Before that, I pretty much only went to HIIT classes, so when I moved here I was worried because I wasn't trying to travel the hill to work out. The owners Chris and Camille are on site, in the gym, and very engaged with the gym members. I always see them there, and they always say hi. They even work out there. When you are in the gym, it shows and you can tell that they care about their product. And the product is more than just the gym. It is a collection of the gym members, the equipment, and the services they provide to the people of Santa Cruz. You can tell they really care about giving the community a place to be healthy and active. Their equipment is state of the art, and nice, and maintained well. It is not a pretentious place, there is no judgement here and you can tell. There is a wide variety of people who come here, they offer work out classes for people of all levels. Santa Cruz Athletic Club is also very reasonably priced given the classes, the equipment. I am so insanely happy that they opened up this place. The location really works well for me as I can charge my car at the Tesla chargers while I get a good work out in. They have an app to sign up for classes and document your fitness journey. The ONLY thing I may suggest is on the app, if they could develop a feature on the app that can tell us how busy the gym (a percentage of capacity) even if it is a rough estimate would be helpful so you know how busy it is before you go. However, that 3 hours makes all the difference. The owners Jim and Cathy are wonderful. The trainers past and current (Joe, Roxanne and Liz) are fantastic. The members (work-out buddies) become your friends and support group. The cross-training work-outs really are fun, while challenging. You definitely get a whole body workout, at each class. Daniel, who owns it, has got to be the happiest coach you'll ever meet and all the other coaches truly care about your performance or form, even when they are just working out along side you. Rocky and his team are fun and friendly and so incredibly knowledgeable about muscle mechanics and movement. They create interesting, different workouts each day and will modify anything to suit your specific need and help you reach your goals. The environment is 100% supportive, and in the group classes, everyone works to their own edge while supporting each other along the way. I exercised for a whole year with Sunita and ended up at the wharf to wharf race, a first in my lazy life! I still remember that experience, unique... I was totally into prepping for any and all the next races, but instead was pleasantly surprised by my pregnancy. Sunita helped me through a very uncomfortable 8 months by guiding me and or encouraging me to do the right exercise for my body in my condition, helping me get stronger and stronger for when labor came. Years have passed, and I know I owe Sunita being strong and fit for the hard work of delivering a baby. I learned to trust my body because she taught me how to move, stretch, push it to the edge and cultivate it.
