town - just from the general area.

Surprisingly good, considering the relatively remote location. Ate at this place and their across-the-street rival the the Lemon Tree on successive nights. While both are rivals (I suppose), I give both 5 stars. Take your pick. Both are great. I wish there were restaurants like these where I live in the States. Sigh. :)

I very rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share this experience because it left me…read morefeeling genuinely upset and humiliated. My daughter and I travelled a long distance after seeing your advertisements stating that small pets are welcome in the bar area. We brought our small pedigree miniature Bichon, who I was carrying in my arms when we arrived. There was an unreserved table for two available inside, but we were told we had to sit outside. When I politely asked why we couldn't sit at the empty table, the manager snapped at us in front of other customers and said, "If you want to sit there, you need to order now," while handing us the menu. There were a number of people behind us waiting and others in the bar listening, which made the whole situation very embarrassing. As I started to read the menu, the manager then changed her mind and told us we could only order soup or chowder. We were no longer allowed to order anything else. I simply couldn't understand why we were being treated differently when there was an available table and your venue advertises that small pets are welcome in the bar. What upset me most wasn't just that we couldn't have a meal--it was the way we were made to feel. We had travelled a considerable distance in good faith, expecting a warm welcome, only to leave feeling embarrassed, singled out and unwelcome. As a dog owner, I find it deeply disappointing that genuinely pet-friendly hospitality is still so difficult to find in Ireland. Our dogs are part of our families. We don't expect special treatment--just honesty in advertising and to be treated with the same courtesy and respect as any other customer. We left without eating, feeling hurt and ashamed. I hope this review encourages a more compassionate approach towards customers who travel with well-behaved pets.

This is by far one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Which is a shame because it…read moresits above Rossnowlagh Beach and has a gorgeous view. We had a 5:00 reservation because that was all they had, and we were directed to a dark corner in the bar by the rude hostess (we later learned she owns the place) even though there were three empty tables--two of them still dirty--right by the window. She reluctantly agreed to seat us at one--one of the dirty ones--with this warning: "You will leave at 6. You need to understand that." (PS 6 came and went and no one asked to leave) We never had the same server; various very young servers would drop off things--like the bottle of wine we ordered, already opened, no tasting. They never asked how our dinners were, which was too bad because I was given a butter knife to cut my overdone steak. A steak knife might have actually allowed me to cut through it and eat the thing. They wouldn't take it off the bill because apparently the chef could cut it--do you think he used a butter knife? On our way out we passed a tween happily cutting away on her steak with an actual knife. It's the only restaurant in town and I still wouldn't go back.
