Apparently, people in Lexington, KY are really on top of their eye health. It is next to impossible to get an appointment unless one takes time off from work. I have never seen a place so busy. I went through the whole exam process and I was helped every step of the way. The entire process had taken like 49 minutes! They were both very customer focused, always making sure they gave me their full, undivided attention and I mean none of that, looking at the computer and answering. Full on eye contact. That is superb customer service. But I have to write that I will miss Dr. Santos; however, I am sure she would be so pleased at how these individuals helped me today.

Fast forward to now..... HORRIBLE. Let me explain as this is the very first negative review I have EVER given. I made an appointment for my two daughters and I on a Friday. I take off work, the girls rearrange their schedules, and we go to the office at our designated time, which was confirmed with a text. There is no one there. We sit in the car for 45 minutes desperately trying to get in touch with someone, no answers. I should probably mention there were 2 other people in the parking lot doing the exact same thing. I finally get some call center a million miles away and they say that "late last night" my appointment had been cancelled, but she showed no attempt at notifying me (at least she was honest and apologetic.) Basically, I completely wasted an entire morning and I was asked to make another appointment for the next week for the girls and one the following week for myself. When the girls arrive the next Friday, they are treated poorly. The front desk staff is courteous and kind, but the doctor literally yelled and berated them during their time being examined. They left the office upset, crying, and begging me never to send them to that place again. These are tough older teenage girls who have a tough mom. I can't imagine how awful he had to be to illicit this kind of response from not one, but BOTH. Not only that, but the office that I had once trusted, completely took advantage of their naivety, and up-sold them for a crap ton of things they did not need. I have excellent eye insurance and have been getting regular exams for the three of us for a long time, I know the typicals. It was triple what I normally get charged. I guess part of this is my fault for not being able to accompany them, but never did I expect for them to take advantage of long time loyal patients. The doctor even yelled at my eldest daughter for not wanting her eyes dilated because she had to DRIVE, makes sense right? Gotta get that extra $15 dollars regardless of her safety, doc? Appalling. Seriously, appalling. So today is supposed to be my appointment. I figured I'd keep it not only because I desperately need a new glasses rx, but also because I wanted to see how I was treated and scope out any problems that maybe the girls weren't aware of that could somehow explain the stressful and negative nature I had been advised of just the week before (I'm in healthcare.) I wake up this morning to a message on my phone that my appointment has been cancelled.... AGAIN. At least this time I was notified. :( I know this was lengthy, but I truly hope my advice is taken and NO ONE subject themselves to this office. Between the blatant disregard for other people's time and schedules, the overpriced up services, and the unkind treatment, I will honestly never go back. They've lost a very loyal and expensive customer forever.

No worries though, the front desk staff googled the closest pharmacy to my vacation spot and sent the prescription there. And, gave me her cell number in case I had any problems getting it! I have the utmost confidence that Dr. Richardson knows my vision history and is treating my specific issues. My eyes never feel like they have been abused when I leave his office. He's careful, considerate, knowledgeable and never rushes. I highly recommend them!

On the eyeglass side of the store, I was greeted by James and Carribean who offered their expert opinions on what style looked best for my face shape. They too, were super pleasant and knew their stuff! My new glasses were ready in two days. I was allowed to bring my frames, and they only charged me for the lenses and nothing more. They hit a home run at the first fitting. There's a reason that they have been established in the same office space all of these years. Went to pick up my contacts - 2 boxes for a sixth month supply - and the total was $170 and I owed $50 (after insurance paid $120). That math is off since it should be $65/box and I should be paying $10 after insurance. Was told, "oh I thought you wanted the price match on the next six months supply." Say what?!? Huh?!? Why would I want a match later?! You can't do a price match now? Was told that the price quote was before they ran insurance (even though they had that the entire time). Why would the price match be dependent on $120 insurance copay? You either match it or you don't. I was told I didn't understand. Umm, I've been ordering contacts for 15 years (not to mention I've had the same eye insurance since 2008), I know how it works. Now, because they already charged my insurance, I have to wait (up to two weeks) for a reversal...without the ability to order new contacts from anywhere else. Ridiculous. Classic bait and switch with prices and I know it's only $40 but it's the principle. And I love that they tried to tell me 1800contacts.com didn't take my insurance. Yes they do...just got off the phone with them and as soon as you put through my insurance reversal, they will charge me correctly and I'll owe $10 with free shipping. Which is what I would have done had you not claimed you price matched! I wish I could charge YOU for time wasted. Again, love Dr. Bowers but I can't stand when people don't honor prices and try to blame me for their incompetence. I cannot in good faith recommend this place.

I came to BlueGrass Eye Care Center after over 30 years of great treatment at another practice. I was hoping to get some creative thinking for problems I'd been having with contact lenses. I saw two different doctors in the practice at BlueGrass, but the prescriptions they gave me weren't as clear as I had hoped for. Shawn Combs patiently listened to my concerns, reviewed my charts and gave me several different trial pair of contacts to try. She clearly marked them so I could remember what I was trying, explained how each might work differently from the next, and urged me to come back (4 times!) until we got the prescription right. I'm very grateful to Ms. Combs. I can now see things I haven't been able to see clearly for years. And the reason for that success is Ms. Combs' patience and willingness to try and try again, using her outstanding knowledge of contact lens products. She could have sent me back to the doctors for yet another exam and another co-pay, but instead, she worked with me directly -- and kept a great attitude the entire time!
