I scheduled a Japanese straighten treatment. I went in for a consultation and she said she could do it, went in for my appointment and she was hesitant to do it and I said if you can't make it straight then don't do it. She argued back and forth w me and I let her to it because she was confident it will be straight. I wait 2 days after it's done to wash it and it didn't work it's not straight. I call and tell her that and she argued back and forth with me because I didn't want to wait another 4 hours to get my hair done and waste my money and time, I just simply wanted a refund of my $400. After arguing I go back also it takes me 40 minutes to get there and back home. She wants to do keratin and make it up to me I argue back and forth I don't have time to sit here and I just want a refund. She didn't let up and insisted on doing my hair and here I am again I washed it and still not straight and left my hair damaged and smells. STACY is the BEST!!! Been coming to this salon for 8 years now and as I'm getting my regular touch up color- decided to write them a review because Tocco Salon is really an excellent salon to go to. Stacy is amazing! I felt like I met a long time friend, so warm and friendly. I was very comfortable from start to end. I had color all over and keratin straightening and she trimmed my fried and dried ends from a bad bleaching that was done 6 mos ago. The process went smooth and fast and Stacy explains every step of the way. Price was great and I felt like I was in good hands. So happy with the result and will be back for sure. Not the warmest welcome, but the best service I've ever had. I'd have to say this place is a little hidden gem. I got a hair cut with shampoo and it was perfect and efficient. I was in and out in about 30 minutes. Sonia was straight to the point with her consultation and recommendation. It really showed that she cares. The stylists here Stacy is amazingly experienced! We went in for a japanese hair straightening and i was more that satisfied with the result. It only took about 4 hours for very VERY thick, curly hair and Stacy walked us thru every step. She was incredibly patient, and it speaks to this locations amazing customer service that she tried to makes us as comfortable as possible, offering us coffee, water and breaks thru the treatment. I'm Mexican with an Asian hair cut now. Thanks! Actually I don't mind the do, I've got a lot of compliments on it, but I wasn't going for that look this time. When I asked you to keep my bangs long I wasn't kidding. I can clearly see my ears which means my bangs are about 4 inches shorter than the back of my hair. The good thing is that since you cut my hair it's been growing like a chia-pet, therefor I can rapidly get the cut I actually wanted (somewhere else). Look I don't care about the dry hair theory in which one must cut off all the dry parts in order for it to grow. Woman I have bad ass hair b/cuz I over process the life out if it, if I followed your theory I'd have a bald head. Now kindly step away from the scissors. read more

I'm on a Southern California wide search for a decent salon. I always get cut/color and am willing to spend 200-250 dollars for a decent salon. However upon a recommendation I went to Tocco and I had by far the worst experience that I have ever had with a cut/color and customer service in my whole life. It has taken me quite a while to write this review I went to Tocco about a year ago now, but I had to let the anger fade a bit before I could express myself in words that I am allowed to publish. The 1st problem was that two different people were working on my hair, the manager/owner mixed my color which was later applied by an employee, the employee ran out of color halfway threw my color, she proceeded to mix another batch which resulted in half of my head being a noticeably different shade of brown. Yes I said brown, how can you mess that up, my hair is brown and I was getting it colored brown!!! IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!! The 2nd problem was I selected a very cute cut from their own personal collection of hair style books. It was a layered look, full of body. The manager cut and styled my hair to be stick straight after I specifically told her that I wanted a full look. I left with 2 tone hair that stuck to my head. It was a horrific experience. The only redeeming quality is that they are cheap!!! I paid 90 total for a cut and color, not bad if they did a good job, but because they traumatized me for life I think even a penny would have been too much. I was hesitant to go to the hair salon but my aunt raved about the owner-artist of this salon. Supposedly, she's one of the best hairstylists when it comes to sharp bobs. (Think Anna Wintour) One word of caution - she always cuts too much. Understand she can't stand my split ends and "damaged hair" but IMHO she always tries to cut a lot more than she should... or more than I want her to. Overall, I liked the service and I'd recommend it to my friends. I no longer go to this place because I'm growing out my hair, but it's a reliable spot to get a trim. At $40 + tip, you can't beat it. Oh, and they have a hair designer who used to be a make-up artist. He used to be a make-up artist w/ Bobbi Brown cosmetics. Take images/photos of the look you want and your favorite colors, though, because his English isn't too great. SO my girl Jay and I decided we needed a fresh new look..more me then her. She just wanted a trim. So every time