The hubs and I stopped by for an early lunch, and we tried: their BBQ (slow-roasted prime pork shoulder in pulled pork form, served in a potato bun with coleslaw; wasn't a fan of this, as while the buns were generously packed with the pork, the pulled pork was just too wet and vinegary for my taste), the Junkyard Dog (sloppy joe, cheese sauce, shredded cheddar, and red onion; this was just okay), the Kim Dog Un (kimchi and wasabi peas; really enjoyed this, as the kimchi was super well-fermented to perfection, and the wasabi peas added a very nice touch to it! Kind of reminded me of a kimchi jjigae/budae jjigae in a bun!), a side of Mom's Mac 'n Cheese (kind of bland), and the red bliss potato salad (too dill-centric). They use Oscar Mayer all-beef dogs. If you're looking for the kind of healthy bistro that's going to help you keep your New Year resolution, this just might not be the place for you. If, on the other hand, you want hearty, meaty, comforty food that will give you the strength to persevere, get in the car, bucko! After much dithering and discussion over the menu, my sweetie opted for the One Sweet Chick. This is a chicken/apple smoked sausage with Brie, chutney, and French's fried onions. The Brie was an actual, honest-to-God SLICE of cheese, unlike the thin smear of goo served by some other restaurants I could name. I'm not sure how it was, as she inhaled it before I could plead for a smackerel. I was lucky to get a picture! I got the Coney Island Frankenbowl. It's a dish of Fritos and Cheez-Its, smothered in a generous helping of "sloppy joe" meat sauce, beer cheese sauce, cheddar cheese, and red onion. AND a diced all-beef Oscar Meyer weiner! I'm in love. We both got the "my Mom's mac 'n cheese" as our side - it was a lot like my mom's, too. Mmm. I got coffee, which was good, and Bride got a can of Dr. Pepper. This is one of the cutest restaurants I've seen. Pa is a big fan of hot dogs, so when we saw this place, we knew we had to stop. The exterior looks like an old motel and when you step through the doors, you can see little canine touches everywhere. They have artwork and knickknacks and tchotchkes galore. We loved it. But more on what brought us here: Food! They were very limited in their vegetarian selection. It was just the one sandwich and sides. I got the Tabby Cat - a veggie croquette with lettuce and tomato and their "zippy" sauce. The flavor was really great, but one of the difficulties with a veggie patty is that it can be a little mushy. The wasn't much combating the mushiness of the croquette and the softness of the bread. I wish their were more fresh veggies on the sandwich (onions, cucumbers, cabbage, etc) just to provide a little extra crunch. I got a side of macaroni salad and it was creamy, sweet, and had a slight crunch from the chopped veggies. I wish they could have maybe cut it in half and put it in a hot dog bun and let me add whatever toppings I wanted. They have a section of their menu where you can build your own hot dog, and I wish this was an option for vegetarians. C had the Choose-a-Chick with fried jalepenos and shredded cheddar. He said the chicken sausage was stellar (enough that he questioned if it was actually pork). He had the macaroni and cheese and let me take a bite. It was super cheesy and wonderful. G had the Coney Island Frankenstein Bowl and she loved it! The sloppy joe was sweet and slightly spicy but her favorite part was the cheese sauce. Nana had the Roll over Beethoven! and she said it was great. It is basically a hot dog version of a Reuben sandwich with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and 1000 Island dressing. She ate every bite which is rare for her. E got the kids meal with a plain hot dog that she got with ketchup and mustard. Hers also came with a canned soda and bag of chips. But the hot dog connoisseur of our group was floored. Pa got the Carolina Dingo that came with sloppy joe, Cole slaw, yellow mustard and red onion. He ate it faster that the rest of us could blink. That means something, folks. TL;DR: The dogs are great. Everyone in my group loved the variety and prices. So why only 3 stars? Super limited options for vegetarians and I wish they kicked that up a notch. Overall good experience, but wish I could have as much freedom making my sandwich that everyone else had. After an unsuccessful trip to Colonial Williamsburg where the workers at the courthouse and apothecary denied me service based on my service dog, I decided to eat off of the Colonial Williamsburg tourist trap. So we were in Williamsburg and as we're leaving my husband says let's go to the hot dog place. Well he was talking about a place we went to during our honeymoon in colonial Williamsburg. To our surprise the place was closed. No worries because we stumbled upon Toby's which was awesome. We were immediately greeted upon entering and showed the menu. Sure there are a ton of options but I'm pretty basic. The hot dogs were tasty I had the junkyard dog and my husband the Carolina dog, the little one had a plain hot dog which he devoured. Before coming in I skimmed the yelp reviews and knew I couldn't stop here and not try the Mac and cheese. This wasn't the cheese sauce Mac and cheese it was actual baked Mac and cheese and it was DELICIOUS. Oh and they have Bubbly which I love. This was our first visit but not our last. read more

