Once a month The Toejam Carboot Sale is held within The Bernard Shaw. Last Saturday the yard was awash with cars and stalls. The Big Blue Bus Pizza's from their Double Decker Pizza Kitchen were as delicious and charmingly dished up as ever. Other distinctive and very characteristic items available for purchase included Gammy Christmas Jumpers, Christmas Trees for sale handpicked from the Noble Farm in the Wicklow mountains as well as an abundance of Xmas Tree decoration kits. Ice Cream Van Djs, Warm Apple Cider and delicious Sweet and Savoury Crepes a plenty available for purchase alongside Bernard Shaw Coffee House coffee, the hilarious yet idiosyncratic Mulled Buckfast, Arabian pipes on the bus, Hooka Pipes positioned within the smoking area and last but not least Dutch hot tubs out the back are all laid out for your abiding enjoyment. This distinctive set-up is very typical of The Bernard Shaw's general cool ambience that I spoke about in my previous review. It's vibrant without being intimidatingly hedonistic, dynamic minus any self-indulgence - and it is because of the way it implements such an otherwise tricky juxtaposition that I love this place so much. Befittingly, the celebrated DJs Nic James and Melodee putting down the electro boogie, b-more and bass into the wee hours, again contrasted the laid-back vibe radiated by the afternoon goings-on. This drinking hole is rapidly growing to claim the status of my favourite haunt in Dublin.

The Bernard Shaw is a very divisive pub. You either love, hate or love to hate it. Of course, being the alternative trend setter that I am, I fall into none of these categories. I love the balls of a pub to be so different. And I love the graf art inside and out. And I love cheap pints. But I hate the bitterly pretentious stench that hangs over the place, and the desperate need to be cool so shamelessly on display amongst some of the clientele. But that's the price of trying something new I suppose, not everything's going to work. So there you have it, I'm thoroughly divided in how I feel about the place. Far from my first choice on a night out, I'd still hate to see it go.

I love this place. Perfectly underwhelming on the exterior, as soon as you enter you begin what feels as an adventure through the different bars/rooms. Young vibe, hipster bar, i will be back. Great service and no tourists

If you're tired of Crawdaddy, think that Wax has too many emo kids but still want somewhere achingly hip to hang out, why not take yourself along to The Bernard Shaw just off Camden St? The Bernard Shaw was at one stage just another one of the many pubs between Dame St and the canal, but since Bodytonic have become involved with the place, it has become uber-trendy and prone to all sorts of hipster affectations. "What's the trendiest type of music around? Dubstep? Cool, let's start doing that then. A car-boot sale on Sunday so that everyone can buy vintage clothes and kitsch crap of every disctinction? Done." All pretentious nonsense aside, The Bernard Shaw is a good place to go for a night out, or even just a few early evening drinks, what with their pitchers and €3.50 pints. Just don't play your Black Eyed Peas ringtone in there or they'll run you out of the place.

I take back some of my former criticism about this pub. I went back to The Bernard Shaw to see my friend Danny's band play and I had an excellent night. Even before the band started, this girl DJ was playing a really interesting mix of records, some international sounds with African beats and classic oldies. The band Fandango played great reggae/ jazz/ funk music and people were dancing their pants off on the minuscule dance floor. The bar staff were really easy going and gave away free lollies when you purchased a drink. Drinks were on special, 2 for 1 Mojitos!

Fully and trusted hipster venue. I you see a fence used to park single speed bikes, a wall with an attractive Graffiti and a house founded in 1895 maybe you are in front of The Bernard Shaw. No doubts there, come in, you will enjoy it. Inside two small rooms, the first one is just the bar. They use to have art exhibitions with emergent artist. Downstairs the second room, kind of cocktail bar with some tables to enjoy the drink. A third space is the backyard, with a pizzeria bus, a billiard and more tables to sit. And of course, more graffitis. I would like to recommended the deal pizza and pint that you can get in the bar. The pizzas there are nice. The pint of Guinness with the day, sometimes is good, sometimes average. Go for a night hipster, go for a night to the Bernard Shaw!

Passing by, you wouldn't know that this place is huge! Enter the pub, and there are a few tables and a bar. There's a menu on the wall to order eats like pizza (which smells amazing!) They also have a mojito special (although I think they could use a bit of a kick...) Head downstairs and you'll find a couple more spaces with tables and video screens and great tunes! Then make your way outside and discover their 'secret' gem! A double-level bus with a kitchen and seating on the top floor. It's the coolest thing ever! Order a pizza and head upstairs! If the day is warmer, forget the bus and play some pool in their outdoor covered area. This place is begging for a bright warm day! It's awesome! I'll be returning for a pint, a pizza, and possibly some pool...

Place is more of a contemporary American style bar that has areas for live Music. Kind of a loud spot however

Upon entering it was pretty packed, and my girlfriend and I were searching for the live music and where the band was going to set up if indeed there was going to be live music. Now here is where it gets funny my yelp friends, when we searched the outside bar area and still couldn't find it, I went up to the bar and asked one of the bartenders when do the musicians arrive and his reply was, " they are in the corner over there playing already." The three-person band was playing very softly and in the most far-reaching left side of the bar hidden away. You could not really hear it and when I say the place was jammed pack with people near them, I am not joking, we could barely see them. I had half a beer here as my girlfriend and I weren't in the mood to stand the whole time to music we could barely hear. I appreciate that this is an old bar that people frequent, kind of reminded me of the dive bars in Philly to a degree but just know what you are in for before coming if this is the bar you ultimately choose for a night out. As always people SYOY!!!!

But the space had since closed down, which was a shame. Now reopened since 2013 as a Jazz music venue, we paid 8 EUR after making the descent and entered a placer cooler than a hipsters bicycle. The bar and initial lounge was laid out well, which some funky décor and candles on tables. Next was the stage area, which was down a few steps, where there are more tables adorned with candles. Keep going to the left you are met with The Sitting Room, an area which is just that, a comfy sitting room. Back at the bar we spy craft beers - hurrah! I first go for a brewdog Punk IPA, but then switch to their 5am Saint. Both lovely beers. Due to the fabulous recent weather, the audience was slow to fill and as a result the music started a lot later than envisaged by the promoters. But when it did get started, my gosh was it a cracking set. The band was called Mages Takotak, French I believe. They were excellent. I'm no jazz expert, but we all really enjoyed the show. Alas by the time the second band had started, I had to go... it was a school night after all and as much as I would have loved to have stayed, I just couldn't Highly recommended and I definitely will be back.