I'm headed to work I pass by this new salon. I don't think much of it, but today or well now yesterday while on a crazy hunt to find a place that does good cuts for a reasonable amount of money, I accidently yelp this place and my friend Jay remembers this place and thinks we should try it out. I'm like o.k. BUT totally freaking out. Everytime i go to someone new, they always tend to leave me disappointed and I always end up back to my stylist and she fixes their mess...but happy to say NOT HERE! The girl who gave me a fresh new cut was MAY. Young and hip and totally understood the look I was going for. She would also ask if she was cutting too much, what I liked, how long, etc. She was so nice and sweet I absolutely adored her. AND ok here's the best; part my fabulous new cut... $25!!! I think this is a promo since it's a new salon, but even if they were to raise it to let's say 35 it would still be super worth it! I was so hesitant to write this review, but I hardly see people here and well I want them to keep their business going and not close down. Not to mention I would be one selfish biotch if I didn't write this review. It could probably help some poor lost soul out. So why the 4 stars?..I was thinking of doing color and I was told it would be 100. Right now i'm on the prowl for good deals and well a hundie would be too steep for m, especially if you knew my hair because my hair is pretty thin so I just couldn't justify that. Maybe if it was thick then maybe so, but it's pretty thin. So yes! I swear to you. Terrible service. I came later in the day and the lady audibly sighed while doing my hair because I have a lot of hair and it was getting late. I am fairly young and look even younger, so I felt that I was treated like a kid. Also, I called in advance about prices and was charged nearly double what I was originally told. My perm did not take and it was a big waste of time and money. When I called about this problem, I was basically told that there was nothing that could be done and I was not compensated in any way. I've been coming here once every 2 weeks for a few months now and honestly I gotta say this is my go-to place. Pretty much I get the same hairstyle every time I come in which is just a fade on the sides and a trim on top, very nice and clean cut afterwards. Just recently about a week ago, I decided to change up my hairstyle and they did it no problem and I love it! I'm happy with my new look and I can't stop staring at my hair. By the way did I mention the hair stylists are super nice and friendly. Been looking for a nice hair salon for awhile and I have to admit this one beats out every other salons I've been to. My new favorite hair place! I'd been going to the same stylist for 14+ years and I was no longer happy with the results. Ran into a woman with GORGEOUS color in the Riviera Village by my work and she told me to go see Sonia at Tocco. I've been 3 times and my color is FABULOUS. I always make my appts with Stacy and I love her friendly, casual vibe. Very thorough, very clean salon and the cuts by Sonia are perfect. Since this salon is within walking distance of my house I decided to be a brave guinea pig and try this new beauty salon. Fortunately when I walked out of the place my hair did not resemble that of a guinea pig. A banner hanging outside said hair cuts $15. Much better than the $35 that I have been paying down the street. I called to confirm that 1) they cut men's hair and 2) the price. Well the price was $15 or for the owner $25. I decided to see the owner since I figured that she had a bigger stake in the place than persons just renting space. From the outside Tocco looks like a house and the inside was a pleasant surprise. Nicely decorated and great design. Felt luxurious. This helped lower my blood pressure as I am always nervous trying out a nice place when my hair is involved. Sonia (Kyung Ae Kim), the owner and President was very confident and told me "don't worry". She cut my hair very politely and took her time to make it "right". The result was fine except for my wife laughing out me upon my return home and saying to me "cute". Anyway - I am happy with the cut and will safely return again. Been coming to see Sonia for about 5 or 6 years. I usually call ahead to make my appts but have also called for same day appts and she has been able to accommodate me. She is very good at what she does and her price is very reasonable. She is not someone that will talk your ear off or talk nonsense which i really appreciate. I've been coming here for several years because it's close to where I live and is convenient. Another plus is the fact that this place uses great quality hair dyes. Most important, Sonia, the owner, is an extremely skilled hair stylist with a ton of experience. However, this place has poor customer service. Sonia is unfriendly and borderline rude. She can also be a bit rough -- if you're coming for a pampering experience, you're in for an awakening. I was willing to put up with it because of her skills, but I drew the line when she was rough cutting my daughter's hair and nearly burned her scalp despite her yelling "it's too hot!" when she was blow drying. I've needed a haircut for so long, but I am so particular about my hairstyle that I'd rather continue with bad hair days than to try and find a stylist that can give me what I want. In any case, while in the area, visiting my sister, I spotted Tocco Salon within walking distance so decided to give it a go. Although