Definitely one of the better restaurants in the Decatur area. The food was fresh and delicious. It did take some time for the sushi to come out since they only had 2 sushi chefs for the entire restaurant, and we came on a busy evening. Our server was polite and professional. They did run out of miso soup, but they quickly put together an onion soup in lieu of the miso soup. The alcoholic drinks were good, although I've had better Mai Tai's at other places. The restaurant has a great ambiance. It's obvious that they put time, thought, and money into the decor. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a good place for larger groups, but I recommend making reservations more than 24 hrs in advance, especially if you want a hibachi table as they are limited. read more

Edit: As requested by the management's response, I emailed in order to answer additional questions about my experience. It was either a bot, or an individual just going through the motions, as they asked for a copy of my receipt and the last 4 digits of the number of the credit card I used to pay. When I reminded there was no receipt and no payment because we left when our reservation was not honored, "Jordan Selvidge" stopped engaging. Again, reconsider holding special events at Toki Hibachi. Extremely disappointing experience at Toki Hibachi tonight. Made reservations to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th birthday. My son and his family came in from Alabama. Our entire party arrived 5 minutes in advance of the reservation and got in line immediately behind two other groups who were then seated. When we checked in the hostess advised we would need to wait in the bar area for about 30 minutes, as they only had two grill chefs. I asked her if they knew they'd only have two chefs when we made the reservation; she acknowledged they would have known, since they only have two on Wednesdays. I asked if the groups she just seated had reservations. She acknowledged they did not; however, she said "they got there before [we] did." I would understand if we were late, but we were 5 minutes early... Absolutely unacceptable. No apologies. No attempt to extend the least amount of effort to perform even a modicum of service recovery. I asked if it would be possible to seat us at an empty grill table for drinks and salads. She said it would have to be at the bar. I was embarrassed and we were all disappointed, as we were really looking forward to our meal. We retreated to our cars and called Olive Garden down the road to see if they could accommodate us. Nothing AMAZING, but when you're looking for quick Japanese eats, especially Japanese grill food with large portions, this place exceeds expectations. This was a DoorDash delivery. I got the steak noodles and the chicken noodles, which is essentially steak with lo mein noodles and chicken with lo mein noodles. Through DoorDash, the price was between 13-14 dollars each. The portions are HUGE. Like, GIGANTIC. These to-go dishes essentially weigh several pounds each. I made a huge mistake ordering both! Regardless, the meat is well-seasoned. It comes with the creamy sauce (think yum yum sauce) that can sometimes be nice addition, but if added too heavily, ruins the flavor because it's so thick and salty. The only problem I witnessed was I was waiting for a table when two women of color walked in and the Short girl of color shows up and walked past me with no interaction and seats the other customers ahead of me. It's fine. I mean your in Decatur what do you expect, your lucky this place even exists here. They cook to the tastes of the local crowd. So everything is sauced to death. Every damn thing is hit with no less than three liquids as it sizzles. Typical hibachi fare. But have you been to a hibachi grill that ever had a different menu? Steak was temped perfectly. My husband and I both love sushi. We've both had really bad sushi and quality sushi. Since moving into town, we've eaten here 3 times. If you look at the profiles of the posters who made negative comments about Toki, that's all they do is post negative comments like a typical Karen. Every time we go to pick up there is a line of people waiting for their food so if it's anything they do wrong is maybe give bad estimates on when food would be ready. I ended up in Decatur IL and decided to have lunch before I return to Chicago at Toki. The girl taking the orders was very friendly. But when I came in the fish tank looked dirty and she mentioned many fish died because the "owner hasn't clean it" The food came out quickly and it was warm. I did not like the styrofoam container because is not recyclable. I ordered shrimp hibachi. The food was very average. The rice tasted more like soy source than anything. The 7 shrimp were overcooked and the broccoli was hard. It is better than McDonald's for sure but not more than 3 stars or average. I will not come back. read more

Every single item we ordered was either charged incorrectly or made incorrectly. I ordered the hibachi chicken dinner and my husband ordered the same, except he wanted no veggies and noodles rather than rice. There were veggies in his and not mine, the noodles were regular spaghetti noodles. And we ordered some sushi rolls with soy paper, the price is listed as an extra dollar (thats normal) but they charged me 1.50 for each. And my husband asked for no cucumber or tomago on his and it came with both. We were very disappointed and won't likely order takeout again. Ordered online. Claims they have crab Rangoon dip for $10. Instead received 8 rangoons , same price. What an incredible rip-off. We will never order from here again. They overcharged us for the soy wrappers on our sushi. All five of the sushi rolls that we ordered we're made wrong. The chicken hibachi that I ordered was nothing more than Italian spaghetti with grilled chicken and soy sauce on top of it. They list items on their website which they apparently don't make. Finally the online ordering was turned off, and their phone was busy, so someone had to go there in person to order and then come back 45 minutes later when it was done. My family and I have been going there for years...when it was Fuji. Never had any problems but the last couple time we have been getting sick. So last time we went I cut into the steak and it was really undercooked and had to cook it more. To add into that the portion sizes amwere not even close. I got steak and chicken and another person got chicken and I got twice the amount. Very disappointed. Only thing bringing me back is the rice. read more

You don't realize how much you love hibachi until the closest one is almost an hour away. Toki left nothing to be desired. The service was great. The hibachi chicken and shrimp with fried rice came out quickly and was hot and delicious. The two sushi rolls also came out quickly and were fresh and looked and tasted great.
