This review is long overdue. And yes, I know about their recent changes. All I'm offering is my experience, which has not suffered as a result of the change in ownership/management. Bramer has been our vet for 5 dogs over a course of 15 years, give or take. We have never, and I emphasize NEVER, had any issues or concerns with their level of medical knowledge, level of service or professionalism. Everyone we have even met there has been absolutely wonderful, from the vets that have departed to the new vet now and of course to all the vet techs and front office staff. I have also found their pricing to be very reasonable. We have been fortunate to have had such a great vet for our furkids. Most recently they fit us in quickly for last minute shots and paper work and gave us advice on travel meds for the kids. They were just as friendly and helpful as the very first time we walked through their doors. But, now, we are leaving the state and will no longer be able to bring our babies to them and that does make me sad. I only hope lightening strikes twice and that we find another awesome vet. Thank you Bramer for giving Bella, Hampton, Napoleon, Cooper and Winnie the attention they needed and for always being there for them. They have their tags and meds and are ready to travel!

Our cat, Nessa, is our precious kitty and we love her like a daughter. As a result, excellent vet care is of primary importance to us. That is why we are a tried and true Bramer Animal Hospital family: we want the best! We have now been seeing Dr. Valerie Schoen for 4 years now over the past 6 years and she has become like family. She treats Nessa how we treat Nessa: with love, kindness, and care. She is an expert at what she does and always knows exactly what advice and care to give to keep our Nessa happy and healthy. She also is equitable and will not try to upsell you. These positives are particularly notable because (1) the first year we moved to Evanston, we tried a different vet clinic (Broadway) and the Doctor was extremely rude and treated Nessa like a business-transaction object. We found Bramer the next year and LOVED it. However, we moved in the city (Chicago) in 2018 and tried a local vet (West Loop). (2) This vet shamed us into getting a round of special bloodwork, but failed to tell us it cost $260. We walked away with the largest bill by 4 times that we'd ever seen before Although Bramer is a far drive for us, the care and trust we built there was enough for us to return in 2019. We've gone back every year since and will continue with Bramer as long as we love in Chicagoland. We've also noticed that some vets prioritize dogs over cats. Our experience at Broadway reflected this. Bramer and Dr. Schoen have always made it clear that they treat all pets with equal respect, love, and care. As a result, this is a safe place for all pets! If you haven't found the right vet, or are disappointed with your current vet, I highly recommend you consider visiting Bramer! You won't be disappointed! Finally, we have appreciated the safety measures taken by Bramer during the pandemic! Thanks for keeping all of us safe! But we are also excited to hear Bramer will be opening up along with the state in mid June. It'll be great being back together. Thanks for being a part of our family, Bramer and Dr. Schoen. See you next time

I have been a client of Bramer Animal Hospital for nearly 20 years, I believe. They have had four of our dogs as patients, and so I have seen nearly every doctor there, because sometimes one of your dogs finds something the squirrels drop in your yard and eats it, or your dog gets sick, hurts their shoulder, gets cancer, etc. So I have definitely been to Bramer for more than routine visits. I believe they always got it right. My dogs enjoyed long happy lives. (My current "puppy" is a spry 14 year old dachshund we adopted when she was 7.) And they have been super compassionate when the dog's life in this world is over. I find all the Doctors to be super knowledgeable and caring to the animals. I receive all lab results back in a timely fashion. The front desk staff are always helpful and follow through with appointments, medicine refills, appointment reminders, clear invoicing and much much more. I am always treated with respect. Oh, and they run on time! I have never been left waiting a long time! I will be a client of Bramer's for hopefully a long time to come!

