5/5 -- A Real Cigar Shop in Loomis I've been on the hunt for an actual cigar shop (not another vape store pretending to be one), and this place in Loomis was such a win. I was shopping totally out of my comfort zone, trying to find a gift for my boss, and Craig was AMAZING. He took his time walking me through different brands and quality levels, explained what made each one special, and helped me build a really solid variety pack that fit my budget. I told him I had no clue what my boss would prefer, and he made the whole process easy, zero pressure, and actually enjoyable. The shop itself is super clean, really easy to browse, and -- bonus -- they have a full cigar lounge attached if you want to hang out or bring someone who knows what they're doing. Best selection of cigars in my opinion, in Placer County and one of the older cigar shops. Ron and the staff are knowledgeable about the different sticks, will teach you etiquette in handling a good stick, and make your cigar experience one to remember. The front room is the humidor and the rear room is the cigar lounge, they have a Unisex bathroom. I have never had a bad experience in the many years I've been coming to this establishment. This place is great. The humidor is huge and has a large selection of quality cigars (including rare/hard to find cigars). This establishment is clean, well kept, and newly renovated with a high quality/high functioning large humidor and large spacious comfortable smoking lounge with cozy cushioned leather seating, a super efficient clean air filtration system, and natural lighting from a large window. The customer service is excellent and I had the pleasure of having a long conversation with the owner. The owner has an interesting diverse background with decades of experience in the cigar industry. He has a vast knowledge of cigars and music! This place is a gem. read more

I've been coming here for a while now and you get treated like family. Every one is so nice and the conversation is great as well as the selection. if you are looking for a Steve Saka cigars they don't carry them here but I'm sure you can find them next to the backwoods at the liquor store. Both my husband and I have been long-time patrons of Tobacco Republic (since 2006). I've been to many cigar lounges across the country and hands down, this is one of the best! The selection of cigars is one of the best! In our patronage there, we have been able to attend many special events, meet with many cigar company reps, including the likes of Rocky & Nish Patel and have made many friends there. Ron is one of the best cigar entrepreneurs I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and consider him a friend. Even though I now live out of the state of California, I still make a point of coming back to Tobacco Republic when visiting and consider it my "home lounge". I've been going here for years and am embarrassed I'm just now leaving a review. Ron has great cigar knowledge and I always look forward to visiting with him when I come in. This place a pretty large walk in humidor that is pretty well stocked with inventory, many items you can only find here. Ron likes to purchase some limited or small run items and "Buy them all." Probably the location with the friendliest fellow cigar smokers. One big lounge with front and back seating with big, comfy leather seats and adequate ventilation. Pepsi and water available to purchase for $1.00. Ron makes excellent coffee too! read more

This is a true connoisseurs' cigar lounge! Ron and Rich are great guys; they know a lot about cigars and they can point you in the right direction, for your tastes. They'll even help you experiment with new cigars, when you're in the mood for trying out cigars that are new to you. Ron really does know what he's doing and he takes care of his customers very well. No, you won't like every cigar here; that isn't a reasonable expectation, since every cigar smoker has different likes and dislikes. However, you bet all of the cigars are good cigars (and he even keeps cigars around that aren't well made, but he leaves them for the folks that come in and request the bad cigars; not short filler gas station cigars, but he does carry things like Graycliff that he keeps around because they're asked for (however, their blendings have changed and they aren't the same cigar they used to be ... stuff like that). Ask about the Secret Stash cigars! Great stuff at great deals! This is THE ONLY local cigar store that I go to. Seating area is comfortable and usually lively conversation is going on. Sign-up for their emailings, because they send out coupons\discounts and notices about events. Stopped in this place and was made to feel like a criminal. I was looking for a specific stick or two so was searching through the very impressive cigar collection -the owner or counter guy hovered uncomfortably close. I smoke 25-30 cigars per month and I'm always looking for a decent spot but I'm pretty sure this one is for locals/regulars only. For the owner I asked about box pricing because I typically buy in bulk- I was also looking for a gift for a friend- overall your odd treatment lost you somewhere between 450-700 dollars in sales today. Sad... I grew up in this town and the previous owner was always so kind. This is a very different feel than it used to be. read more

This place is not fun to hang around. The regulars in the lounge make people feel unwelcome and are in some cases outright hostile to new people. Cigars are very high priced and to be honest, you can find better cigars online at a more fair price. This place is awesome. Don't come in here expecting to find romeo y juliet or macanudos or your upmanns. As it was explained to me, they won't sell an inferior cigar just because it has a well-known name. They carry smaller distribution cigars like Rocky Patel, San Lotano and Gurhka. These guys know their business - say hi, ask for their advice, tell them what you like to smoke, what you drink when you smoke, and they'll be able to recommend to you a delicious cigar. I love this place as much as person who doesn't smoke cigars could. I came here because I wanted to do something special for my BF and he likes his cigars - problem is that I have no idea what to look for in a cigar. I walked in and was quickly greeted by Rich. I explained my situation, and Rich asked some very direct questions: what does my BF like to drink? How often does he smoke? And from this as well as a few observations I had made, he suggested two different cigars. I bought one of each. He packaged them up for me, including a cutter and a little bag containing something to help prevent them from drying out. This is definitely the place! I started coming into TR back in 2012 on my way from Reno. I had heard their radio spots and had been meaning to visit. I finally pulled the trigger and I am so glad I did. Ron, is a master tobacconist, when I first came in, I was greeted by Ron who promptly took me into the humidor and asked about my tastes and made suggestions. I had smoked cigars for 10 years prior but 5 minutes talking to Ron, I realized how little I knew. After walking out the humidor with my newly discovered sticks, I sat back to enjoy a couple...that was the beginning of me becoming a regular at this shop. Everyone is welcoming and it's a very relaxed atmosphere. There is no TV in the shop, just a radio and there is a reason for this...Ron wants people to interact and that's what exactly what happens in this shop. On my first visit Ron spent well over an hour with me and we shared likes and dislikes about cigars. He made some mostly good recommendations but pushed some higher end cigars (Gurkha Art Deco) that weren't worth the money. I can't fault him though as I was asking for something unique. He recommended a great "every day" cigar that I will continue to purchase through him (sorry, won't disclose as I want him to have these in stock and on hand for me...haha!). Ron also introduced me to a few "regulars" that were friendly and I would have stayed for a smoke and to shoot the bull if I'd had the time.
