I don't know why this is getting such bad review. I've lived here two years and plan on living here…read moreanother two. The apartments are old, yes, but they are working on renovating each of them so they feel good and have everything you need. The outside looks clean and safe, there is always enough parking, and the office staff and maintenance guys are so nice and happy to help out. If I had three wishes it would be that there was recycling available to tenets, the pool area was a little more private with bushes or something, and that there was a safe place to lock your bikes. But all in all I really love living here!

First problem: a huge crack in a bedroom window (about 1.5 feet long), which took them about a month to finally replace. Second problem: the oven overheated and completely charred food. I am a very competent cook and this isn't a human error issue. It was also a fire hazard. My husband burnt his hand by just touching the outside of the oven door. Maintenance said that "When the oven's turned on, it's like the heat keeps going up". The oven was finally replaced after I lived at charter oaks for about 2 months. Problem three: the dishwasher did not work. I first noticed a problem when my kitchen flooded due to leaks in the dishwasher. Finally, a replacement came after we had been living at Chartre Oaks for 6 weeks. Problem four: Something is wrong with the pipes in the bathroom. We've been noticing a little bit of water on the bathroom floor for the past couple of weeks, but recently, water started spewing out of the tub drain and the bottom of the toilet at the same time. So now, we have to worry about a contaminated bathroom. The sink leaks constantly as well. Maintenance came to look at it, said it was someone upstairs that clogged the pipes, and told us to just "keep an eye on it". Problem five: Our freezer does not freeze. Maintenance has been out, but the problem has not been fixed. All of my frozen foods are in the front office's freezer because mine has not worked for the past three weeks. Problem six: for the majority of the time that I have lived here, the pool has been overfull and cloudy. And finally, the worst problem of all: I should begin by explaining that I am an artist, and I was keeping several drawings in portfolios in the smaller of our two bedroom apartment. Because charter oaks decided to cut corners and put a "temporary fix" on a leaky room (this according to maintenance), several of my pieces of art were water-damaged when we had a big rain. Not to mention the carpet was soaked. By my estimate, $4350 worth of artwork was damaged and ruined. Last I heard from the office, they said they were "getting quotes from professional roofers". I have had to call the police twice since I've lived here (a total of 2 months) because of noise and insanely ranting residents. I have seen police here a total of four times already. I do not feel safe here.

Let me start by saying yes, these are expensive. They are one of the very few short term lease…read moreapartments that are available in Tallahassee so they are a niche thing. Due to a divorce I needed a short term place before the divorce was final and I could get my own place. The building is very secure, both entrance and mailboxes, there are also cameras in the halls, I never worried about anything being stolen which was reassuring. The place is fully furnished and I do mean with everything, utilities are included. Two TVs, dishwasher and microwave, they also have a gift basket with the little things you will need like paper towels, toilet paper, soaps which I thought was a nice touch. The biggest thing though was after I moved out. As I have been around rentals all my life but on the landlord side I was very impressed with their integrity. Anybody who has rented has horror stories about how they have been screwed over at one time or another. That won't happen here. When I moved out I cleaned the place well. I just got my check for the return for my deposit today, they took out $25 for light cleaning. That was out of a $1000 deposit. Wow was I surprised! These folks offer a great product that is managed well and they actually have integrity and honesty. If short term housing is your need and you can afford the rent this is a spectacular place. Everything is great, from the move in, living and leaving experience you will enjoy it.

The one complaint is that there isn't a lot of parking so you are lucky if you get a spot in the garage. It is also very tight to drive in. The only other issue just like the issue renting almost anywhere in Tally is that if you need to get out of your lease, you can't unless you can sublease your room. The room had everything you need to move in. It was within walking distance to the stadium and FSU campus.

I've had an okay time at this apartment so far, but there have been an abundance of maintenance…read moreissues and in one instance, my roommates bathroom cabinet fully detached from the counter top. Maintenance came and said they fixed it but we went in to find in 1- not fixed and 2- the hinges were taken off. We had to request maintenance again for the same issue. Thankfully, maintenance is very quick to reply and come so that's nice and they've fixed most of our problems the first time. Another thing is the trash service, on the Tuesday before Helene we took out our trash, there was only two bags in the can, we came back to the trash not taken out and it's now been a week with still no pickup. We asked the front desk and all they had to say was they don't take trash if it's too much, but the only reason it's piling up is because they've continually skipped over us with no explanation. The mail room is a disaster as well. They have cameras but won't let residence view footage and won't even review footage themselves so any resident could steal a package with no action unless police are involved. I myself have had multiple issues including mailing letters that took about a month to be delivered to the recipients and Amazon packages that continually say they are unable to be delivered. I've retried about 3 or 4 times before I finally just canceled the order. My roommate had a package delivered and got a notification from Luxer that her package was delivered only to search and find it's not. We went down and the front desk staff looked and couldn't find it but also informed us that there was nothing they could do about it and couldn't check the footage to see if it was delivered or even stolen. Additionally, all packages are thrown into large bins labeled by floor and you have to sift through your whole floors packages to find your own. I often find my floor 2 package in the floor 4 bin so we have to look through all the bins if it's not in your floors bin. After the front desk couldn't find it we got back to our room but decided we needed to talk to a manager because even though it wasn't a valuable package, it could have been and it said it was delivered. We called and asked if a manager is on duty and they said there was and to come down, so we did. They said that they would look in the return to sender area when we got down there and didn't even call the manager or have us wait or anything. They looked and said they didn't see it. So even calling for a manager, we weren't able to speak to one. The front desk was kind and helpful but were unable to do anything to help us and didn't get us into contact with a manager after telling us to come down. I like the metropolitan for the events they host and their amenities are great but it really is the small things that turn you off of a place and I won't be staying here next year. The walk to classes is longer than I thought it would be, since Doak is a 5 minute walk but classes are in the other side of campus. Overall, the place is a decent place and the staff is very friendly but unreliable mail and package systems is a major concern of mine since I have prescriptions mailed to me so I would take that into consideration before signing here.

I had hoped that with new management, (my roommates told me the year prior they had around 8 different property managers) services would start to get better. However, when pest control finally started coming by TERMITES started appearing in my unit, dead and living. This was one of MANY issues my roommates and I ran into when getting services from The Venetian. My roommates have horror stories ranging from broken appliances and car break-ins to maintenance needing to be threatened with lawyers just to fix things in the unit. Personally, I've had a bike stolen off property with little help from the "security" we were supposed to have, though I believe the complex wasn't paying for at the time. The new staff are truly nice people but that is because they know how awful this complex is and what residents have to deal with. As a student, having WiFi is important but the Venetian is a dead zone half of the time due to the old copper system from the 90s. If you are a student looking to rent and paying for yourself (like my roommates and I) do yourself the favor and pay the extra 200/month to live somewhere like redpoint, you won't regret it. I don't want to sugar coat things and I could go on, so I feel even this review is being generous.
