I was skeptical... Did not go in with high expectations of a beach bar and menu. We started with clam strips, chips and queso, and drinks. The clams were very tender and delicious. The queso which is my 8 year olds favorite thing was to spicy for him to enjoy and a weird color. So I am sure why you are wondering why I gave them 5 stars?? When the waitress came to clear the appetizers she asked US why we didn't eat it. I let her know it was to spicy which was our error, not theirs. She went to the manager and had the queso taken off the bill without being asked. That shows true professionalism and I have told everyone I know about it. Now back to the food, we ordered the pizza with pineapple and it was AWESOME. They used fresh pineapple! We will come back here again and again because of the great pizza and the amazing customer service! Great job guys! read more

Wish we had kept looking. Stopped for dinner expecting some half decent casual food. While the atmosphere was enjoyable the food was definitely not. First complaint is the fact that one of us got food poisoning after ordering the Tuna. She now refers to this restaurant as The Death Monkey after being ill all night within hours of eating there. And no she wasn't drinking! Second complaint was my over cooked, dried out chicken dish. It's probably no wonder the waitstaff never came back to ask how everything was. I made it to Toasted Monkey twice over the weekend as I stayed at the attached Howard Johnson. The first time was for the fight and it was very crowded and rowdy. The second time was for breakfast the next day. Toasted Monkey has an inside restaurant area and an outdoor bar near the beach. The breakfast menu was pretty extensive and I enjoyed what I ordered. The cheesy jalapeno hashbrowns were as good as they sounded and they paired quite nicely with a mimosa. The food wasn't anything to write home about, but the proximity of the restaurant was perfect. I would recommend Toasted Monkey for drinks near the beach and a nice spot to relax. As for breakfast, there are probably better options in the area but Toasted Monkey has decent food at a good price. read more

What's not to luv about this place, seriously. One of my top 5 Tiki Bars and few minutes from my house, I am sold. Great view, good bands and they make far better drinks then Jimmy B's. The location is ideal to walk to each bar to hear live music at either one, but the drinks are far better here as well as nicer employees. Parking is horrible here and they have someone up front making sure you are going to have an entree and sit in the front instead of the back (yes, they actually ask you this upon arrival!) otherwise they will not allow you to park. My wife and I had breakfast and dinner here while staying at the Howard Johnson Hotel. Breakfast was very good. I had the two egg breakfast for $3.99 and my wife has the one egg breakfast for $2.99. Both were cooked to perfection and the home fries were especially delicious. Coffee was first rate and service was excellent. For dinner I had the fried grouper sandwich with fries for $15.99 and my wife had the 3 fish tacos with cole slaw for $10.99. Portions were generous and my sandwich was amazing. My wife didn't care for the soft taco shells, so she ate the fish, lightly blackened, withe taco toppings and sauce and enjoyed it. The cole slaw was spectacular. We had drinks, my wife a sangria she liked and I had a dirty martini that was perfect. Again, service was great. We want to try some other places while we are in town, but will be back here for more. Food was decent. Nothing exceptional. Service was not good. Server forgot my sisters breakfast order. And took too long to check on our food so we were able to tell her. Also after finally receiving her sandwich (my mom and I had already finished our food) she never came over to check on us again or to even apologize about my sisters sandwich being so late. read more

Visited Toasted Monkey on a rainy Sunday, so it may not have been at its best. The restaurant in the front of HoJo was very family friendly and staff was excellent. The rain was interfering with the satellite TV, so stations were promptly changed to local channels. Beer was cold, but food was just ok. We looked around the Beach Bar out behind HoJo which seemed more interesting for adults, but it didn't seem appropriate for my 6 year old son. I might go back to check out the Beach Bar without my son, but I was not impressed enough to go back to the front restaurant. There are too many other great places in the area. read more

