A year ago I had to give up my gym membership due to finances and change in work schedule. Last week I was able to open a membership at Toadal Fitness, and yesterday I worked out for the first time at the Scotts Valley facility. Talk about a warm welcome! Seriously, the front desk staff, Sam and Emma, took time to answer my questions, and were funny, professional, and kind. Furthermore, I called the gym before arriving because I had misplaced my driver's license and thought I might have left it there the week before when signing up. Emma answered the phone, and immediately went to work looking for it. Well, it was home in a pair of pants in the laundry, so her search was fruitless, but since neither of knew that at the time, she promised to call me as soon as they found it. When I arrived at the gym later in the morning, they treated me like their long-lost uncle. While we were talking, everyone who passed the desk was greeted with real regard and warmth. Finally got around to my workout, and I am impressed with the facility. It is clean, well laid out, has a great variety of machines, cardio equipment, and a dedicated free weight area with plenty of squat and power racks, weights, and room to move. And get this: they have an outdoor, covered deck with cardio equipment and machines. I think they started it during Covid, and it stuck. I loved it. I was reintroducing my body to an elliptical trainer while looking out over a large, beautiful pond. Light breeze, warm air, and well-maintained cardio equipment. So yeah, I strongly recommend Toadal Fitness. They vibe is wonderfully welcoming and encouraging, the facility is clean and well maintained, and the location is perfect, close to the freeway and in the middle of town. I'm heading there now, as soon as I submit this, 'cause I am sore as heck and need to keep moving. read more

I am pleased overall with Toadal Fitness. They offer a wide range of high quality machines, personal training, and classes. The staff are friendly for the most part. My one issue concerns those members who spend long periods of time sitting on a machine while scrolling on their phones. I have witnessed some members camping out on machines for 15 minutes or longer, seemingly unaware that someone else may want to use it. In my opinion the management of Toadal should make an effort to reduce this behavior, but they do not. At certain times of the day it can be difficult to access machines because some members do not move. This needs to change. read more

Used to be fine until they moved the classes into a sh*tty cramped room upstairs that is hot as hell. Some lady at the front tried to tell me it's bigger. We're not blind or idiots. This was the last straw. they don't treat members well and could not care less what the members need or want. P.S. maybe take our improvement fees and clean the place Once in a while. Great gym with a lot of machines and floor space. Full disclosure ... I usually go between 1:30 and 3:30. If a machine breaks, it's usually back up and running pretty quickly. If you need to put your membership on hold for awhile, they are pretty flexible. Nice people. read more

My husband and I been going to Total Fitness for years and have always enjoyed it. It is clean, great equipment, and a nice atmosphere. But what really sets it apart are the amazing employees, especially Jane at the front desk. She's so friendly and genuinely goes out of her way to greet everyone by name and make us feel welcome. Pros- price. Its clean. Good equipment. Good location. Cons- the hours. What gym opens at 8?? And closes at 4 (sunday). Yes they have some membership of all hours but i personally dont feel super safe without staff there. Child care...ok for babies & toddlers but really not appropriate for kids older. Theres no where to sit. Staff says management they want kids moving. Well kids are tired. Kids like to read or draw. They need a separate area for school age kids. My daughter wont go. I live in Boulder Creek and my husband and myself were evacuated last August for 6 weeks during the fire. He is a paying number and with all the trauma forgot to update his temp hold on membership. They charged us many months before we realized it..we were in the middle of so much upset, with smoke remediation etc. They refused to refund the $.. UNBELIEVABLE! DONE WITH THIS PLACE! read more

I sent my kids to the Toadal Fitness Summer Camp and it was amazing! My son is a diabetic and the entire staff was happy to learn how to support him so he could go to camp. The counselors are very experienced, kind, and super fun. The week was full of cool adventures and new friends. I was very impressed by the price, the quality of the experience and how easy they made it for parents to drop off and pick up kids at the varying locations. We decided to join the gym so we could get the first opportunity to sign up for camp and we love Toadal Fitness. I highly recommend the camps and the gym! read more

The Silver Sneakers class has been unpleasant since I rejoined. Any time a person says 'I don't mean to be rude, but' it means exactly the opposite. Yuck, it was made clear two of three times I went there was to be no room for a newbie in Silver Sneakers. The gym and employees are nice. Pity several of the old ladies lack class, and have a high school mentality. read more

Best gym in the world because staff is friendly, and most of the staff works out right next to you. If something breaks (from strong men and women), it is taken care of immediately. Expert teachers for all classes, and child care upstairs so your little ones can be having fun while you workout. They even offer an after hours membership so you can workout 24/7. read more

Well the child care has become amazing while the gym falls one more notch on the scale. The stretching room that was full during prime time with people stretching and doing there own mat workouts is now a "group class" with maybe three people. Everyone is being directed up stairs to the empty room to stretch and do mat workouts. Nobody is going up stairs to stretch then back down to the gym, locker room, free weights, and cardio room. Completely a bad decision. read more

