I have found that place! I don't have much hair, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to look good. I've been to several places throughout Austin; some places had me in and out of their chair in what seemed like seconds. Other places just gave me the impression I was in the wrong place and others were just "ok". I came across the "Nines" reviews and figured, I'll give another place a try. And one of the hardest things is who to pick to cut your hair. I randomly picked Amy but clearly that was a great choice. I'm sure everyone working here does amazing work, but I was fortunate to choose Amy. She is very friendly and was ready the minute I walked in the door. Very accommodating, she offered me water, soda, beer... I just had the water but I think next time I'll enjoy a drink! Before I moved to Austin, I had been going to the same person for years so it was very easy. All I had to do was make an appointment and she knew exactly what to do. I'm one of those who prefer the person cutting to give me suggestions on what they think would look good and Amy was more than happy to offer suggestions. I wanted to cover up a little gray and it had been months since my last haircut and it was looking pretty shaggy so I needed a complete "overhaul". Amy seemed to understand what I was looking for and made some recommendations which I went for. The haircut was enjoyable; I've had other people who are sometimes a bit careless but Amy is very gentle and thorough. When it came to the coloring... again, she took the lead. I had complete trust in her and she used a color she felt would look best and it was perfect! And at the end, she did the neck shave which is so underrated. It took awhile but I have found a great place to get my hair taken care of and hopefully I can keep going to Amy.

So, I held my breath and scheduled an appointment. I'm 72, have naturally-colored, grey hair, and wanted it layered. It's difficult to find a stylist who can do a decent layered cut. But, Xavier hit the mark. He is a scissors, brush, and dryer wizard. We spoke until he was sure he knew exactly the results I wanted. He definitely delivered. No more bad hair days for me!!! In the morning, I simply fluff up my hair then run my fingers through it to make my style spring back to life. Within 10 minutes it's dried and styled....no brush needed. I simply sweep the dryer over my hair with the concentrator nozzle in the direction I want it to fall. No product is needed to keep it in place. My visit with Xavier was extremely enjoyable because he's such a vibrant, engaging person. We chatted away the entire time I was sitting in his chair. It was so relaxing to be in a private room where I wasn't forced to listen to multiple conversations and dryers blasting. Xavier even has the courtesy to silence the ringer on his phone. Although it would have been easy to simply continue with my routine of gray coverage on darker hair, he suggested the alternative of gray blending with highlights. Not only did this solve my allergic reaction problem (darker dyes are more likely to cause skin reactions), it broke the discouraging cycle of gray coverage with dark hair! We all know what I'm talking about... seeing that "ring of gray" show up only weeks after covering them. The resulting color was not only more flattering but something that won't have me running for root touchups only weeks later. Did I mention I also got a fantastic haircut?! She also lied and said she purchased hair for me when she had not even spoken to me once. I canceled two days after I booked and she said that I held her calendar up. Her calendar was free for the entire day a week after I looked. No surprise!