Not only does this place have great Hotdogs with a wide assortment of such, but their Sloppy Joe is on point as well! The bar style seating is great! It's an excellent environment to sit back, relax and eat one of their delicious Hotdogs. We were lucky enough to have stopped at Tobys for a quick lunch. We were pleasantly surprised by a few things. Number one was the way we were greeted. We were welcomed right away by a very personable young man he was friendly and knowledgeable. He knew the menu quite well and was patient with us asking questions. You would think that a hot dog menu would be pretty easy but not true! 18 different ways to get a hot dog, hard to make a decision. Then there is the even more creative side of the menu where you can get things like the franken bowl or the "one sweet chick". Anyway you will just have to decide for yourself. I think we will have to go back again and try something else. We were happy to have a basic coney dog but now I think we need to explore the more "exotic" offerings. By the way they are serving Nathan's hot dogs a very good all beef hot dog. Hope you get Chris to help you with selecting your meal and he can explain to you who Toby is. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable. The whole place is doggy themed and friendly to dogs and their owners. First time I ever saw a special separate place for dogs and their owners. A solid showing of a well defined concept. On my two visits here, everything has been tasty and unpretentious. There are a variety of hotdog topping options to choose from, and here is where it fails. Looking at the menu at all the different dogs is overwhelming, and I think the Toby's could do a bit better by having around 5 really good pre made hot dog options and then allowing customers to build their own if they want something else. Pricing is reasonable although it can seem a bit on the high side for boiled franks. I would like if they had more options for different types of hot dogs and bread and perhaps elevated their toppings a bit-- for instance having some signature sauce or topping that can't be easily bought in a store. On a side note, if Toby's wants something unique, I would suggest looking into Icelandic style hot dogs-- surprisingly amazing and delicious! read more

Dog friendly! Clean, cute (dog house friendly) decor. Both women working were beyond welcoming and helpful to our family and my pup. They have a room in the back where you can eat with your dog. The women were so sweet, they asked if they could give Ruby a treat and then offered to bring out a bowl of water for her as well. All of their food is reasonably priced and they have the cutest little bar area to the right after walking in that I've yet to try. I ordered the Coney Island hot dog bowl and it was great, had to get a lid for the bowl because they give you so much food I had leftovers. I was excited when I heard a hotdog place was going to move into the old carrot tree. I will add that I am a bit of a hotdog connoisseur and they had just opened. I was disappointed that the only dog offered is a Oscar Mayer. How about adding a premium natural casing dog like a Bores Head, Thurmans or Sabaeett? Must be cooked on a hot grill unless you want to sell a ripper then a fryer will be needed. Sloppy Joe instead of hotdog chili is a cute idea but I didn't care for it. No fries, fountain drinks or draft beer. I like the idea of the bar but you can't order from the bar? I would like to see the dog house make it but they need to step it up and lower their price of a hot dog. read more

Overall, we liked our food but it was a bit overpriced. All the hot dogs are beef Oscar Mayer hot dogs. I had the bulldog, which had housemade BBQ (yum!), slaw, and crushed potato chips. It was really good! I added a side of potato salad which was also good. My fiance had a dog with brown mustard and Gouda (he opted out of the crushed cracker topping). He enjoyed it as well as the baked beans he added. We were slightly disappointed that the Gouda was just put on cold and not melted at all. It warmed up a bit as it sat under the dog, but it would be much improved if they could find a way to melt it. My SIL had a dog with sloppy joe topping, mustard, and red onion, which she said was good. My brother had the same dog as me and a side of Mac and cheese, which was tasty. Our friend also had a sloppy joe dog and he enjoyed it. One improvement would be a slightly better dog, like a Hebrew National, if they are going to boil them. If they stick with Oscar Mayer, it'd be better if they were grilled. I'd go back, but not often due to the prices. If they can get their prices down, it'd be a favorite spot of mine! read more

Had a lovely ladies motorcycle ride out to the Colonial Parkway and Jamestown Island. After that gorgeous ride and the lovely scenery of course we were hungry. We were going to eat at the visitors center by Jamestown Island but you had to pay to get in just to get to the restaurant and then pay for food. So the ladies started searching for close spots and this one popped up. It seemed pretty legit and a spot for a quick bite plus, who doesn't love dogs?! There isn't much room for parking in the front so we lined our motorcycles up along the curb and went in. We had at least 8 women with us so we needed a table big enough and this place was more than accommodating. It had separate areas to it and we chose a nice room with a few tables. To order, you go to the counter and let them know what you want and pay. Once it is ready they bring it to you at the table. Ours took a bit since we had a decent sized group but it was good! I love hot dogs and well other kinds of dogs too, so this place was awesome. It had great decorations, plenty of seating, and the gal taking orders was awesome. If I find my way back out that way, I'll definitely stop in for another dog. read more

Not going to post a star rating as I did not get a chance to eat! Not sure if this place is in business any more. Stopped by last night at 530 pm to give them a try. No cars in the parking lot, no open sign and the place was locked and dark. Peered inside and seats are in place and the coolers appeared stocked. Not sure what is going on but I was there at a time when they advertise being open. Yet there are no hours posted on the door nor was there anything that indicated why they might be temporarily closed if not even permanently closed. Everyone is so friendly! The place is very clean. The employees are all wearing masks and social distancing. Employees are constantly wiping and cleaning everywhere in the restaurant. I had family come into town, so I brought them over to colonial Williamsburg to do some site seeing. After we were hungry and I wanted to try something new and inexpensive. I opened up yelp and searched the area. I came across this cute little restaurant! I own a corgi and So when I seen this place I about had a heart attack (because I love corgis) lol. So we went and grabbed some food from them. They had a lot of different hot dogs on the menu! All the hot dogs are named after dogs and have their own unique toppings. On a whim I stopped by. The menu was intriguing, but unfortunately I would call this a fail. I ordered the "French Poodle" which came on a cold bun with a strongly flavored hot dog. The fried onions were straight from a can, the Brie cheese was cold and the mustard thick and overwhelming. Additionally, the one employee I dealt with was not very good at answering questions or helping customers as they came in... I sat at the "bar" and watched a couple other customers try to order. Stopped in here for lunch when visiting a friend in Williamsburg. It was a great choice! The dogs were delicious and boy what choices they offered. Sides were very good and beer was cold.
