As a comedian, it's important to have a smattering of pictures to be used for posters, online ads, dartboards, etc. But as a non-photogenic person, I have been plagued since my first yearbook photo with the inability to get a decent picture, even when professional photographers and high-end equipment were involved. I had the good fortune of meeting Ting at a Yelp event. I noticed her taking pictures with a nice Canon dSLR, so I figured I'd ask if she takes headshots and might be able to help me out. She told me to look at her stuff on flickr and get in touch with her. I took a look a few days later, and was blown away by both her photos and her creative Photoshop work. I got in touch, and it was on. Ting was very accommodating in that she asked me for as much input as I could give in order to get what I wanted out of our shoot, but not to the point of making me feel like I had to provide input even if I didn't have the slightest clue of what I was talking about. We went to a few spots I had picked in my neighborhood, and then we walked around and Ting found a few others. As you can tell from the 5-star review, the shots came out well. It had to do with several factors - Ting's skillful use of her EOS 5D, our finding the right spots to shoot, and shooting at the right time of day. Perhaps most importantly, Ting offered very helpful input during the shots to help me pose. Remember what I said about not being photogenic? It's always due to weird facial expressions or positioning of my body. I know there are plenty of shots that weren't usable because of this; but Ting was patient and helped me get it right. So now, thanks to Ting, I have some headshots that I can send to bookers, some other fun shots for my website, and a really cool multilayer image that Ting put together from several of the pictures we took. Her rates are reasonable and I am looking forward to working with her more in the future. Let's get one thing straight, photography is 'art'. No amount of user-friendly and accessible post processing gimmicks can make up for poor photography skills. As a creative person, one of the hardest things about hiring other professionals to fulfil your vision is that not many, if any, can live up to your expectations. This is why Ting Photography and Design was a no-brainer for us. I've seen her work evolve over time, from spectacular, to straight-up awe-inspiring, so having her as our wedding photographer felt more like us being the lucky ones to have been able to have her services, than the other way around :-) There are a lot of factors involved in shooting, beyond just a fancy camera and accessories. From composition, lighting and color grading, to understanding when to/not to overuse post processing effects; these are a few of the tenets of a creative/professional photographer, and Ting excels at all of these. For our wedding, my wife and I wanted both the ceremony and the receptions to feel organic and not staged. The last things we wanted was a coordinator and photographer running around freaking out trying to corral guest for that perfect shot (when we're just trying to enjoy one another's company before we all fly back to our respective corners of the country). I'm sure some prefer their photographer being more commanding, but for an outdoor wedding we wanted the photos to compliment both the setting and the vibe of the wedding - basically, she made sure to get the obligatory wedding party photos out of the way, and then spent the rest of the time capturing the real feel of the party, along with some of the coolest moments from the wedding that the bride and groom are just not able to experience (seeing as you're running around getting' married and all). Now, just because our wedding was a casual outdoor affair, it doesn't mean that Ting isn't capable of working a more traditional one. On the contrary, i've seen her work (which led me to hire her) on some large-scale wedding that required a lot more pre-planning and day-of preparations, and she straight-up crushed it! From your engagement shoot, to the final wedding photo, you and your partner will have a branded wedding, and a set of photos that not only fill a virtual photo album, but will also tell the story of your journey together. Take it form me, i'm a picky dude who questions everyone's artistic abilities (which is why i've never pulled the trigger on a tattoo), but man, this girl is gifted. Whether you go with Ting Photography and Design, or not, make sure that your photographer is - like Ting - an artist first, and a photographer a close second. You will get much richer results, and more compelling work than you will from a 'shoot-by-numbers' photographer whose work is a collection of photos with nothing but perfectly symmetrical composition (bleh). read more