My gym membership expired on Dec 2022. Since then I have not been going to the gym. Today I found out that they automatically put my membership on month-to-month basis and they have been charging my credit card $49 a month. Their system shows that I did not attend the gym even once and knowingly they were stealing money from me. This is not how any good person would behave. I will never sign up for Toadal Fitness again and I highly suggest that you don't fall for their trap either. read more

Two years ago I moved from Spa Fitness to Toadal and am now a member of two Toadal clubs, Scott's Valley and Live Oak. I moved to follow my Zumba teacher the fabulous Cecelia Kelly. Along with Zumba, I was looking for a class that focused on strength and core building and fortunately found the Toadal Results class. In the process of finding a good fit, I attended other classes such as boot camp, and power core. Those classes were challenging but as a previous body builder I was concerned about proper form, and was concerned about hurting myself or someone around me getting hurt. The Toadal Results class that I attend is in the Scott's Valley gym. The instructor for the classes I participate developed the course curriculum, Ms. Terri Roberts. The course is an additional fee to the gym membership and it's TOADALLY worth the expense. As a working mother with limited gym time, I can no longer spend two to three hours in the gym to get my work out on. Toadal Results is a one hour class similar to Orange Theory in that there is a focus on getting into the higher heart rate thresh holds. The class size ranges between six to eight members total meaning that each participant gets individualized attention to form and goals. There is a combination of cardio vascular, balance and strength building exercises. Terri alternates the curriculum on a daily basis and challenges each major muscle group through free weights, TRX, mat exercises and cardio pushes and sprints. As if all of this fabulousness isn't enough, Terri also fosters an amazing community for its Toadal Results participants. In fact, my class is doing the She is Beautiful race together this March. I just had the most upsetting and frustrating experience. I was asked asked to leave in the middle of the group class because I only registered one child online for childcare. There is no way the system is designed to have both of them registered. They told me the childcare was full and could not accommodate both of my children. When I went to pick up my kids they were the only 2 children in the room. I'm canceling my membership and never coming back. read more

Toadal Fitness is a super clean and awesome gym! They have incredible machines and loads of them. I have never had to wait to use a treadmill or elliptical. I have recently had to cancel my membership as I have a gym in the office and classes I should really take advantage and Stephanie is AMAZING - with her prompt replies. I have mixed feelings about this gym. At first I loved it but I feel like they over sold membership for such a small gym. I am here at 11:00 on a Tuesday and there is a wait for almost all of the cardio equipment. The only thing open is the stair climber :-/. This is at 11:00 in the morning. Ive emailed to address this directly and they keep billing me... I canceled in March and they keep billing and sending statements. It's absolutely ridiculous. I contacted my bank and disputed the charges. They canceled access to billing my account. But they keep sending bills in different colors. This review is mainly for my new favorite Yoga teacher, Padma. I love her class because I feel good physically and mentally after attending her class. She tells us how to get back from certain poses for not to hurt ourselves and also gives personal advice. She is a warm and fun person. Hopefully she will teach more morning/day-time classes. Overall, I like TF and enjoy Zumba and Power Core classes as well even though they are often overcrowded. I wish their bathroom is bigger and cleaner. read more

I've been going to Scotts Valley Toadal Fitness since they first opened their doors, so have been able to watch them expand and improve. My favorite thing about TF is the friendly staff. I mostly take classes, and I love love love Tracy, Michele, as well as everyone at the front desk (Mac seems to know my schedule better than I do!) They always welcome me and ask how my workouts went afterwards, too. When I was first shopping for a gym, I tried a lot of local places, and this has been the best by far. The monthly fees are reasonable, the staff takes suggestions seriously, and it's always clean--in contrast to some other gyms. Every year, they upgrade something which the members get to vote on (this year it was the lockers and some new equipment). Another thing I love is the inclusivity here, both from the staff and from other members. All different sizes, shapes, and people with different physical abilities are made to feel welcome. That generosity of spirit is what keeps me coming back. read more

Kaiser have a program for seniors offering free gym membership. My choices were Toadal in Scotts Valley or 24 Hour in Santa Cruz. I prefer smaller local businesses to big corporate ones and chose Toadal as my gym. I went in to register with them and was told that, because it is free, I could only use the gym between 1 PM and 3 PM. Which is pretty useless. I was also told that for $33 a month, I could come during regular hours. This felt like a bait and switch deal so I did not register but went home and called the company that administers this plan. They told me that the information that I was given was not true, that I get a FREE, REGULAR membership. Went back the next day and told them but was given attitude and categorically told that they could place whatever restrictions that they wanted to. So I registered with 24 Hour in Santa Cruz where I was given a warm welcom, treated with respect and given a full regular membership with no special restrictions. Their machines are clean, their staff great AND they have a REAL sauna, steam room, pool and spa. So maybe the guy at Toadal did me a favor. read more

