Tokyo Market was a charming little shop! They offered a fantastic selection of ingredients, snacks, and Japanese souvenirs. Nice little Japanese bodega. It's tidy and nicely unkept, however the selection is a little lacking. Albeit the store itself is small, the majority of the items are dried foods, then some frozen snacks, and finally a small section of cutlery like teapots and cups. Really cute little Asian market hidden between other businesses, a sweet little gem I found just by chance. Very nice staff! Cashier was nice and courteous, said hello and goodbye, and checked out my items quickly. A very sweet encounter. They have shopping baskets! A very nice touch to such a small store. Store is small but well organized- a lot of merchandise varying from food products to glassware, even origami papers and little snacks that are hard to find elsewhere. Rice, seasonings, curry packs, fish, kimchi, sweets, ice creams, drinks, chopsticks, little gifts for all the ones you love. It's got everything wrapped up in a little store. No noticeable loud music- if there was music, it was very quiet and ambient. This store has a relaxed environment. I didn't feel rushed by staff (only one visible staff member) to hurry up and get out or anything. Crowd rating: When first entering the store, there was one other customer already checking out. The whole time I was in there (for some 20 minutes) I was the only customer. Not a popular spot just yet but I'm sure it'll catch the attention it deserves. Prices posted! All prices are either on the shelf or on the item itself. Not one of those sketchy places where prices are unknown- very reassuring knowing how much I'm about to spend. Cheap! Good prices! I go to a few of these every now and then and by far, for the selection and service, these prices are a steal! I got three things here that wouldn't have been available at one store, let alone for the price I got. I spent 12 dollars. Anywhere else, it would most likely be closer to 20-25. Very clean and organized shop with all the essential Japanese cooking needs. We needed seaweed for sushi and was quite surprise with several selection. Also, we bought Vietnamese rice wrapper which I thought they would not carry. They primarily carry Japanese items hence Tokyo market. Plenty of snacks to choose from and I opted for the seaweed & salt chips...yum! There is small section of frozen items. Frozen sushi grade fish and calamari. Green tea & musk melon ice cream. Instant ramen everything. Bento boxes so cute you don't want to use them... Walking in here took me back to when I was in Japan, except I was in Yorktown, not Tokyo. Apart from the awesome Japanese food selection available, amongst the spices and sauces, you'll find kawaii charms, jewelry, candy, wasabi chips, matcha everything, comics, cookbooks, chopsticks, sake giftware, tea sets, ceramic pots &tea cups, Japanese incense, stationary, cards - the list really could go on! I love the ceremonial grade matcha from here - I'd much rather spend $10 for the real thing than half the size for $30 from Whole Foods...it's a no brainer guys! I urge you to visit this place if you haven't already and if Japan is one of the loves of your life. Exceptional fish for sale for you sushi sashimi fanatics, and the owner is more than happy to help and cater towards your needs. A cute little shop that's worth the visit. It was managed by a gentleman when I visited and he was so friendly and helpful. There was a lady who came in while I was browsing and she was searching for a specific item and he went above and beyond to show her products she was describing. The store offers an array of all things Japanese related. From snacks, to all kinds of ramen and condiments and tea and cooking stuffs, they had it! Everything was neatly organized and was easy to look through things. The store is very small - like one file line through the isles to fit. I did find things to be a little bit more on the expensive side like the green tea I needed. For the price I paid I could have gotten double elsewhere but the quality is top notch. They offer some things I haven't been able to find in other Asian stores so I'm sure I'll be dropping by in the future. read more

If you love all things Japanese, this is your place! Adorable little market with everything you could possibly want to satisfy your Japanese cravings. The owner is so friendly and willing to help you find what you need. What we like best is that you can get sashimi grade fish here - so when we really want to be decadent on our salmon, we come here and get a side. Makes amazing nigiri and melts in your mouth. It's also a lovely trip down memory lane for me because it has every single snack/drink I got used to when I was in Japan. It's a tiny little spot so it's easy to miss -- in the same shopping center with the County Grill. Okay, just off of principle alone, I have to give them a five star to offset the review below. Why in the world would you give a business a one star because you do not know if they were open or not? Jeeeesh. Anyhow.... Yes, they are open. I talked to the owner and found out that they had been closed for renovation. Their new store is very clean, well stocked considering how small it is and the owners are very kind, sweet people. They carry a lot of Japanese pantry items, some frozen and refrigerated foods, and other asian items as well as cooking utensils, clay pots, tea pots and anything you would need to cook a simple asian dish with. Up front, they have some beautiful and cutesy japanese decor. I did not know how to cook miso (it really does involve more than just miso paste) and the owner was sweet enough to go into the back room and type up his recipe for miso. Service does not get any better!!!! Pricing is a tiny bit more expensive, but just a little bit more. Definitely does not deter me from supporting this wonderful, local, mom n pop business. Edited to add what I got on this trip: Miso paste, dashi, aloe juice, ramune, curry paste and rice seasoning. I definitely spent a bit of time staring at their beautiful clay cooking pots and tea sets. read more