Service here sucks. Took a walk down the beach from our hotel and decided to stop in. It was pretty crowded but got a spot at the bar - yay. All went downhill from there. The bartenders were all surley and seemed angry that it was busy. I always thought busy was good for people on the service industry, but apparently not. Anywho, ordered a pina colada and strawberry daquiri. PC sucked, SD passable. Was thinking about ordering wings but no one ever came back to ask if we wanted anything else. This is by far the worst service I have ever had... I wish I could give this place a zero star rating. We arrived around 3:30 pm today, 2/16, and decided to go to the back tiki bar for lunch. Parking was fine since it's a Monday, it wasn't very busy. We sat on the patio on the right side, one of the small 2 person tables by the games in the sand. Our original server, who was a younger blonde with khaki shorts and a black jacket was fine, I actually feel bad because before we left she asked us how everything was and when we told her it was horrible she wanted to fix it ... but at that point we were just ready to leave, but it wasn't her fault. We ordered a beer and chips and salsa from her and when we were ready to order lunch around 4:30-ish, it must of been around shift change because a different server come to our table, a taller blonde who seemed to be a little older, she was wearing jeans and a black shirt.. she seemed to know a lot of the customers because she was talking to a guy with a dog sitting next to us, so maybe she was just more interested in socializing than being a valuable employee because she was absolutely terrible. First she came by and took one of our appetizer plates and napkins for the table next to us (? why? I don't know.. she didn't ask, she just took them), and said she would bring us more (which she never did). Then she took our lunch order and I wanted the Monkey Business Burger but with chicken... but for some reason couldn't add "sub chicken" when putting the order in (i've never been to or worked in a restaurant that couldn't do this... but I guess they don't allow that here), so I had to get a grilled chicken sandwich and add all of the burger toppings which ended up being $13 instead of $9. I also ordered slaw on the side. And we asked for hot sauce. She didn't write any of this down so my husband and I joked about if it would come out right or not... thinking it would probably be fine. She never brought the hot sauce. The sandwich came with fries instead of slaw, which I wasn't going to eat but I did end up trying half of one and it tasted like fish which makes me think they don't clean their fryers properly.,, so i'm glad that I didn't want them to begin with. We asked for waters and again, didn't get them (until we were ready to pay our check.. so by the time we left we were so thirsty). Then a couple of bites into my sandwich I found a hair... I pulled it out and showed it to the server and she literally said "We don't have any blonde cooks here"... like I pulled a blonde hair out of someones head and brought it with me to put in my food (i'm not a blonde either... so there is no way it was my hair). So she was basically telling me I was lying... I couldn't believe that a server would ever say something like that to a customer. She ended up taking the sandwich off of our bill but we will still never, ever come back to this place. I can handle a couple of these things happening... but all of them in just an hour is WAY too much... and I'm still shocked that she acted like I was lying about the hair, especially after giving us the worst service ever. We left here extremely unhappy (and hungry)... If I can give any advice to our first server, it would be to never let this lady help you with your tables ever again. read more

This is an okay spot for a bite by the beach and / or some drinks. The blue cheese burger was pretty good although I'd prefer the bacon on top of theelted cheese rather than in it. I'm a purist and I don't want my bacon soggified. The grouper sandwich was expensive and not good. Service is a mixed bag. The tall blonde lady whose name I should have gotten wasn't my waitress but checked in me frequently and was nice and smiling. :) read more

Love this bar... we visit several times every year while vacationing. The food is well made and fresh.... but you go for the fun live music and excellent drinks. It attracts a mixed crowd of locals and vacationers wanting to sing and dance to the live band! They deliver a fun ending to a day at the beach every summer!! read more

I've been here twice now and can't say I'm that impressed. It's not bad, but not great either. The first time I was here I had dinner inside awhile back. We then stopped in again this past Sunday during Labor Day weekend. The atmosphere was pretty fun, but the service was terrible! The first time I went to order a beer the bartender just looked at me with a questionable face. I guess that was his way of asking what I wanted. So I told him my order then he put his hand out. Again, I guess that's his way of asking for money. It was on the busier side that day, but not busy enough to not be able to talk. The worst part was trying to close. I'm pretty sure it took a good 30 minutes to try to get my tab back. I would wave down the bartender (a different one from above) and he would then say I would be right with you. Then would never come back. Finally my bf got his attention and we told him I wanted to close at least 5 times. He kept forgetting over and over. He even came out from the bar and asked us what the tab was. Then he forgot again. I will say the monkey has a cool atmosphere but as for service and price for beers, I'm better off going next door to Jimmy B's. read more

Amazing food and service. They even have gluten free buns. They make their own dressings and they were amazing. Car had firecracker shrimp, fried pickles, monkey business burger and a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon- and key lime pie!!! Everything was amazing. Recently visited this place and the food was great, there menu has changed a lot since I've been there. They got rid of the cheesy jalapeño hash brown which was AMAZING. I never write reviews on here but I was so impressed with the Toasted Monkey's service and food, that I felt obligated to share my experience with others. I worked with Keith to set up some tents with chairs and tables by the pool for my husband's 40th surprise birthday party. Keith set us up with 2 servers, Ryan and Mike. The drinks were good and served really fast it was almost unbelievable....within a minute or two tops. We ordered appetizers: wings, chicken quesadillas and coconut shrimp. All were delicious and fresh. I cannot say enough great things about the quality of food/drinks and service we received. The party of about 25 were all impressed. Can't wait to come back! read more

Came here for dinner. We've been having a reallyyyy hard time finding good food here. They were out of all the bowls (no quinoa or brown rice) so options for vegetarians were super limited.