OK, so: I just canceled my membership today. I did so, taking zero refunds, so I could, in good conscience, write this. When I canceled today, they heard my story.. but on my cancellation slip they wrote "Do not Use", and nothing else. The real story is so much more deep than that. I really wanted to love this club, I really did. The signup was excellent, not a huge pressure level, very pleasant to deal with them.. and it seemed like a great deal, with the trainer sessions etc. We signed our papers and paid our money, and set our sessions, and got assigned to random_blond_trainer_01. Based on how chill, easygoing, pleasant the signup process was, I was -really- excited about joining the gym because my weight was up around 300 after a fracture, and I was super motivated. Turn pages to the next day. We were running a little late for our trainer sessions, was no more than 10 minutes of which 4-5 was finding parking in the mad packed lot. I figured: Hey, this is a low key place, they'll be chill, we can just merge our two sessions together and divide by two, and we'll both get a solid start, and everything will be fine. Welllllll.... on arrival, our assigned trainer made a HUGE stink over the lateness while there are like, ... a frickin' dozen people standing around, kind of making an example of us. I think they assumed I'd be a jackass over it, that I'd try to force extra time or whatever, but no, I'm an adult, I understand how late works. They were saying the entire time block and the free session with it was forfeit, and I'd have to reschedule and possibly pay. When I pointed out there was an easy way to solve this problem that let us both be seen and dealt with, the person softened some.. but.. mind, all of this is being played out in front of a dozen people, with more coming and going as they're doing it, and they're LOUD, so there's no mistaking the scolding going on. There are staff folks hanging out there - Stephanie, who sold us the membership, was there, and there was no intervention, no smoothing over, no "hey, let's work this out". This is -day one-. First time there to exercise, and this is what went down. Now, at the time I was a ball of f*cking lard, and mortified to look that way, and extremely shy after my injury and the associated inactivity made me that way. The fact that I was there AT ALL was huge. To go through that struggle, to pay the money, only to be made to feel small and useless by someone who I was paying to assist me? That was a disaster. So I never went back. I kept paying, as my husband went, and he had a pretty solid time of it, but I couldn't bring myself to go back, because I didn't want to get harangued again or screwed with. There is a silver lining to my cloud though: The humiliation helped me motivate. Now I'm clocking in around 260, and still, slowly losing weight, getting more fit, and doing better.. but zero of that came from Toadal Fitness, unless you count spite-humiliation that their employee gave me that motivated me to do better. So that's that! If you're lucky, maybe you'll get someone good.. but just cautioning you: -during- the harangue that I experienced, I got to listen to staff kibitzing about people there negatively as others have described. They paint a nice picture and their ad copy is cheeky, but I'd rather have shitty ad copy and a shitty sell than people treating me like dirt when I'm trying to improve myself. read more

I joined 4 months ago but due to covid didn't go. I chose not to put my membership on hold during that time so I WS still bill which was ok. They had outside classes I could attend. The gym is now open with great safety protocols. Very friendly and helpful staff. The equipment is in the excellent shape. I love that it isn't crowded. read more

There's nothing better than a local community gym that may be small, but so very mighty. The staff at this location specifically are so friendly and accommodating. While I had to cancel my membership due to a move, I hope I can find a gym similar to this one in my new city! It's always very clean, not too crowded, and doesn't have that intimidating feel that most other gyms have. The sauna was one of my favorite parts of this great gym, and I loved that they cared about saving energy in every way they could! read more

I absolutely love this gym! I have been coming for just over 2 years and know the staff well. They are so kind and friendly, and the trainers and classes are top notch! I am hooked on the bootcamp classes (shout out to Lindsey and Jason) and am always challenged to push myself. The gym is clean, there's plenty of equipment, and they're always adding more! Now, the biggest plus for me personally though, the childcare! I have an almost 5 year old and a 2 year old and they love coming to the gym with me! Michelle and her staff go above and beyond for these kids and show so much love and care for each and everyone of them! From crafts, to playing catch, reading stories to just goofing around, the childcare staff shows so much joy in being with these little ones and it means the world to parents trying to get a workout in. There's so much peace of mind knowing your kids are well cared for, and that they're having fun too! I couldn't recommend this gym more highly, especially if you've got little ones...or just love bootcamp like me. :) read more

I've been a member of Toadal for a few years now and am usually at this Scott's Valley location. Equipment is great, clean, well-maintained. Nice variety of classes, too. My favorite part though is the excellent child care. My three year old really enjoys coming to the gym with me and loves all of the very kind care providers. They all seem to genuinely enjoy children, remembering names and really engaging with the kids. A nice variety of CLEAN toys is provided for the kids--toys are nicely maintained and replaced keeping the environment healthy and cheerful. It's a tremendous relief for me to be able to have a focused workout knowing my daughter is having a great time. If you're a parent in need of some "me" time, I highly recommend Toadal! read more

The environment was very casual and felt very comfortable.I ended up doing a day pass and was given a tour by I believe her name was Allegra. She was very helpful and informative. Everything is kept clean and over all the facility is perfect for my momma workouts! I've transformed my life! If you are looking for classes they offer everything you can think of.