Cute little store with a bunch of things that people may want/need. As for me personally, I was looking for specifically E Asian incense. I checked E Mart, didn't find any, couldn't recall ever seeing incense at Jung Ha, and so found this little spot! It's a small store, but packed with essentials + gifts. There's grocery things on the right and the gift items and snacks on the left. I liked seeing their large selection of housewares, especially bowls and tea sets (very cute ones too!). I picked up some snacks, I believe they're around the same price as the Korean marts in NN. As I was looking at their charms on the wall, next to the register, I turned my head and saw Japanese incense! Very happy that they carry a nice variety of scented incense. I picked up the rose and lavender (they have green tea scent, which is interesting..), and they smell great! Burns for about ~20 min. or so. The owner is also very friendly! read more

This is a jewel in Yorktown. I'm from Hawaii and was craving Asian food and found this little store . They had everything from seaweed , edamame, Mochi ice cream , and HAWAIIAN SUN juice. The owner was so nice and friendly and told me he would order Hawaiian sun for me again ! Also gave us free ice cream when we left the store ! What a find ! read more

Tokyo Market is my favorite store. Although I don't live in Yorktown, I try to visit it at least once a week. Mr.Lee is amazing and tries to keep many varieties of mochi, popsicles, noodles and green tea in his store. He even sells cute tote bags and mugs. read more

Don't usually leave negative reviews but my husband and I just got ripped off by these folks. Keep in mind they don't scan items to ring them up, and there aren't very many prices on the items. I had about 8 things in my basket & the cashier lady started Ringing me up, and saying the prices as she went. Then the other gentleman worker, I'm not sure if he's the owner or not, came up and started giving her different, higher prices. He continued to raise every price she said, then speaking to her in Korean. She looked confused and then started claiming she didn't know the correct prices. When we got to a drink, she said the correct price of $1.79, then he said, "no, it's $2,50". At that point, we turned around and looked at the drink refrigerator display directly behind us. We found his item and directly below that bottle was the listed price of $1.79. When we pointed that out to him, he claimed that it was the wrong price and they had made a mistake. Then they started saying that they had just switched the location of the bottles around today, and forgot to change the prices. Well, we told him that he should honor that price because we were staring right at it and that's not our mistake. This gentleman argued with us for about a minute until the female worker just said "oh OK, I'll refund you your $.70". It was at that point it became clear that he most likely marked up every item we had purchased, even if it was between $0.20-0.30. That adds up to several dollars. It was really shady and they kept talking to each other in Korean. I'm very disappointed because they have a lot of stuff that I liked. read more

I watched how 2 other people walked in, so I parked out front and watched them shop without wearing a face mask. Please do not support establishment that treat customers this way. read more

I continued looking around, then a bout 5 min later he said can I help you find something. I was still deciding what tot get at the store. The prices are really expensive. I've only been here twice but I already love this little store. It may be a small store,but there's a variety of things you can get here. I've gotten ingredients for sushi and curry along with snacks. The owner/manager(not sure if he is the owner) is incredibly helpful for whatever it is you want to cook. I absolutely love shopping here. The owner is extremely helpful and so kind; he's Korean but knows a good amount of Japanese, based on the times I've communicated with him in that way. Even when he's busy helping a customer on the phone, he's still attentive to everyone else shopping in the store. For owning a small space, it's packed full of plenty of goods for oriental cooking (especially Japanese ingredients, of course). He even sells Asahi Super Dry beer, which is hard to come by around here, not to mention he sells the best green tea ice cream (my favorite, and his is much better than any other brand I've tried at other local grocery stores). I only wish he had a website, so he could draw more people in! Will continue to support his business as long as I live here. read more

Things are a bit pricey but you can't really complain. This is the only place I've found that has frozen sushi grade fish. No, you are not supposed to use fish from farm fresh for sushi unless you want to take a chance of getting sick or parasites. read more

Yes! And here I thought I had to drive all the way to Newtown Rd for the international market to get the goodies I needed. I had agedashi tofu on the brain and with the exception of tofu and probably mirin, I probably wouldn't find the stuff I needed to make dashi from scratch at farm fresh. Found everything I needed and then some, like a pint of matcha green tea ice cream! They got mochi too, but I don't like mochi. More for you though! read more
