I really wanted to support Moe and his business but I made a mistake…read more I had a large tear in my Doc Marten sandals and was hoping it could be stitched up with white string. He insisted that it would look better with a leather patch glued and stitched exactly where the existing stitches were and although I didn't mind it being stitched over the tear, I let the professional do his job. Moe knows I work in the area so after dropping a piece of white leather off on Saturday, he said "see you Tuesday." I stopped by his shop twice on Tuesday and twice on Wednesday and he was not around. My parents were going to be in Eastern Market on Saturday so I had them pick up. They asked for the sandal and Moe got the sandal and had to stitch it up in front of them.... And this is what he handed back. Typically my father would have said "absolutely not" and made him redo it, but it was obvious this is the best it would get. I really wanted to support him and his business but he obviously rushed through the job. I wouldn't have been upset if he was honest and said it wasn't ready and took his time to make it look good. While he was able to cover the tear in the leather, it is a really ugly job. Leather glue is everywhere, the cut of the new leather is jaggedy and uneven, and the stitching is even worse than the cut. These shoes were definitely not cheap and it was not worth the $20 I gave him to fix them. I feel bad leaving a terrible review because Moe is a nice guy, but if you are looking to have something like this done with your leather shoes just go elsewhere.

Where do I start? I really was trying to support Moe and his business. In prior years I have…read morealways seen his business in Eastern Market, but never tried it. I took 9 pair of shoes/boots for servicing... big mistake! He "rather quickly" picked up each pair as he told me what each pair needed and then gave me the total costs. I was surprised that I had to pay up front, but paid without contesting. The repairs ranged from skins added to the sole, replacing the bottom layer of some heels to prevent them from wearing into the heel, adding heel and toe taps and making them look "good". I was really surprised when he told me that all the shoes would be ready on January 2nd (I dropped them off on December 30th). I told him it was "no rush" if he needed more time which he vehemently declined. I picked up the shoes on the promised day and after going through some (all of which were in bags) noticed that much of the promised work (heels and sole skins) were not done. After questioning the incomplete work on some shoes he began to explain the amount of time he spent "cleaning up" my husband's shoes to get them looking good and complained about the amount of work done on the shoes vs the amount of money I paid. He continued with had I went to another business it would have been "much more expensive". I kindly reminded him that I don't know the cost of the work he quoted and that I never attempted to negotiate his fees, but paid what HE quoted for the work HE stated the shoes needed. He went on to state that he had to "forego" some repairs to "make up" for time he invested in making my husband's shoes look good. I told him that he had my number and could have called to communicate extra work had to be done instead of randomly eliminating promised work. I questioned the skin he quoted on the sole of one specific pair that I thought was in superb shape except for the heel and toe wear. He stated that he could still do that if I wanted. Against my initial inclination, I left them to be done and he told me I could pick them up the following day at 6:00 AM. I told him I'd pick them up, but it wouldn't be that early. I picked them about 5:00 PM. the following day and the booth was closed so I called him and he stated he would bring the shoes to my car and also offered some "free" shoe shines and/or repairs for my inconvenience (waiting, and making multiple trips), which I promptly declined. Some other bizarre things went on, he came out near my car looking at the shoes and took them back into the shop and continued working on the shoes, brushing and shining them while I was waiting. I called him back and stated I could pick them up another day if they weren't ready. He stated they were ready while I continued to wait. When he finally brought the shoes to my car I was absolutely MORTIFIED! What was beautiful two-toned shoes with a shine (that appeared factory finished) (see pictures), now looked old, limp and stretched. When I told him they looked horribly different. They were dark and was no longer a gradual two tone. He advised because he had to "oil" them they were darker and that they will get lighter. I'm so furious about the job that was done that I won't EVER patronize that place again! I wont get into all the issues, but Leather boots and another pair of shoes were polished (I assume), but they are now darker. My UGG boots still have a bit of salt on the suede around the heel, but a good job was done on them, but I feel absolutely horrible about my son's shoes that "I will replace them" since I offered to take them there. Moe talks a big game about his experience and expansive knowledge of shoes and materials, leather etc and how he's the best in the business. The talk game is good, but the talk and the walk definitely don't align. I warn all who have shoes they care about to be mindful of the hands in which you place them. Moe seems to be a nice and polite guy, and appears to want to stand behind his work. He has offered to strip the shoes and "restore the original color and shine", but "won't get into" why he changed the color to begin with. That's honorable, but I'm cutting my losses. I will NOT take them back for him to "fix". I don't have the confidence that the shoes can be restored to their original appearance! Why return something for him to "fix" what was not even an issue when I dropped them off. I paid a lot of money for THIS lesson, gas, wasted time, his fees $275 and $600 to replace a ruined pair of shoes! EXPENSIVE education!

Decided to wait a few days to write this cause I needed to calm down and not fire off a hot headed…read morereview. But I'm still get hot every time I look at them sneakers. I heard good things about the shoe doctor I brought in a few pairs of sneaks that needed attention. I was assured that all kicks would be done on the date discussed. One painted, one cleaned, last one was a restoration project. A tall task I know but again I was assured no task was too tall. And For the price I paid (I also over paid) all the kicks should've been immaculate upon the date discussed. A woman on the phone told me one number. Fresh (the painter) told me another number. I Didn't say nothing I let em have it. Charging it to the game thinking he would focus on my kicks cause I paid "extra". Just ended up getting finessed. The restoration joints were in a worse condition picking them up than what i brought them in (NO.. CAP...) midsole cracked up soles peeling off and the "paint job" was terrible.. I hate I ever brought them to ya. The other custom had flaws that was just painted over with white paint (their favorite color to use over there).. the last shoe just needed a simple cleaning.. Fresh just painted over the dirt and oxidation when i specifically asked him to use the oxidation remover creme to remove the oxidation on the bottoms. Shoe strings were still dirty too. The shop is nothing but a daycare for kicks. Cause they not cleaning them or restoring them. Them boys don't know how to clean the shoe strings fr... lbvs... I hoped for the best but expected some bs.. I'm never returning.. bringing you new business.. no recommendations to the homies no none of that. Way to kick off the new year Fresh
