Damn! That's some tasty food!…read more Bored of the usual rotation of restaurants, I thought I'd head into Spring Valley and give this place a try. They serve Jamaican food / Caribbean. Website? Nope. A menu? Not really. So I just drove there, went inside and nobody was around. Be patient - it's very chill here. Eventually, the chef/owner, I'm assuming, pops his head out and was such a delight! Very friendly, offered tastings of everything and explained what he was serving that day. The menu, you see, is just written on a dry erase board and fresh food is cooked daily. If he runs out, that's it. Today's menu started with stewed chicken, BBQ chicken, oxtail, curry goat, curry chicken, jerk pork, jerk chicken, Mac and cheese, callaloo, ackee and cow foot soup. There are about 10 or so tables inside and even a bar. Most people here seem to get takeout. On the tables were bottles of Jamaican scotch bonnet pepper sauce for extra kick. I tasted a couple things before deciding on the oxtail, the jerk pork and the curry chicken. The jerk here is the real deal! The aroma, spices, juiciness and flavor of charcoal grilling. OMG. So good! They sell food in small, medium and large containers. I opted for entrees that come with rice and beans, plus sauteed cabbage. Everything was delicious, but that jerk was outstanding. Prices seemed fair for the portions and freshness of the food. There are no written prices, but just ask and he'll happily convey them to you. Tropical Delicacy is in a very small strip mall, but I'd say there's adequate parking. Definitely give this one a try. He's open for lunch too and often sells out of things already after lunch is over.

I would keep recommending this restaurant over almost all Caribbean restaurants. Very friendly staff always. The ambiance is well chilling. Also very cool and comfy seating area.

One thing I always look for when eating at a restaurant that specializes in food from a specific…read morecountry is whether people from that culture are dining there too. At a Thai spot, I expect to see Thai people. At a Mexican spot, I expect to see Mexicans. You get the picture. So at this Haitian restaurant, there are always Haitians enjoying the food -- which tells you everything you need to know. If you're looking for an upscale yet still authentic Haitian restaurant, this is it. No matter what you order, they always start you off with a soup that's hot, rich, and flavorful. I usually begin with the Haitian caviar and smoked fish empanadas, then move on to either the Saveur Creole goat or the red snapper -- always with extra gravy, because I can't resist pouring it over their black rice (don't judge me). It's BYOB, so bring your drink of choice or grab something from the shop right next door. Another thing I love is that the owner, Robert, is usually there. He'll stop by your table, talk with you, and make the meal feel like a real experience. And if you admire the artwork on the walls -- he painted all of it himself. If you go, tell him I sent you... maybe then he'll finally sell me one.

Our service was a tad slow as there was only one gentleman working that night. We order a bunch of different foods. I had the goat and black rice. The goat was a tad tough but the rice was really good. The soup that accompanied the meak was delicious. Note: the items are priced separately. Good experience overall
