My husband loves a bar around the corner from us called barcade. The concept is the old school cabinet video games and a bar. As you can imagine, when I stumbled upon a similar type bar in Dublin, I knew we had to go. I love that there are lockers when you walk in, for your stuff and their wall of games. A hostess greeted us immediately, and we sat down. My husband disappeared while we were waiting to buy tokens for the games, which come in a fun little bag. The menu is in old gamer magazines. I loved their attention to detail! The menu despite being bar food, is extensive and veggie and vegan friendly. We got the fries, I got veggie nuggets and my husband got a hotdog. All the food was good. I didn't realize my nuggets also came with fries, but my husband was happy. More fries for him! I had a orchard thieves cider, which was delicious. We watched a few people play what looked like dance dancer revolution (it had a different name) before playing our own video games. I do wish they had a ms pac man or Frogger but they did have Tetris. Downstairs, there's a pinball room with about 6 or 7 pinball machines.

The place is mostly visited to have a different type of pub-experience. If you've ever played an arcade game in your life, this is indeed the place to be. The beers are a bit over-priced IMO, but it's worth it. The joint is filled with old-school games like Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, and a few pinballs in the cellar floor. Vegan food available and very much recommended! Pro tip: I'm a heat lover, but their extra spicy seitan tenders were giving me a challenge. 12/10 heat level.

We were recommended Token by some locals we met while in Lahinch. Really cool vibe, was nice to be off a touristy path while in Dublin. Pretty good drink selection and loved that they have cup holders on all of the machines. On the main level its kind of tight with all the machines and maneuvering those and the people but overall good fun. Definitely head downstairs for some pinball! Xx

Very disappointed with this bar. It was recommended by a friend to go here, and we were sorely disappointed. Many machines were out of order, and no one who worked there seemed to care. Very dirty place. Bartenders were very rude and provided horrible service. One bartender said something very derogatory to my friend, which took us by surprise. I would not recommend Token to anyone.

They have Time Crisis 4, which gave me a big pang of nostalgia. Anyway, this is all beside the point. I include these details for those of you who might go to arcades for anything other than Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). I swear I've spent so much money on this machine, I'm basically keeping Century City afloat. It's not like it's a particularly good DDR machine, the songs are all J-pop, the price is €1 a pop, but it's very addictive. Very addictive. Thanks to those obsessive Japanese (even more so than yours truly), the game has 5 levels of difficulty, ranging from "bloody hard" to "break down in tears". I have yet to complete a mission on the 2nd easiest level of difficulty, something I find very emasculating. Not content with making you move your feet with the timing and precision of MJ himself, they also have a great laugh randomly changing the tempo, gah!

I was surprised at how many people were playing the games, this being at 11am and the year 2013, especially when you can download most of the games on your phone for 89 cent. A nice place, somewhat a look into the past when entertainment was simpler.

That being said I've been dragged in here a few times and sometimes it can be fun to get rid of your loose change or win an ugly stuff animal that isn't worth the 4 Euros you spent trying to get it. Be warned though that these games are rigged!! Watch out for the people eying your machine too. They're waiting for you to put in all your money so they can swoop in afterwards and collect your reward. Another word of caution for the Dr. Quirkey's newbie: there are some rough people that hang out here. Because it's located on the top of O'Connell Street, you get a lot of bratty little kids that are bored and looking to rattle some cages. This place is good for a cheap thrill or if you need to kill time before you catch your bus out of town.

There's no drinks here, so you don't have the drunken debauchery that sometimes accompany casinos. There is a decent variety of games (blackjack, roulette, video poker) but they're all automated (no dealers, no chips, no cashier) and honestly it gets boring pretty quickly. Dr. Quirkey's is good for an hour or so of (relatively) inexpensive entertainment, but not much beyond that.

I discovered this place via Yelp and I heard it named by some local record collector and when I visited I found it pretty cool even if I do not collect or even play retro games. What I liked in this store in the first was the attitude: lotsa records everywhere, lotsa turntables to try them by yourself, lotsa selection and fair prices. The place is little, is literally underground and the people working there are pretty young and they listen to very good music with old time stereo systems that sound ok especially for the place. Someone in Dublin said to me this businness is run by Trinity College students (and it could be considering, lucky them, they are pretty young: I met three of them, a guy looking like a young Mick Jagger, a very nice lady spinning great country infected records and the self called Boss I said before (he played Sufjan Steve records, so he shouldn't be that bad :-). The young Jagger played a super cool The Clean record after we had a talk about new psychedelia and paisley underground (I found a True West record for 5 euro, or 3 records for 12 euro department down below) and I recommended it to him to check it out. So, what I really like in this store, was diggin' in that "3 records for 12 euro department", were you can really find everything, a lot of any and every type of stuff in various configurations and conditions! Some have broken covers, some got terrible vinyl condition, then same, many, are good and they can be a real deal, then they still are like they presented them: second rate purchase for one reason or another and it needs someone like me to appreciate it and buy it, just if the price is reasonable. So the first time I was very happy becouse, after having all the fun in the store listen to those records, selecting them and finally choosing a big bunch of them to buy, I was greeted by the "young Mick Jagger guy" an appreciable, appreciated and expected discount. I went out of the store very happy and find the time to come back two or three hours before the fly to come back home few days later. Sadly "the young mick jagger" left the store before I completed my new selection to purchase and when it was time to pay there was "the boss" to the register and the attitude was completely different related with the price policy even if I said the other guy had a completely different approach and it was in that moment he explained to me he was the boss there. I let my selection there literally in his hands (no purchase) becouse it was impossible to find a fair agreement (and I was a bit disappointed) then I still recommend this place becouse it is still my fav place for records in Dublin (hoping to find the right guy at the register). PS: I was still lucky: pretty much what I was interested for (circa 30 records) was bought in my first visit, those additional 10 records I left at the register wasn't essential so "the boss" didn't impacted too much on my The Rage experience. No too much "rage" at the end. :-)

Written by my daughter Sienna: On a particularly lazy day…read moreduring our trip to Dublin, we decided on a whim to book an escape room time at Escape Dublin, which was within walking distance of where we were staying. This was our first escape room as a family, and we came in with no real expectations, as well as a complete lack of experience. From the first moment we entered, our game coordinator, Sarah, was friendly, accommodating, and flexible, and even allowed us the choice between the room we had booked and another that was also open. We ended up picking Witchcraft and Wizardry, instantly folding ourselves into the world of enchantments, potions, secret passageways and clever clues. Despite our slow start as we adjusted to the new environment, we quickly began to uncover the hidden messages, reading between the lines and working closely with one another to eventually finish, with little time to spare. It was our first completed escape room, and we had the most exhilarating, hectic, and absolutely awesome experience. We are definitely coming back with our newfound puzzle-solving skills gathered from the first room, and it created so many exciting memories for our family. We implore anyone else that happens to find themselves in Dublin to visit this delightful place, which is excellent for those who want to exercise their wits and strengthen bonds while having an absolute blast with family or friends.
