Because honestly, I wish it was a five-star review. So close! First, the service is 100 percent a five-star review. Such friendly happy staff. Everyone is smiling and you can tell happy to be there. I haven't experienced a workplace environment like this in a long time. Maybe because the view is outstanding. Right on the waterfront, outside, plenty of room, air flowing freely, and just stunning. The ambiance is of joy and happiness to be there. The food left a little bit to be desired. So I will use a rating system I don't usually use in my reviews. Half a dozen raw oysters, 8/10, should have ordered the grilled oysters that I was originally craving. bread and butter, 7/10, surprisingly the butter had little flavor despite its vibrant orange color. Real butter with salt would have been better. Seafood chowder with clams and shrimp, 10/10. My favorite of the three items I ordered this was the most delicious. But the experience is so amazing! And I will absolutely be back. And next time I might reserve a wood triangle because it is probably a really fun spot to sit on a cold day snuggled up with a blanket and a bowl of seafood chowder. There is a small food truck frying up French fries, oysters and making more items. You order there separately and sit in the area up front closer to the street side of the restaurant. I noticed families bringing fried goodies back to their wood tent style tables. Those tables need to be reserved in advance. They do have walk in tables which are communal. I sat at one of those as a solo diner. I noticed several of the special tables open though and I believe you can walk in for those. I believe they cost $75 and include a dozen raw and dozen grilled oysters and have a time limit. That's all I got! Enjoy life and treat yourself! SYOY!

Well, since I both like mussels and curry, I scooped that up in about half a second. Taylor Shellfish has quite a five generations of history in Washington State's shellfish business. They're a big company with over 500 employees and an awesome website from which you can order pretty much anything related to things that swim or creep around the ocean. The 3.5-ounce tin of Curried Mussels was priced at $12 and full of plenty of plump and tender mussels in a delicate curried oil. I just tossed them into a bowl of cooked pasta for a quick and fantastic dinner. Definitely a fan!

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the commercial fisheries who normally supply large…read morequantities of seafood to restaurants and other large headcount events/venues type of commercial sales are finding themselves with too much product and not enough customers. Companies such as Washington State Seafood located in Seabeck, WA over by the coast far away from the typical more populated cities in the Puget Sound have gotten creative with their selling methods. Off to the social media they went! In my case, I discovered them via an ad in Facebook. To facilitate distribution, WSS sets up different distribution "pick up" locations throughout the West Coast, primarily around state of WA, but recently extended to CA also. They also have mailing options too. The menus vary by date, pick up vs. mailing, depending on the availability and viable logistics. Thus far, I have had generic "shooters" oysters (that was the name on the website) and most recently had the Samish Pearls. I also placed an order for Purple Mountain shooters at a super duper deal of only $7.50 for a dozen! It's labeled as a 2 hour Bonus buy on the website. Score! The pickup process is very easy. Go to the location they identify (not always the same but somewhere in Seattle), give them your order number (name works too but they prefer the order number), they hand you the oysters in those stretchy mesh bags commonly used for seafood. You should bring a cooler or anything with an ice pack with you. At home, we use a shucking knife. Watch YouTube and learning to shuck to optimize your oyster eating experience. The most optimal way to shuck, we learned, is to wiggle the knife deep from one end to the next before lifting - preserving the briny water as much as possible! The taste - my oh my - it's SO FRESH! You're tasting the sea (in a good way) with every slurp of an oyster. Side note: We're simple when it comes to sauce, a squirt of fresh lemon juice and a squirt of tabasco sauce.

We picked up organic watermelon, a bottle of wine on sale, and some of our favorite local salsa, with some chips. It was a bit messy - the floor particularly ; we stepped on fruit several times ; but also it was heading towards the end of the day so probably things look tidier in the a.m. hours. Go to page for the location on Ruston Way for that stuff. This location is the wholesale and retail warehouse on 56th. Now that the PSA is completed, this IS the place to go if you're planning a meal and need a shoal of fish with which to make it. It's also the place to go for friendly, knowledgeable people who will help you with your decision making and purchase. They stock primarily fish from the PNW/Alaska. There are no worries about stinky, old fish here, as the processing is happening on location. Along with the fresh product, they also carry frozen products like squid if they're not produced locally. Their selection of smoked salmon seems a little smaller than that at Ruston, but their fish selection is more varied. The service there is top notch. On a recent trip I called in advance to see if they had 5 lbs of halibut carcasses (I was making soup). I didn't leave a name, only saying that I'd be in soon, and when I got there they'd already put it aside for me without even having a firm order. That's just typical of the help I always get there.

You're buying salmon that was sustainably caught by natives and smoked or cured by natives. All of the salmon is frozen as soon as possible so you're getting it as fresh as Tristan can manage. The candied salmon and smoked salmon are fantastic. But, the one thing I grab every time I'm at the Ruston Marketplace is his salmon dip. It's like salmon crack. Next time you need a side of salmon for the grill hit up Tristan and see what's available. Grab some dip to munch on while you're grilling. You won't be disappointed. Just learned today that Tristan will be offering a subscription service in 2024! Looking forward to that.

I understand that prices in Washington can be higher, especially since we moved here from California a few months ago, but I received much larger portions at places like Ahi Poke and Poke Noke in California. The pieces of protein in my bowl also seemed really small in comparison. On top of that, several protein and topping options cost an additional $1 or more, and I was surprised that masago/tobiko was an extra charge. There are a few tables inside and outside. We visited on a Monday evening, and the indoor tables were all occupied, but we were still helped in a timely manner. The food was good enough, and I'm glad we tried it since my son was craving poké and there aren't many spots near us, but it didn't stand out to me. If I lived closer, I might consider stopping by again, but with the drive and the portion-to-price ratio, I'm not interested enough to come back out this way specifically for Poke Pop.