I didn't have an appointment, they were able to get me in. I didn't get the stylist's name, but I showed her several pictures of the styles I was looking for and we both agreed that the one we chose was the one for me. I absolutely LOVE my cut! I started with shapeless, medium length hair and ended with a chin length bob shaped and cut to compliment my face. There was another lady getting her hair done by another stylist and she looked amazing too! My cut cost $30, but I've paid triple that amount for cuts just as good, or sadly some that came out bad. So...I think this was really a bargain. Other than the usual hair services, this is a full service salon with reasonable prices that includes facials and mani-pedis. The location was perfect for me, on PCH, the salon stylish and quaint with a friendly staff. I will definitely go back! read more

Came here under the recommendation of a friend and will likely return here again. Made an appointment, came in, and Sonia was able to start on me almost right away. Hardly had to wait, good sign already. First was the initial rinse, I don't know what shampoo they used but it left my head feeling minty fresh. I am new to the area and decided to try this salon because I recieved a 20% off coupon. I called to make the appointment for highlights and they said it would be 60 dollars....which is pretty inexpensive!! I also informed them of my coupon, which would be an additional savings. When I arrived I was coldly greated by my hair dresser. We reviewed the cost and she said it would be around 80 dollars....not what was discussed on the phone:( I told her about my quote on the phone and she said she would do my highlights for 70 dollars. I was annoyed...but I agreed. We did not speak the entire time. I was offered some tea which was the extent of our talking to one another. When drying my hair she did not use a brush. I asked her to dry it out with a brush nicely, and she did. My hair turned out ok...a little to blonde, but I didnt want to complain. When I went to pay I presented my coupon. The lady at the cashier insisted that I wait and use it in the future. She even went on to say that the hairdresser put extra highlights in my hair so I got my money's worth. I insisted that I use the coupon as discussed.....she finally took it. Needless to say I will not be going back. It was an annoying experience. I guess you get what you pay for. I will never ever go here ever again. Cannot emphasize how bad their customer service is. I went in to trim my hair because I wanted to grow it. I told her this and she said "we'll keep the length". Keeping the length does NOT, and ever will in any country, mean cutting 3 inches of hair. Seriously? I stopped her and asked her about it and she said that I wanted to layer it. Even if I asked for layer, it does not mean cutting 5 inches from the front part of my hair. Now it looks like I am wearing a super short bob wig over my hair. Great job! Way to admit your mistake. This is one of my 2 favorite salons. I always have LONG hair with layers and side-swept bangs. The worst experiences I have had at other salons are when stylists cutting off much more than I ask for. I only cut my hair about once a year because I like leaving it long, but when I do, I can definitely trust Sonia (the owner) with my hair. Sometimes, there is a slight wait even when I have an appointment because the previous client runs long, but I have not had to wait any longer than 10-15 minutes, which I think is very reasonable. I am kind of girl who will drive two hours to get my hair done right. I normally don't have set budget for making my hair looking at its best. And I don't easily trust a new stylist. When I found this place, I felt like I hit a treasure. It is a few minutes from my house. It is very clean and warm. And the most importantly, Sonia is one of the best stylists I have had. She uses the best products and gets the job done right. She is very experienced, fast in actions, but will pay great attention in what she is doing. I have had three or four cuts and couple colors there. She gave me new styles each time. All look very nice. You will have to trust her idea and judgment in designing your hair. Sonia has been one of the most kind and caring people I have ever met, so it shocks me to hear people think she is rude. But, if I am honest, I thought she was not totally friendly until one day... I had recently been diagnosed with a tumor in my head and Sonia and Stacy noticed one side of my hair was developing faster than the other, so I spilled the beans about the tumor... and they proceeded to care for me in ways I never imagined. Sonia took me aside and prayed for me (in Korean, which was really cool!) and she put me on a prayer chain that reached across the world. That was 3 years ago, and even though I only go every 6 months or so, Sonia always asks me about EVERYTHING in my life - she remembers my kids and my husband by name, and even though there is a slight language barrier, there is no denying how kind and caring this woman is. And in terms of hair (salon review, right?), I have long blonde hair and go for cut and highlights. They do a great job, and Sonia is so good at keeping my long layers, and my long bangs (no Dumb and Dumber, here!). She is an expert at cutting my hair. They have never skimped on products, styling or anything. I got Keratin a few years ago and loved the results. I have never had a bad experience, so it is strange to read these other reviews.
