I've visited Tokyo twice now. Once for dine in, and once for take out. It's a welcome breath of fresh air after spending so much time in areas surrounding Kokomo which have few good food options. Service is prompt and friendly. Presentation is gorgeous, especially while dining at one of their tables. I especially love the avocado roll and the avocado peanut roll. I was happy to learn that the miso soup is completely vegan. I've enjoyed the vegetable tempura as well. The smaller portion is mostly sweet potato with a couple pieces of broccoli. On my most recent visit, I ordered the large entree sized tempura. While good, it too was heavy on the sweet potato but also included broccoli and asparagus. One piece of asparagus was too tough to chew, and I long for some mushrooms thrown in, but the tempura is very good overall. I'm not sure if I would get the tempura entree again as, while it includes miso soup and white rice (or fried, if you prefer), the salad that came with it wasn't anything to write home about. The side salad only consisted of chopped iceberg lettuce with a couple small pieces of cucumber, a thin half slice of tomato, and a dressing I didn't care for. I normally clean my plate, but I barely touched the salad. I don't remember the name of the imported beer I chose when I dined in. It was okay but a little too flowery for my taste. I'd definitely get something else next time. Prices are reasonable, and the menu is fairly large. I liked the atmosphere especially when I sat in one of their booths. I will most assuredly return as soon as I am able. I wish I lived a bit closer so I could have delivery whenever I get a taste for Japanese food. The only downside is that, though the particular dishes I get are filling, I'm very hungry again in a few hours. I may order extra to take home next time. read more

Different. Different taste from other Japanese restaurants. So different that I was unhappy. I asked the restaurant to hold the tofu from the miso soup. The soup had leaves, maybe seaweed, in them. I did not like it. I substituted the salad for steam rice. The fried rice tasted different from other places, too. The lunch Hibachi chicken was different with cucumbers and tomatoes. The best was the plain steam rice, but I can make that on my own. My lunch was just not for me. I think other Yelpers must like this place for the sushi. read more

This place is kind of hidden if you have never been there. Its right behind CVS in a plaza setup. The seating is good and can accommodate large groups. I would say they have the best sushi in Kokomo hands down. They may be a little higher priced but you get much higher quality and service. I have always been very pleased when eating here. They also offer the hibachi but I have never ordered it. The only down fall is they serve soda out of the can, and not fountain sodas; however they do offer both Coke and Pepsi products. The set up and atmosphere is higher kind of fancy and the restaurant is always very very clean. If you are looking to have nice dinner and quality sushi this is the place. read more

Best in Kokomo! Always fresh! Fast friendly service, very clean. Small quaint location. Only about 15 tables. This includes about five booths. Great for taking the family or for a business lunch. Seats are available at the sushi bar. This is fun for date night. Decor is modern and clean. They have a couple TVs hanging to watch the news during lunch. The atmosphere is always very calm and nice. Lightning isn't too bright or too low. They usually have upbeat Japanese music playing softly in the background. This only adds to the experience. We have tried so many things on the menu. They have a great selection to choose from. The Indiana roll, oh my God roll and spicy devil rolls are all very good. Our go to favorites are the spicy tuna rolls, salmon sashimi and the fried rice tastes so fresh you'll never want the greasy kind again. This really is a hidden gem in a nondescript shopping plaza behind a drugstore, but the food is very good. I typically prefer sushi with fewer ingredients, i.e, not doctored up with a lot of sauces. With that in mind, I love their tuna avocado rolls, and tuna combo. The salmon is quite good too. If you like the other types of sushi rolls, they have those too, and in abundance. If you or someone in your party is not a sushi fan, they have tasty fried rice dishes too. They taste lighter than fried rice dishes from most other places, but still flavorful. The restaurant is clean, the servers are very courteous, and the food has always gotten out to my table promptly. Also, if you are looking for some takeout, they do a very nice job in that regard as well. This is a very nice establishment. read more

Great authentic Japanese food in Kokomo? You can't be serious! Get over to Tokyo Japanese and check it out. We had a variety of food and shared amongst the four of us. We liked the seaweed and cucumber salad. The maki rolls we tried were good including the sea and green dragon. The salmon combo was good because the fish was fresh but it isn't near as exciting with just fish and rice. The prices and the service was good especially because we got a free scoop of ice cream. Check out the lunch specials from 11-3. The food is 4-4.5 stars and the service and price are 5 stars. I rounded up on the review overall because you can't find anything like this around. read more

For the city of Kokomo - this is a 5-star place to be. Prices are reasonable to a medium size city. The miso soup was excellent and really hit the spot. Ambiance - excellent. Music (usually oldies) playing in the background. Had the rainbow roll and spicy tuna hand roll. The sushi tasted very fresh on a Thursday afternoon. The spicy tuna had a different color than I'm use to but still good nonetheless. Servers did not speak perfect English but man give them credit for trying to explain what was in each roll to you. It's a bit pricey but they do have coupons often enough and it's worth the money for the quality and variety of options. The restaurant is a bit dark and conjures up images of Osaka for me. The interior design is like that of many restaurants in Japanese department stores, which is fine. Serving the miso beforehand with spoons in it was not the normal Japanese way (I spent 16 years in Japan and was married to a Japanese: miso comes with food, without spoon), but who really cares? The fried gyouza, tempura, and katsudon (the edges were a bit hard) were all nicely done. The staff aren't Japanese, but they do a good job at Japanese food. read more
