I cannot write enough to express how much I absolutely recommend this vet! My puppy, Hurra, is so high maintenance and gets so stressed out when going to the vet, but each staff member we have had contact with has been kind and has never made me feel bad about my little handful :) I hope that I don't have to visit too often, but I know that I am in good hands when I come to TLC. read more

I hate writing reviews but when it comes to a family member being killed .. you have too! Let me just start by saying Dr. Monica is full of lies and has the worst vet techs in the business! 5 years ago I brought my dog Rocky because she was having urinary track issues. Turned out to be a bladder stone and with proper medication would be able to pass on her own.. that was not the case and after numerous meds they prescribed Rocky nothing worked, so they recommended emergency surgery that was postponed because of their scheduling issues. When Rocky finally got scheduled I was told I would be seen by Dr. Monica prior to surgery but she was no where to be seen except a rude vet tech that just took my dog out of my hands and rushed away with no goodbye or anything. Did not think much of it until I got the phone call hours later saying Rocky had passed as they were closing her back up due to her heart stop beating. Remember this dog was pumped up on god knows what medication they had giving me for weeks months prior and then put her under while she is still on numerous meds that I know were causing her pain and discomfort! My point is they know they messed up and don't care because all you are to them is a number and money! This place will forever scar me even driving by it or just thinking of it, knowing they put other animals at risk everyday! Do yourself a favor and stay away from Dr. Monica and her staff! read more

I am updating my review from 4 stars to 5, due to the feedback I got from the stuff. Dr Sue reached out and I find it very professional. The issue never was their service. It was a mistake to give 4 stars at the first place, but I was blindsided by that other non doctor related issue. Great place. But I hope I won't be coming till our next check up. I have been going to TLC for 2 and a half years. I am a bunny owner.. Dr Sue takes care of her, and I think she has been good with my bunny. Always emails back which I appreciate very much, even in the late hours. My most recent visit was unplanned, as my bunny had some issues, and i emailed Dr Sue. She told me to bring her in the next day. So I dropped her off in the morning, i got to work at 10am..2hours later.. hospital works till 6pm.. I work till 5pm, my work is 12miles away fron the hospital. So I managed to get off work at 5pm sharp, pick up my fiancee, and we were heading that way. You know traffic in Chicago..so..there was some jam few miles from the hospital, and we gave them a call, asking if its not a problem to get there at 6.05, are we going tonbe able to pick up our girl...my fiancee was really polite, explaining traffic and everything..and on the other line was someone who lacks customer service experience. She was completely rude and arrogant. Telling us this - No. Hospital closes at 6pm. No one will be here after 6pm. My fiance was totally confused by her reaction. Like they seriously cant stay 5min longer..I mean what the heck?! We ended up getting there few minutes before 6pm..but we just wanted to give someone heads up if we would be late..but apparently they don't really care. I would give 2 stars for that person...but since Dr Sue has been good to us, I ended up with 4 stars. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Sue for my pets. I have 3 dogs and birds. I went to see Dr Sue when my cocker spaniel was hurt and after thousand dollars at Banfield, they were not able to determine his issue. I went to Dr. Sue and she was able to tell me what was wrong with my Buddy in minutes. He was my first dog and I have been going to her ever since. 17yrs later my dog passed away and now she sees my huskies and mix dogs. My 1 yrs old husky got a fever after a week of getting him I took him to the ER and they did not know why and wanted to keep him. I emailed Dr. Sue and she guided me on taking care of him at home. She reviewed his records and put him on supplements and he is doing great thanks to Dr Sue. Dr Sue has been a great vet and she cares for your pets. Dr. Sue has helped me with a few emergencies with my dogs over the years and I have recommended her to family members and they all say the same DR. Sue is awesome she is straight forward with you. I have never had any issues with staff members or tech vets. My insecure dog Remi has issues with strangers and the staff was so understanding that at the end she was giving them kisses. If you have a bunny, DO NOT bring them here. This is extremely painful to for me to discuss but I think I owe it to other bunny parents to write this review. My bunny passed away from GI Stasis and Dr. Sue did not even know what it was. It turns out, that it is super common with rabbits and any well-versed vet would know what it was. When our bunny stopped going to the bathroom, she said "wait a few days" before bringing her in. Now I know that anytime your rabbit isn't going to the bathroom, they need medical attention immediately. Even as we had to put her down, which was extremely traumatic, Dr. Sue kept saying "him" when our bunny was a girl. It wasn't until we got more educated on bunny health and started volunteering at a rescue that we had an answer for why our baby died. This was a terrible experience and I know people who bring their dogs here who say it's wonderful. But please if you are bringing a bunny, don't go. Our baby would still be here today if we knew better. I've never left a bad review in my life and this has been painful for me to even put into words, but other rabbit owners deserve to know. read more

