At the end of Long Lake just to the South of Park Rapids sits a treasure...this was a very good meal at this roadside bar. We were sat pretty quickly in a spot where we could see the lake. Beers were local MN {mine} and brought pretty quickly. Order was taken quickly too. We started off with the Cheese Curds and they were very good with the raspberry sauce or just plain. I had the Pecan Crusted Walleye (baked with Parmesan and Wine), and my wife had the special Crab Stuffed Walleye. Lots of side choices, but I had the cole slaw and she had the Garlic Mashed Potatos {they were really good}. Food was brought fresh and hot, and was delicious. Getting the check paid took a little time, but it got busy just at that moment...so we walked up to the counter. Prices are appropriate for the quality of the food we got, and we'll be back for sure. A fun place to go in the Park Rapids area, with a truly unique menu. We came on a Friday night and enjoyed live music as well. Upon much discussion, my husband and I give it four stars. If we had been in the Twin Cities or New York, the food would be a two or three- but considering our options here locally this place is much higher than average. #itsallrelative We liked the fact that it isn't just standard bar menu options. The salmon was unique and adding things like Buffalo shrimp with feta and truffle fries to the appetizer menu is just something you don't see much here in Northern Minnesota. The prices seemed high for the area, so just be aware that you don't come here for cheap eats-- But overall a great choice for Northwoods foodies. read more

The place is nice it sits on a corner overlooking the lake across the road. The place was clean and the server was very friendly and helpful. Based on these things alone the Hilltop Inn would be worthy of four stars. But then there is the food and what they charge for the food. I had a half rack of bbq ribs with sides of mashed potatoes and broccoli. My date had a hamburger with mushrooms and onions with a side of fries. The ribs were not smoked ribs just cooked ribs with a bare amount of bland bbq sauce on them. The ribs had very little in the way of taste, I guess they use the bare minimum of spices. The mashed potatoes were lumpy but tasted fine and the broccoli was well broccoli. My dates burger was cooked just right and smothered in mushrooms onions and cheese. The fries were ok as fries go and the serving size was plentiful. The meal cost $ 40 ( not including tip ) and 2 adult beverages which seems a little high for the food they put out. I should have ordered the burger rather than the bland ribs I ordered. I give my meal 1 star but my dates burger was worthy of 4 stars. I wanted to give them a higher rating but the ribs and the mashed potatoes really left a negative impression on me. read more

We have been going to the Hilltop for more than 30 years. We dined there last night. What a change. We found a new confusing menu that made every meal expensive once a salad or potato was added. And there was no bread in sight. Even though the restaurant was less than half full it took a long time for our food to arrive. It was not as hot as it should be. So, overpriced, poor service, small portions, a poor value for a dining experience. We will not be returning. read more

This place is absolutely adorable...and the food was DELICIOUS and plated beautifully. The wait time after ordering was a bit long, however the hospitable, courteous waitress and yummy food definitely made up for that wait entirely. The wait was worth it! And to be fair this place was full at 7:00pm. The fried walleye is amazing. Even the side of fresh veggies tasted so good and flavorful. My family of 8 all finished their dinners completely it was so delicious. I'd definitely recommend the fried walleye. read more

Bland grossly overpriced food. I had the BBQ Baby back ribs, no flavor other than an hint of old meat and sauce was average at best, with garlic mashed potatoes that couldn't melt the butter I put on them. $27.. My wife had the Seafood platter, one small portion Walleye, 2 scallops and 2 small shrimp, $25, she wondered were the rest of the food was, average taste at best. Service was good. It is not a Supper Club, it is a Tavern that serves food. Can't recommend to anyone. read more

I have to say that I was completely amazed by the atmosphere, food quality and selection. I have been to this restaurant multiple times and keep looking for reasons to make the 10 mile drive out of my way for dinner. My favorite is the Blackened Tilapia (the server says it comes next day from the coast and it tastes like it) with fresh steamed Asparagus and potatoes. Pair this with a glass of Chardonnay and its a summertime delight. My wife absolutely loved the Bacon wrapped scallops. We found ourselves sharing plates like it was high school again. I hope to save room for dessert next time. There is no doubt it will be delightful. It's not only fine dining.... if you are looking for a burger, craft beer and some real truffle fries, you're in for a pleasant surprise. A combination of customer service, quality ingredients and reasonably priced menu items is what i look for. I feel like the Hilltop hits it spot on every time. What a great place to eat. The food is wonderful and it is a family owned business. They are all very caring nice people. There is a great outdoors area in the summer which is on the south end of Long Lake. We enjoy going there very much. read more

Things have changed since our last visit in 2017. Everything is ala carte. I paid $18 for one walleye fillet. No salad .... no potato .... no bread. By the time you add in sides the meal is over priced and I left hungry! It's not what I consider a super club. Only serving wine or beer. Service was poor. Waitress had too many tables! No refill on soda or water. Very unfortunate! read more

Great casual atmosphere overlooking Long Lake. Food and service is fantastic and the menu has a lot of options. Great for dinner out after a day on the water. You will feel comfortable in flip flops or slacks. Just a great atmosphere! There is a restaurant side and a bar side too. read more
