When I walked by this time, it was the pile of miscellaneous welded metal sculptures on the metal cart outside that caught my eye initially. And then I saw Hello Kitty on the shelf. The store is artist owner operated. Friendly gentleman. Wide selection of sculptures. Each one is unique. Great price for such unique, hand crafted pieces of art. Titanic Boutique is a great shop located on the Boardwalk in Venice. This shop has many items for sale, but I believe the most interesting are that they have a really great collection of metal art. These are great metal sculptures created to invoke various figurines and generalized artistic elements. Some of these metal sculptures are based on things like, Star Wars, while others are just simply very unique conglomerations of metal imaging. They're really great! Does anyone remember several years back when they had the blond, hunky, shirtless male dancer/model striking poses on their platform out in front, on the boardwalk, on weekends? That's where I lived for about 3 months when I first landed in LA, never having set foot in this city before. Venice Beach was my first introduction to this wacky town. It was glorious! Best summer of my life. So I passed Titanic every day as I embarked on my morning jaunt down the boardwalk. I loved to see the vendors setting up, and I knew most all of them. What a way to start the days. Titanic used to sell women's swimsuits, don't know if they still do. I didn't go inside last week when I was there. But the cool hat selection is alive and well and going strong. There is much to be said for tradition. When I was a kid, my mother always wore some kind of goofy hat, all the time. She still does, even inside the house. I picked that up from her. I've got a series of hat racks in my front hallway, displaying everything from my winter visor made of faux fur (of course I bought that on Venice Beach, at Anonymous) to my cowboy hats, my sunhats, my collection of caps........ Past the speaker blaring some House/Trance, is a world of hip-hop, ultra cool, hipster, hats. My initial thought was , what could i possibly want in this teenage hat paradise, but I look around, and discover the upstairs fedora/porkpie area. Some ten-gallon hats mixed in with fashion cowboy hats so I venture back downstairs where I encounter a newsboy meets English driving hat. I try it on. I think its cool but not great. The owner of the store takes it off my head, tweaks it and sets it back down tweaking it a bit on my head... PERFECTION! I was amazed. I bought it. I've been a Titanic patron for a few years. They always have a hat in my size that fits my head, tastes, and budget. If your head is too small or too large to fit in the hats you find in every other boutique, head to Titanic. I'm the latter. When I find a hat, the guys there always help me out with the proper fit and way to wear it. If it's just a tad small, they have the means to stretch it. When you walk in, you might be overwhelmed at the selection. They have a lot of styles out on display and even more spilling out from the racks on the walls. Once you've grabbed a few hats to try on in front of the mirror, one of the salesmen usually puts a hat they chose on your head. They're pretty good at selling you that hat. I usually check the tag first, and it's usually out of my price range, but I say that I like the color or the fit or the style or whatever, and they work with me to find the right one. There's a great selection for men, women, and children. They carry more Goorin than Goorin on Melrose does. They have high quality fedora and hand-woven types. I don't even really know what they're called, but they look slick. They also carry inexpensive trendy hats that only really go with that one outfit in your closet. When that outfit needs a hat, come here, too. The best way to find them is to park around Rose and Pacific. Head straight for the ocean, turn left on the boardwalk. Titanic. Can't miss it. Techno trance blasts constantly and there are awesome metal statues out front. read more

Lots of cool hats ranging from modest to stuff I would never wear (flowery skulls for example). If your looking for your standard issue sports team hats this place isn't for you. The selection is more eclectic. The guy who owns the store seems to really like what he does and I'm sure chooses what sells there. Its a rarity to see someone take pride in their work. The store is loud with trance and techno music playing while someone is usually outside shaking a can of beans or something to the beat. Its not a very big place but it is chock-full of hats and knowledgeable staff to get you fitted. I bought 2 hats even though I found (they found) 7. They cut me a deal after I stood there awhile and pouted like a little girl - which also works if you are man, sans the pouting. One of the best shopping experiences I have every had. I saw some metal sculptures made from scrap parts and was drawn into the shop. I talked to Kad and Robert who were very friendly and extremely helpful in informing me about their products. I wound up buying a two AT-AT Star Wars sculptures, and I will return to buy a few more. I just read one review posted by Holden J claiming that the customer service was bad because these guys refused to repair a sculpture when its arm broke off. I inspected many of these sculptures and they are extremely well made. It is not their problem if UPS breaks something in the package, and come on, once you buy a piece of art and walk out with it you are responcible for it, not the shop. This place also has a great selection of cool hats, all well-made and the quality is spot on. A lot of celebs go there to buy hats, so there ya have it. This store has a cool vibe, and awesome customer service with fair prices so I will be returning for sure! read more