We have taken all of our pets (dogs and cats) to Dr. Sue for over 20 years--long before she was in her current space. She is very knowledgeable, professional and caring. I especially appreciate her using a wholistic approach to any problem our animals have had. For example our dog Stuart (a five year old rescue when we adopted him) was prone to urinary tract infections. Once the infection was cleared with antibiotics, she suggested that we put him on a prophylactic dose of cranberry pills. He never had another UTI. Dr. Sue is great! We read more

For the past two years, I've taken my neighbor to TLC for the treatment of her sick old cat. Although we live in Ravenswood, she wanted Rambo to stay with TLC for two reasons; first, because Rambo kitty had been a patient there since his kitten days, with his original owner; and secondly, for the high quality of the care. Rambo typically saw Dr. Sue. He had multiple health issues that increased in seriousness and duration as he aged. He had diabetes and was insulin dependent. He had kidney disease. Occasionally other diseases of age, and complications of diabetes, struck him. We even once had to take him to the animal emergency room in Chicago, when he worsened over a weekend. Each visit was a long visit. I sat in the waiting room for maybe an hour each time. This wasn't because they were backed up, but because Dr. Sue spent so much time with Rambo. He got thorough examinations. He got acupuncture. He got Reiki healing. In short, he got thorough, considerate care that surely extended his life. He was a happy old boy, until he wasn't. Only a few months ago, as we drove home and my friend gave me all the details of the latest, $400 visit, I asked her, how long are you going to keep this up? She said, he's still a happy boy. Dr. Sue said he was hanging in there. I'll know when he's hurting. It was only about 3 weeks later that my friend stopped by and said, he's not happy. I'm making an appointment for euthanasia. Will you go with me? I said yes, and I did. The quality of care is most apparent at end of life. Everyone there was kind, understanding, and sympathetic. Rambo was ready to go, and he went peacefully, in my friend's arms. A few days later, my friend said, when I'm ready to get another cat, I'll take him back to TLC, even though it's a long ride, and we'll see Dr. Sue again. TLC and Dr. Sue are the best. I brought my Sofia here a Pomeranian puppy for her first groom. She totally loves it! The groomer did a great job of grooming my Sofia. It was absolutely awesome. The staff was so polite and friendly. This pet shop is a local family-owned business, which is great because they were cheaper than other pet shops. Aside from grooming, they had also snacks and stuff for your pets. The place was spaciously clean and smells good. read more

In this vast community of veterinary clinics that I have visited for 19 years, there is one that stands out like a shining star. Through out the years I have paid thousands and thousands of dollars taking my dogs to different Vets in the city of Chicago around my house. These doctors prescribed very painful, aggressive and costly options, some vets would take them in the back and returned to me trembling. As a last hope when one of my dogs , that I got from a shelter became very ill, I took her to TLC, hoping they could help her, and hopefully I would be able to afford the cost. My cocker spaniel , Nikki was scared, heavily panting, with hives all over her, and shaking when Dr. Sue walked into the room, she spoke softly and sprayed Nikki with a homeopathic spray to calm her down. It was almost like Glenda the Good Witch of the North, my dog stopped panting and shaking and was calm. Dr. Sue was able to examine her and came up with a treatment that cost half the amount of the other veterinary clinics I had been to. After our visit to TLC , the office called the next morning to check on Nikki the Dog and kept checking. There have been several other problems that developed through the years but Dr. Sue was there to take care of Nikki who is an 11 cocker spaniel and Lexie who is now almost 16. Dr. Sue constantly does research finding new, better and cost-effective techniques to treat and cure her animal patients. Dr. Monica joined the practice in 2011. She is a very knowledgeable, and thorough doctor that works on curing all animals. In addition, Dr. Monica is an excellent reference on finding different ways to obtain costly medicine for animals at a more affordable price. Not only do both doctors deal with dogs and cats but they also take care of exotic animals. Dr. Sue and Dr. Monica are the veterinarians at TLC , but the hospital is more of a little community. The whole staff is amazing from the front desk to all the vet assistance, to the veterinarians everyone is so kind, caring and accommodating, it is unbelievable that they can be so nice and helpful. Nothing seems to phase them at all the whole hospital really love all animals and their human owners, the staff bends over backwards to help them. I feel that I am doing the best I can for my dogs by taking them to TLC First Animal Hospital, that is why I drive 9 1/2 miles to get there. TlC stands out to me more than most animal hospitals. They are the most caring and transparent practice I've experienced. They really helped us with our Gavin's allergies, and arthritis. Gavin was being over medicated at a previous hospital and now we have him off all his medications. His doggie daycare was the one who questioned the dosage. Dr Sue really took the time with us and narrowed down his problems for a long term solution and not a quick fix. I'm horrible with words but I couldn't be more grateful for them! read more

