I did not and still do not like the principal - she seems very plastic to me and usually sporting an expression like she has no idea what's going on but is doing a good job of faking it. The very first day when we were doing things "wrong" she in a very rude tone asked had we been at parent/teacher night before school started and we said no we were out of town. I didn't feel like there was a problem as I had spoken to my son's teacher before the first day. But what anyone neglected to mention was anything about procedures for dropping and picking children up so when the principal spoke to us using terms as if we had any idea what she was referring to it furthered my dislike of her. I have since learned this is her very first year not only at this school but as a principal period. That explained a lot. She's desperately trying to show off her capability but is going about it with too much effort so she looks scattered in anything she does. Parents are allowed to drop kid off in the morning after signing in at the office which includes them scanning your photo ID and being given a sticker with your ID and where you will be printed upon it. But parents are not even allowed into the building in the afternoon for pick up - not even the Pre K or kindergartners for supposed security reasons. Why it's different for the afternoon than morning is anyone's best guess. They are constantly begging for volunteers and cannot seem to figure out why they have so few when they have such a cold, unwelcoming, unfriendly policy for/with the parents. The very first week my 5 year old in his first year was given homework! This shock and astounded me in a very bad way. I even asked my father for confirmation and he agreed that when I was in school we didn't start getting homework until second grade. It's a very tedious "chore" to make a child that young sit and do a worksheet or two a night. I'm still not thrilled with it but there's not much I can do unless I do want to remove him from the public school system. I had problems with his teacher at first. My child had never been in any kind of school environment and I made this very well known to her. The 2nd or 3rd week of school she sent a note home 3 out of 5 days saying my child didn't do his work and would I talk to him about that! That upset me in about 18 different colours! What did she want *me* to do about a problem she was having with my child during *her* time with him. I was not going to punish him or curtail any activities because at age 5 he would have already dismissed anything said to him by her earlier in the day. A meeting was scheduled for myself, his teacher and the counselor. Then hurricane Ike hit! The school was closed for a week and two days. They opened a Wed almost 2 weeks before HISD did though the vast majority of teachers' and students' homes still had no power or water. I still find this lapse inexcusable! How could staff members properly prepare for a day with no water or power? How could parents properly prepare their children for school without power or water. Oh they said it was perfectly okay to not being the kids if there was no power or water on - it would just be excused absences. But now my child has 3 absences on his record that I do not think should be there at all! After the time off from the hurricane when he did get back to school my child suddenly got right into the swing of things and all the skills I'd told them he already possessed came shining through. A meeting was scheduled for me his teacher and the counselor only for a different reason this time. They asked was I okay having him go over to one of the First grade classes for reading and having him nominated for the gifted and talented program after the winter break was over? No I have no problem with that at all. I have since volunteered for the book fair {I got horribly sick too}. And have a much better relationship with his teacher and most of the staff. I am not sure if I will ever warm up to the principal ever.

While there are some positives, ultimately the cons outweighed the pros, and we made the decision to withdraw him. One of our biggest concerns was the lack of structure and classroom management, particularly with teachers Amy and Natalie (science and ELA). It never felt like they truly cared about our son as an individual, and issues at school were never communicated to us as parents. We've had our child in private schools for years and have never encountered some of the incidents we experienced here, incidents that were genuinely appalling. The school seems to promote freedom and compassion, but in our experience, that often masked a lack of accountability and consistency. Natalie, the reading teacher, was known for favoritism towards certain students (especially the girls), and this was widely acknowledged among the students but never addressed by leadership. Behavior issues in the classroom were often ignored, and there was no real structure in place to support student discipline or teacher accountability. Academically, we were disappointed by the lack of real assessment and instruction especially in reading and grammar. Grammar, for example, was only corrected during portfolio work, but not actively taught. We had to hire outside tutoring just to get our son up to grade level. After an assessment for a new school, we discovered he wasn't at grade level for math either. In summary, while the school may present a warm and progressive image, the day-to-day reality did not reflect true care, structure, or educational quality. Children need both freedom and clear boundaries, and above all, they need educators who see and support them as individuals. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. I cannot recommend this school.

Their growth -- academically, socially, and emotionally -- has exceeded every expectation. The teacher‑to‑student ratio is exactly what young learners need. Each child receives thoughtful attention, support, and guidance, and you can see the impact in their confidence and development. The campus itself is calm, kid‑friendly, and has that peaceful, "zen" feeling that makes learning feel natural. Update: Our twins are now heading into kindergarten, and the foundation this school gave them is incredible. They're already comfortable with addition and subtraction, reading, and writing -- skills they learned here through hands‑on Montessori methods. We also love how much the school celebrates community and childhood joy. They host trunk‑or‑treat for Halloween, Thanksgiving feasts, Christmas parties, Valentine's celebrations -- all the fun moments kids look forward to. My son started first and just grew so confident and learned so many things from this school. My daughter started after and she is getting this blossoming personality and just lights up when she sees her teachers. She loves school more than anything, to have your child beg to go to school, happy every morning is priceless. She grew to be a confident and kind girl and I am positive the school had an immense impact on this. I always felt heard, communication with leadership as well as teachers have been amazing. Then, were so impressed with their handling of the pandemic in 2020 (we experienced no "covid learning loss"), it was an easy decision to stay on for the primary grades. And we have not been disappointed! We continue to have truly great teachers, that you can actually interact with every day at drop off and pickup and build relationships with them. I highly encourage anyone who is interested to schedule a tour or go to one of the open houses. Not only is it a charming environment, you will be amazed at how much more they manage to cover than just the basics. There is a focus on fine arts and performances, which are so great for confidence building. But they also get into robotics, go on cool field trips, and seem to have more fun events and activities than you might get in public school. The summer camp sessions are great, too! We'll be very sad to move on after 4th grade!