My first year here was meeting Natalie, who I really liked but my dog LOVED. She wasn't there this time around but Em was. Em is professional, detailed and informative in messages, so I know what to prepare for before and after vaccines and tests. For the past three years, I just assumed she was not particularly a dog person because I'd never seen her greet any of the dogs or even look in their direction, but she immediately came around to scoop up this white Lab puppy (paws so ginormous that it's sure to be a big dog). To my surprise, the other lady who often comes out to take the leashes and guide dogs into the exam room for shots immediately picked up the white puppy to weigh it and carried it into the exam room. This was surprising to me because the latter lady can sometimes seem a little cold and mechanical. In all fairness, she did smile at me when she saw me THIS time. (I don't know her name.) She seemed a little more relaxed, which eased my mind. My dog did pull away to avoid going in the door with her, and I started to rise but the vaccinations have to be done so I stayed in my seat (but staring at the door). A couple minutes later, my dog came barreling out, which I kinda chuckled about. According to that lady (I don't know her name), my dog was good. I looked down skeptically but still smiled at this black ball of energy. It was interesting to see the vet (Mark Primiano) not come out at all. The last two vets came out to tell me about the visit, give feedback on my dog's weight and a few other tips. I didn't even know who the vet was this time. (The only reason I know his name is because it's on the paperwork.) Then another dog (muscular and brown and gorgeous) came in on a choke chain and was barking almost the entire time, which made my own dog bark (who hadn't barked at three other dogs, including the puppy). The vet came out BOTH times to give feedback to the pet owners of the puppy and the barking dog, and still acted like I was invisible. For this reason, I could do without him. If he's going to come out to give feedback, do so with all the pet owners. Overall, though, I'd still give this a 4.5 out of 5 star visit because Em was helpful (per usual), Sophie (the other person at the front desk) was friendly to me and tried to win over my dog (who decided to be shy post-shots and hide behind my legs with her head poking through) twice. She did tippy toe toward the owner of the puppy to sniff her hands later on, and then zoomed right back under my legs. (Shy again.) I thought that was nice of Sophie (and the puppy owner, who I don't think works there but Em possibly knew beforehand) to do because it makes the Tree House visits that much easier. When my dog likes the people, it's a breeze to go inside. (She's almost dragging me down the street to go to the vet, which is NOT how my last two dogs acted.) So THANK YOU to Sophie for being so warm. I appreciate it. (And Natalie, hope to see you next time.)

However, I got this dog sweater from this location and thought maybe my dog would wear it once or twice for pics but never again. (I'm not a huge fan of dogs wearing clothes, but I had to admit a noticeable difference with my short-haired dog not shivering during winter months while wearing two separate coats. So I backed down on making fun of dog coats. My two larger, furrier dogs in prior years never needed manmade coats.) But this sweater is turning into a Linus blanket situation. I tried putting on a "Christmas" dog coat that matched her red Xmas collar (I love festive dog collars!!!), but it was white and getting dirty too quickly. I took it off to handwash it and put the Bark Place pink sweater on my dog solely for one walk, and she's been running away ever since when I try to take it off at night. At one point, she slid under one of the bar stools in my dining room, around the corner, ran into my bedroom and into her crate, flopping down sideways. Even if you don't need anything else in Bark Place, take note of the dog clothes. A bunch of my relatives crochet and knit, so I already knew the dog sweater was solid quality but expected it to wear. It still looks brand new, and my dog is glued to it. When I take it off to bathe her or what I *think* is comfier to sleep at night, she growls and leaps for it. I think a pink sweater and a red bow collar clash, but she couldn't care less about me being the fashion police. I'm tickled by how much she likes THIS particular sweater but has never ever been this into any other dog clothes gift (that I usually return) in four straight years. Don't sleep on the dog sweaters, I guess, unless you're my own dog who will turn over sideways so she CAN sleep in hers.

In December, our Vet noticed Bodhi needed another teeth cleaning. I didn't want him to receive anesthesia again so soon, especially because his breed is sensitive. Our dog had a temperament evaluation with a vet at Becker first. After, he was able to have a full teeth cleaning without anesthesia. The total cost was $305. Bodhi was wrapped in a blanket and his teeth were cleaned in the technicians lap. It only took about 30 minutes. The treatment included cold laser on his gums to help with swelling and a post-treatment consultation to review his dental hygiene, findings, and optional dental products. We left with a goodie bag including a dental chew, toothpaste and a toothbrush. Before and after pics and Bodhi in goggles for laser treatment. Yes, they even take pictures for you!
