Flame roll good but not spicy

Had snow crab salad, Iowa roll, seafood fantasy roll and Gangnam roll. That is the order in which we liked the roles. I don't like the spicy tuna at all. Otherwise, it was all good but not amazing.

Love this place!! The staff is always so warm and welcoming! Service is always very prompt. I love the sashimi and sushi combo, and we almost always get the calamari for an appetizer. Sometimes we opt for the Love Boat because it's loaded with all best sashimi and sushi! The restaurant is always very clean, and the staff are all so friendly! This is my go-to sushi place. My son loves the hibachi, and enjoys the show you get when sitting on the hibachi side. I personally prefer a booth on the main restaurant floor, but it's nice to be able to choose.

Sky Roll and Sashimi Deluxe. Absolutely delicious, and well priced, to boot.

It has been over four years since I last ate at Tokyo Steakhouse with my favorite dining companion. We had a great experience then, so we had high expectations for our return visit. We came in mid afternoon, around 2pm. The restaurant was fairly empty, but that's to be expected at such odd dining hours. We were hungry now and in Ankeny, and Tokyo Steakhouse is quite literally on the way back to I-35, so it was a logical stop for us. We were seated quickly by our server Aaron. He confessed that it was only his third day on the job, but he was giving it his absolute best. No worries, Aaron. We are all newbies at one time. We got some glasses of water and began to peruse the menu. We noticed the Sky Roll on the Specials board. It immediately looked like a winner. Our other choice was the Sashimi Deluxe. 18 pcs of Sashimi for $27 is a very solid deal in this economy. My favorite dining companion also opted for a Peachtini, as she does love Martinis. Our food took a little longer than expected to arrive, but I can forgive slightly slow ticket times, for exceptional food. That was absolutely the case here. The presentation was very nice, and the cuts of fish were beautiful. We especially appreciated Toro Ahi instead of your run-of-the-mill Ahi. Also present were Yellowtail, Salmon, braised baby Yellowtail, and Escolar. All of the Sashimi was excellent. The Sky Roll was so good that I wish I had ordered two of them. Such a satisfying combination of so many flavors. Well done, gentlemen. We gave our compliments to the sushi chefs.. Aaron was a great server. He provided excellent service, and was very polite. He even very carefully boxed up the leftovers for my favorite dining companion to eat later. So after four and a half years, Tokyo Steakhouse is still extremely good. We will be back again for sure, but a lot sooner than four and a half years from now.

After reading through some reviews and seeing that most of the low reviews were service related and not food related we decided to try Tokyo Steakhouse out and I thought it was good! We had Shumai, a bento box and a sushi sampler. The Shumai was great, and the sushi was good; seemed to be good quality. I believe this is a great suburban option for sushi, it's not the best I've ever had but by far not the worse. We also had very good service. They were quick and thorough, but not pushy.

Absolutely loved my experience here! I loved their sushi?? This is my first time not going for their usual hibachi grill options which I cannot commend enough! The lady taking my order on the phone was a delight, my order was ready in 10 minutes & again, the service has always been incredible - whether take out or sitting in. Love the environment & will continue to go back for both special occasions & trying more of their rolls!! Lovely!

Went with the family here for a birthday party! Overall experience was underwhelming as we were extremely rushed and felt like we were in line of the "soup nazi" episode of Seinfeld. Server was extremely impatient and everyone even the kids noticed how rushed we were. The actual food and hibachi experience was decent, although our chef did not do a lot of entertaining as we are used to with this type of experience. The fried rice and the different meats including shrimp, steak, scallops, and chicken was done well. Will not likely return here due to the service but maybe it was just an off night for them as they were busy.

We started with the dumplings, and they were outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and all I can say is... wow. The broth was rich, bold, and full of depth without overpowering the dish. The beef was incredibly tender, practically falling apart with every bite, and every ingredient came together perfectly. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful and comforting it was. Every spoonful tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful, open layout with warm lighting, Japanese-inspired décor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. It feels modern while still being cozy. To top it all off, the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Hokkaido delivered on every level--food, atmosphere, and service. We'll definitely be back, and if you're in the Ankeny area and craving ramen, this is a place you need to experience. Highly recommended.

We had a 5:30 reservation & major disappointment from the kitchen & arrival of food. We waited 41 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. My sushi wasn't cold - which made me feel like it was waiting out for a moment. I will say outside of that my husbands Mongolian beef was delightful. We never received the appetizer we ordered. I ordered the Marilyn Monroe & angry dragon - I would recommend both. To give an example of their timeline - the table next to us got their appetizer within being seated 11 minutes into their arrival & those to the right of us got their entire at the 20 minute mark (average server timeline). The reason given that our order was taking time, was they behind a lot of to go orders. Again, not devastated but for sure not recommending to any friends anytime soon. Also when compensated for this - they didn't charge us for the appetizer we didn't receive (thank goodness?). And then discounted a drink & sake bomb. Honestly as someone who's served for 11+ year an entree at any other location would've been the appropriate gesture. But hey, those combined were around the equivalent of one of my rolls, so sure.

We got spicy egg drop soups with our lunch and it had an interesting flavor. It wasnt really spicy. I can't really describe it but it was what you would expect if you ordered egg drop soup at a BBQ joint. Not terrible, but not sure I enjoyed it. The salmon avocado and shrimp tempura we ordered were good. The chicken was edible but tasted like they grabbed some precooked chicken from Costco fridge and put it on top of some grilled onions. Overall it was an ok experience. The service was great and we enjoyed the sushi.

Char Kueh Teow This dish stood out immediately which has a smoky wok hei flavor (the "breath of the wok") coated the flat rice noodles, giving them that deep caramelized edge that's hard to find outside of Malaysia. The prawns were plump and juicy, and the mix of soy, garlic, and chili gave just the right balance of savory and spicy. Fresh cucumbers and pickled vegetables on the side added a refreshing crunch, making each bite balanced and addictive. Laksa Rich, creamy, and fragrant, the laksa broth was a highlight. The curry coconut base carried layers of spice without being overwhelming, and every sip warmed you from the inside out. The noodles were cooked just right, with toppings that tied it together from seafood to herbs. It's the kind of bowl that makes you pause between spoonfuls just to savor the aroma. Satay The chicken satay had a lovely turmeric and lemongrass marinade, grilled to a slight char that locked in the smoky flavor. Tender on the inside with crispy edges, it paired perfectly with the bold, nutty, and slightly spicy peanut dipping sauce. The cucumber slices on the side helped cut through the richness, just like you'd get back at a hawker stall in Malaysia. Overall Hawker Kitchen is a gem for anyone looking for authentic Malaysian comfort food in Des Moines. Portions are generous, flavors are bold and true to their roots, and the variety on the menu makes it worth repeat visits. If you're new to Malaysian cuisine, start with the satay and char kueh teow; if you're a fan already, the laksa will feel like home.