Ting is an amazing photographer! She did such an incredible job at our wedding! She also did a wonderful job during our engagement session. She not only captured candid, intimate shots but she also took beautiful, creative posed pictures of us at both events. She was extremely friendly, patient and professional throughout the whole process. I was referred to her by a former co-worker after seeing his beautiful wedding pictures. I called her, set up a couple of meetings, and the rest was history! She was always punctual at our meetings, answered all of our concerns, and was never pushy about our decision. She was very soft-spoken, super nice and she made us feel extremely comfortable. I tend to get shy around cameras, but Ting made me feel completely at ease during all the sessions. The pictures took a little longer to arrive than we expected. Ting's talent is displayed in her artistry of editing. She prides herself in the 'perfect picture'. I didn't mind, as long as the pictures came out great. It was also because we had to do a second wedding session. During our actual wedding, we were sort of 'rushed' (not by Ting, but by everyone else) since we both had such big families. We only had a short window to take pics after the ceremony and before the reception. Ting tried her very best to stick with a list that i created for our posed pics with our families and friends. It was just impossible to take pics with everyone and also have our own private session in a short time frame. I was also pretty emotional that day. Thank goodness she had a second photographer to capture different angles of the wedding. However, after receiving our pictures, we felt like there weren't enough pictures of the bride and groom. Ting went above and beyond and offered a second session at no cost, just to make me happy and satisfied. She didn't have to do that, but she was very empathetic towards the entire situation and offered the best solution which had an amazing outcome! The pictures from the second session were absolutely breathtaking! She made my wedding all the more special. I am truly grateful to have worked with Ting. She will go very far in her career because of the type of person that she is: understanding, professional and super talented! I recommend Ting to anyone looking to get married in the near future. It was money well-spent which in turn, we received exceptional service with lots of great memories! One tip that I can give to any future bride and groom is to take advantage of a 'first look' session. Every bride wants to surprise her groom when she walks down the aisle. However, if you want lots of good pics with just the two of you and not be rushed, have an hour session BEFORE the ceremony. Your photographer can take pictures of his reaction when he first sees you in your bridal gown (hence, first look). You can also take tons of candid and posed pics without any interruption from obnoxious family members, worried coordinators, impatient caterers, etc,. It's just you and your life-long partner, and your photographer, capturing every smile, every emotion. Ting is amazing. If you are looking through Yelp for thoughts on a wedding photographer GO NO FURTHER IN YOUR SEARCH. Book this photographer if she is available. I cannot suggest her highly enough. First, she was super easy to talk to about what my fiance and I wanted. Our initial emails were informative and clear, and, as cheesy as it sounds, I could almost feel the warmth coming through her writing. She actually cares! Working with Ting was a dream. Luckily, I got to book her second shooter, Ste Thos, which meant that one of them could shoot me and my bridesmaids/bridesman in one area and Ste Thos was with my future wife in another area. It couldn't have been better. For the group shots, I thought we had an insurmountable amount of requests for Ting but she went through them easily and quickly like a champ. Kudos! Double kudos, even. With two brides, there was twice as many of the getting-ready shots that we requested, and that was no problem (a great deal of thanks again to her second shooter, Ste Thos). During the ceremony they got all the shots that parents wanted captured (brides walking down the isle, all attendants, parents, reading of the vows, etc..) and then managed to get a ton of great non-posed and non-traditional shots. After the ceremony we mostly wanted Ting to work the room and let her eye for atmosphere and non-posed shots lead her, and we were not disappointed! Ting was not only a pleasure to work with prior to the wedding (going over the logistics and details) but also throughout the wedding day. My husband and I got along with her so well. We really appreciated her flexibility with us on our engagement shoot, and she was cool with having our videographer tag along to get some footage. We hired Ting on very short-notice to do some engagement photos for us in Joaquin Miller park on the day that I had my hair and makeup trial. She was great to work with. It was our first time ever taking portraits together, and she was good at directing us and helping us to use the little props we had brought with us. We got tired before she did! We were able to use the photos for our guestbook. Because she is up and coming, her pricing is really affordable. She was really quick with editing the photos and getting them back to us. We had already booked our wedding photographer, but she has a great eye and I think she would have done a fabulous job for our wedding as well. read more

Two words that I would use to describe Ting Photography are efficient & quality. We hired Ting do product shots for our initial clothing collection. She picked up the garments and returned them in the exact same condition. The product shots are great! Ting is also a wonderful problem solver. We forgot to give her one of our shirts for the shoot, that didn't effect her work one bit. She used her expert technical photoshop ability to edit one of the pictures on one of the existing shirts and implement the artwork for the missing design. You can't tell one bit. Planning our wedding was the most stressful months of our relationship. When it was over, we swore we'd NEVER plan something that big again...until we saw our wedding photos by Ting.