I've got a freakish head. (Don't let that scare you ladies...) My head's big, my face structure is young and charming, and I've got a double chin. 100% of the time, hats look horrible on me. I was walking through venice blvd with AY and decided to walk into this spot to see if they have a hat that would look good on me. Carl, a self-proclaimed stylist, immediately jumped on something. DUUUUUUUUDEEEEE is sick with it when it comes to putting on the right look. He put on a few hats; two that really just hit the nail on the head. He knows his stuff and was kind enough to educate me. I was introduced to Borsalino (I haven't a clue what a good hat is, but I'm definitely getting one of these next), Baileys of Hollywood, and even dropped in a Stetson. Customer service here is fantastic, and that alone would award 'em with 4 stars. So what got 'em to 5? Their prices. The sticker on it is really just a starting point. Carl hooked it up. I picked up a really nice Bailey's of Hollywood - Adobe colored hat for around 30% off after tax. After browsing around online, I think I got a great deal on this hat. I got a hat I love at a price that's shockingly good. All I can say is that the customer service, the price, and the hats give me a superb impression of Titanic and Carl. I've already told my friends about this spot and look forward to going back for that Borsalino. Don't waste your time shopping at other places or online! I don't give many places a 5 star rating but Titanic was AWESOME. My husband and I are hat addicts, and this place definitely fuels the fire. Hands down, best hat shop I've ever visited! The staff is super helpful, and even after get a good picture of the hats you like and your style, they'll cruise the store with you and separately for those perfect hats you're looking for. Although they pushed me to go outside my comfort zone with hats I wouldn't normally try, I still stayed within the "Tana safe zone", but appreciated their efforts. I will definitely be craving my next visit. Massive selection, great customer service. A winning combo in my eyes. Pricing is a bit high, especially if you're a Goorin Bros. fan ($16 margin over MSRP), but heck, I'll pay that just for the selection. I just might not be buying more than one hat. read more

I went to Venice for the first time yesterday. We took a bike ride and bar hop Adventure from Santa Monica to Marina Del Rey and one of our stops was Venice! I forgot to bring a baseball cap. I've been here several times before and once again I went home happy. My mother and sister were in town visiting and we stopped by to check out some hats! Carlo AKA "The Hat Doctor" offered his helpful advice and entertainment. We were there for about 45 minutes trying on hats as fast as Carlo would bring them. I ended up getting 2 hats, likewise my sister also bought 2. Couldn't find one for Moms but she was having fun trying them on. I also bought small Spartan that was welded out of nuts bolts and scrap metal. If you haven't seen the massive Predator welded statue outside you're missing out! After spending 20 years in California I went back to my native Detroit thinking I'd never return. But I was wrong, in Dec., 2011 I was flown back to shoot a TV segment and got to visit old friends and favorite places. Santa Monica was my first home back in 1971 so of course I was in love with Venice. I went down to visit some friends whose offices (lucky dogs) were overlooking Venice Beach when I ran across Titanic, Hat Store Extraordinaire! I told the dude behind the counter that I wanted to replace my old Indian Jones/Hippie style hat that I'd lost some years ago and off we went on a fantastic voyage through the doggonest hat store I've ever seen. No luck on the first floor so up the stairs we went where it seemed that hats went to mate, to beget even more hats. The sales guy, Carl I believe his name was, was all business (with some fun banter) and he soon led me to a hat that, upon first glance in the mirror, was exactly what I was looking for - even though I didn't know it. The hat I originally had in mind would've looked stupid on a 63 year old but this one, a greenish/brown all weather (from Detroit, remember?) Stetson gave me the flavor I wanted but pulled back a bit from the rakish old Indy hat that I could get away with when 25 years younger. It was perfect! I got a few bucks off but was quite happy to pay $68 bucks for a cool Stetson. I got nothing but compliments and comments, like "that hat is definitely YOU!" When I flew back home and my Wife saw it I could tell by the look in her eyes that she'd soon be confiscating it (she's a mad hatter) to reshape and wear with a coat she has with similar coloring. I mean it's that cool that a man or woman would love wearing it. She was glad I brought it back home instead of a bunch of stupid LA T-Shirts. I was glad I bought it too and remember fondly the fine customer service and truly impressive hat shop, right there in my beloved Venice. Want a hat? Walking into this place it is easy to feel intimidated. There are literally thousands of hats everywhere and then more again on the second level. I wanted to buy a fedora style hat and thought I would stroll in try on one or two and make my choice....no chance. While my jaw was still on the floor and my eyes not sure where to start the staff came and rescued me. I needed my own montage to describe what happened next. The staff pulled out hat after hat and fitted and styled them one after another. It was like a whirlwind and these hat gurus knew it all. One guy looked me in the eye and said in a soft stern voice.