RUN away from this nightmare of a "hospital". Gross misconduct does not begin to describe Dr. Lavishly. Today she wrote a prescription for my roommate 's poodle. She did not know the difference between hydrocodone and hydrocodone /homatropine. The pharmacist knew the difference and required me to make another trip to "Dr" Monica"s office to get the correct prescription. WRONG PReScription! Did they apologize? No did "dr" monica show herself and explain? No. The women sat and laughed at making me waste 1 hour of my day. We'll see who is laughing at the Ill. DEPT OF PROFESSIONAL REGULATION when I file a complaint. I am always wary of the spewing yelp reviews. However this is serious. read more

Dr. Sue and the staff rock! I apparently purchased 2 ultra sick turtles and I thought they were dying. She brought them back! We now switching our dogs over to her too. She is not one who pushes unnecessary treatments and she is a bit more holisitic. I like that. I already see a difference in the allergies my dog suffers from. He is on the road to recovery! The entire staff here really cares about the patients and what they do. Another former vet made it a bit difficult to gather my cat's files and they went above and beyond to acquire them and the Xrays. We have gone to numerous vets for the same condition over the course of the year with so many different diagnoses. TLC doctors and techs are extremely comforting and know you by name, pet's name and condition. There was no need to constantly bring the doctor up to speed like we had to do at all the other vets (at a follow-up visit mind you). Not only are they great at what they do, they are COMPLETELY honest with the possibilities no matter how bad the news can be. On top of all of that, they are one of the more affordable vets that we have been to, and we've been to MANY. Thank you TLC for all that you are trying to do for my little guy. read more

