I have found that place! I don't have much hair, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to look good. I've been to several places throughout Austin; some places had me in and out of their chair in what seemed like seconds. Other places just gave me the impression I was in the wrong place and others were just "ok". I came across the "Nines" reviews and figured, I'll give another place a try. And one of the hardest things is who to pick to cut your hair. I randomly picked Amy but clearly that was a great choice. I'm sure everyone working here does amazing work, but I was fortunate to choose Amy. She is very friendly and was ready the minute I walked in the door. Very accommodating, she offered me water, soda, beer... I just had the water but I think next time I'll enjoy a drink! Before I moved to Austin, I had been going to the same person for years so it was very easy. All I had to do was make an appointment and she knew exactly what to do. I'm one of those who prefer the person cutting to give me suggestions on what they think would look good and Amy was more than happy to offer suggestions. I wanted to cover up a little gray and it had been months since my last haircut and it was looking pretty shaggy so I needed a complete "overhaul". Amy seemed to understand what I was looking for and made some recommendations which I went for. The haircut was enjoyable; I've had other people who are sometimes a bit careless but Amy is very gentle and thorough. When it came to the coloring... again, she took the lead. I had complete trust in her and she used a color she felt would look best and it was perfect! And at the end, she did the neck shave which is so underrated. It took awhile but I have found a great place to get my hair taken care of and hopefully I can keep going to Amy.

I have now gone to Sports clips for the last 2 years and what started off great has turned into inconsistency. I told the stylist on Saturday what I was looking for and I'm not sure she understood. When she told me she was finished, I asked her to fix one small area. I'm still not sure she understood what I was saying. After that she asked again and I told her I would fix the other areas when I got home. She smiled and said OK. I have spent my last money with Sports clips and will now be looking for another place in the area for a hair cut.

Destiny is always super upbeat, a great conversationalist and (albeit 4-6 weeks between visits) always remembers what we talked about last time and what was/is going on in my life. Not to mention she is an incredibly talented hair stylist, I would constantly get compliments on my hair after I started going to her! As time went on Floyds kept falling apart. The front desk girls were rude and unwelcoming, when you would come in they make customers feel like we are inconveniencing them.. sorry to make you do your job. But because my experience with Destiny was so good, I did my best to overlook the failing infrastructure of Floyds. A few months ago Destiny told me she had opened her own place within a few hundred feet of Floyds, I was psyched. The Gents ATX experience feels like a ride in a luxury Mercedes compared to the 1994 Ford Taurus that is Floyds 99. Destiny and (also former Floyds standout) Kelsey have created a great atmosphere and offer FREE beer/beverages/snacks. I've been in 3 times and they always have something cool playing on the tv or stereo. Their online booking takes a minute and provides me with a text reminder the day of (and email reminder the day before). I can't speak highly enough about my experience at Gents ATX.

I was already 5 minutes behind and estimated I'd arrive in 7-10 minutes--possibly 2-3 minutes past their "grace period." The response? "If you're over 10 minutes late, we have to reschedule." I explained I was only in town for the week and couldn't reschedule. Their solution? Charge me a cancellation fee anyway. My dentist is more flexible. My doctor is more flexible. Even my veterinarian is more understanding than this. Life happens. Emergencies happen. A rigid 10-minute policy with zero consideration for circumstances--especially when a customer calls ahead--is poor business practice. I understand policies exist for a reason, but good businesses know when to apply common sense. This wasn't it. I won't be back, and I can't recommend them to anyone who values customer service over inflexible rules.