Our new home!! My husband, myself, and our golden retriever relocated from MI to Chicago at the beginning of this year. I was super nervous about finding a new veterinarian for our 10 year old, epileptic dog, and had visited a few other vets, leaving unimpressed. My first phone call to TLC First was a HUGE sigh of relief! They are compassionate, listen to you, and follow through with any promises. Dr Monica was absolutely superb with my dog, and also with explaining issues to me! We went through with surgery with our dog, and Dr. Monica has been nothing but wonderful in the past two weeks post-opt! One of the nicest groups of people doing what they love. Just after Thanksgiving I brought a kitten I just rescued from the side of the road to Dr. Sue and Dr. Monica after her health took a major turn for the worse. The staff, after consulting with the Dr's instructed us to rush. unfortunately, Princess (as our daughter named her) didn't make it and passed on in the car. In a matter of seconds Dr. Sue was there consoling us. Spending 40 minutes explaining what had most likely happened to her, and letting us know we gave her the best last week she could have had. EVERY MEMBER of the staff came in to say goodbye, give hugs and make us and her, fell loved. Then, we received a card during the holidays with personal messages from the staff. Again, every member, remembering us from that evening over a month before. Now, know we had NEVER gone there before. NEVER met any of them. I don't give online reviews but I am moved to review Doctor Sue and her entire staff. We came to her for end of life services for our beloved toy poodle who lived a full and very long life. They escorted me immediately to a private and impeccably clean and comfortable examining room where I met four of her staff performing various steps of the prep process - all in the most thoughtful, caring and professional fashion imaginable. Doctor Sue and her assistant gave this process an incredible level of dignity, and she made the most beautiful clay pawprint which sits on our mantle. TLC was referred to me by a friend, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to bring my teacup Yorkie to this practice. Dr. Sue is her primary, but I've also had an appointment with Dr. Monica. This practice make us feel like we are family, it is clear that they care for the pets that come in. Dr. Sue mixes both modern medicine and holistic treatments, and I love that. She takes her time when we are in, and spends time talking to me, educating me, and as a first time dog owner, that is very valuable to me. When my yorkie was diagnosed with a liver shunt, Dr Sue was supportive every step of the way. She referred a surgeon, helped out with side effects of medications, and checked in on us every couple days to make sure that my pup was okay. This veterinarian was recommended by a friend because of my dog's aggressive behavior. I was told Dr. Sue was amazing with animals and that she may be able to offer a better experience to my 4 year old pit bull mix. Well, I absolutely loved her and the entire staff! It was the first time fear wasn't shown by a doctor or staff member at a veterinarian clinic. Dr. Sue took charge and put my dog in his place! She offered recommendations for behaviorists in Chicago to begin the process of helping my dog learn how to get along in this world. It was the best experience we have ever had! Dr. Sue is also a Reiki master, believes in both holistic healing and medicine. She has kind eyes, and a good soul! I felt it as soon as she walked in the room. I honestly cannot wait to make our next appointment so my dog and the staff can get better acquainted. She is typically booked and has a tight schedule, but for me, I believe a better experience at the vet is worth it! I thought about not giving a review, so I could keep her to myself and not have more competition for appointments, but this facility, doctor and staff deserve 10 stars in my book! Thank you so much! Hands-down Dr. Sue is the best vet in Chicago. Drive to see her. Wait if you must. Her healing energy permeates the whole place. This woman loves and understands animals. And, if you don't get zeke and/or bruno being on premises, if you're lucky, you don't get tlc. Dr. Sue's calm loving pets spread that energy to all animals who enter. Our dog was lethagic, gaining weight...just not herself. We described this to a vet tech. before being seen, then, all of a sudden we hear...THYROID...from Dr. Sue in the back. They did a blood test. Was treated very poorly today. Receptionists were rude, put me on hold forever! I was trying to get approval for my dogs prescription food because the card expired and I was out of my dogs food. Yes, my bad for not paying attention to the dates. Petsmart called them and they said no they cannot approve it until I bring her in for a checkup. My dog has been taking this food for twelve years!! Then when I call to check on this they put me on hold forever (15 minutes). Then petsmart reception calls them and was told they would approve a small bag but that they couldn't fit me in until December but that they would call me back. I never got a call from them until after I considered switching over to another place and they needed the records. Then all of a sudden they called and could fit me in right away. No thanks!! You just lost both my dogs as customers! read more

I absolutely cannot have enough wonderful things to say about everyone at TLC! They are so wonderful and helpful, I love it! One of my friends had recommended TLC, for that was where she took all of her pets. Being a first time pet owner, i thought why not. I absolutely fell in love with this place. Everyone was so friendly and kind. My dog wasn't treated like an object that was just in and out of the office. the staff took time to get to know him and make him feel comfortable! If you want your animals taken care of, I recommend this place over any place even near Chicago!!!!! And for the person who is complaining about Dr. Sue's dogs....you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! read more

I took my 4 month old puppy to TLC First Animal Hospital to see Dr. Sue, only to have her two large Weimaraner's (70-75 lbs) harass and attack my puppy (20 lbs). She kept dismissing it, saying, "they like to put puppies in their place", or "the puppy is scared, so that's why he jumped on him". These two undisciplined bullies of dogs roam the vet clinic free, when they have no business being there. I took my dog there for care, and instead, he gets attacked. This last time, the male dog bit down on my puppy to the point that he was screaming, and she dismissed it again. I let her know that it isn't right to let her dogs attack small puppies, and I won't be going back. Besides all that, she pushes product on you from her vendors (without any real basis for doing so), and she over-vaccinates the dogs. Overall, she is a poor vet who needs to keep her dogs at home while she works. read more
