Front desk check in area, the line was wrapped around the corner, down the hall. 5 people working behind the desk on the phone and no one checking in patients. I waited 10 minutes before anyone decided to start checking in patients. They definitely need a better system of doing things. Maybe hire more people, or have at least one dedicated person to check patients in while others attend to the phone calls. read more

By far the worst VA experience in my life. Took over 2 hours to speak to a nurse. They scheduled me for a appt. -- nearly 2 months later. The day before the appt., they called and said they had accidentally double booked it and cancelled the appt. , the day before I was scheduled to come in! Calling me near the end of the day to let me know this. These people are not only incompetent but a disgrace to the veterans they serve. I was treated horribly by staff and doctors. The VA health care system is atrocious and Tomball VA Outpatient clinic is a prime example of this. Shameful all around. read more

Here's my review exclusively for Dr. Nair... She asked my husband how long had he been a diabetic, to which my husband answered he had never been diabetic. You would assume that after that statement this doctor would think past what was in her mind (she seemed to be in a hurry) and be a doctor, which is what she went to school for and what she gets paid for and advice my husband of his apparent new condition. None of that. She just brushed it off and continued down the list of lab work results. According to the American Diabetes Association, 126 mg/dl or higher is considered diabetes. My husband had results of 144 mg/dl, yet he was sent home with no treatment plan, with no guidance as to what to eat or if he needed more testing. No talk about what diabetic was and how he ended there. You were more concerned about whatever was in your head. Dear Dr. Nair, I am not a medical professional, I am a microbiologist, which doesn't qualify me to offer medical advice. However, it seems that I was able to jump right on and give my husband more advice about his diet and things to adjust immediately than you did. How is this acceptable? I will be making sure I file a complaint about this experience. read more

Trying to get a hold of the general staff feels impossible. Called 7 times an hour before closing. At 4:30 (closing time) I at least heard the other person before being hung up on. Usually it's just a quiet click. The cycle of trying to get a hold of anyone usually follows: I'll try calling, get no where, give up, forget how much of a fruitless hassle this is, then try again for the cycle to repeat. read more

It's been five years in the making but now veterans will get the special care they deserve in the North West Houston area. I stopped in to change my VA services from the South Houston Hospital location to this more convenient location. Short lines and extremely helpful staff had my paperwork handled and begun in a matter of minutes. Even though I still have to deal with the crappy VA bureaucracy of asking for an appointment today, but only getting one two months from now in April despite my request for something much earlier. I came here because I was told I wouldn't have the delays of the VA system, but it seems those are rampant no matter where you go. It means a lot to the veteran community to have this location available to us. We don't have to drive all the way into Houston or into Conroe for their VA clinic. It gives the veterans here more access and probably more availability for their appointments the location of the hospital will make it easier for veterans to have access to the care they need. The approximately 30,000-square foot clinic was formally known as Klein's Super Market building. The state-of-the-art clinic will help provide a wide range of treatments to veterans, including mental health services. read more

They schedule appointments for you, notify you of them, then the day of once you're already out of work and at the clinic physically they tell you it's canceled. It takes over 9 calls in a row in order to even get some kind of information and then to get given an extension or transferred to someone and the call gets dropped or nobody answers. read more

I just started to use my VA benefits and I couldn't be more unhappy. First it took me 3 months to get in and when I finally did get seen, the staff just kept telling me over and over how busy they are and swamped they are. I was there the whole afternoon and I only saw 5 people that were patients the whole time I was there. The scheduling worked out to about 1 patient per hour seen by the attending MD. Then when we went over my history and medications, it was like the doctor didn't want to believe I was taking certain medications and didn't want to prescribe them. We are talking about things like diabetes medications and blood pressure medications. I was asked to show proof that I was taking a blood pressure pill that isn't even expensive. Meanwhile I was told that the system is over loaded and too many people are using their VA benefits. These are benefits veterans earned the right to use. I just felt like I was being judged for being there. I have an extensive medical history and I'm fighting not to become disabled so I started using my benefits only to be told I am not wanted here and that they will take care of only certain needs cause others either take too long or they have too many people wanting to use it. Even my lab work cannot be drawn. It was ordered by the MD and it must be drawn in the morning or the results are inconclusive. When I tried to make my appointment, I was told there isn't any and I just have to deal with it. Those are the exact words I was told by the scheduling staff. I have about had it with the incompetence of this clinic. You call the nurse line , you may or may not get a call back and when you do, they tell you they will do something, and they don't. Call after call, promise after promise. They do not report abnormal findings to you unless you become your own patient advocate and ask. So if you had an MRI or anything and didn't here anything back, that doesn't mean your ok. If I didn't take it upon myself to find the results, I could have be dead by now. The one star is for the Lab. They deserve 5. They are the only ones that are on the ball and are excellent! read more

I have blood work for INR at least once every 4 weeks, very friendly & knowledgeable, Dr. McDowell calls the results to me the next day. Extremely impressed by this doctors knowledge and professionalism. Doctor Hollas is my primary and again his knowledge and professionalism is above reproach. Along with his staff I couldn't ask for better treatment. There have been times when I needed adjustments to my medications. I e-mail his staff and the same day most of the time I have an answer, I've become spoiled to there treatment of me just hopefully I don't start to take it for granted. read more

The doctor and nurses here at the clinic are some of the best they at least take the time to talk to you not the usual you have only 10 minutes and they do their best but regional does tie their hands somewhat in the way they can only get so much of what you need to get you through the day read more

I've been to a few different VA Hospitals over the years and the experience was always abysmal, disgusting, and depressing. We just moved to the area and I thought I would give the Tomball VA Clinic a shot rather than continue to spend hoards of money at my normal PCP. This clinic is awesome. It's clean and not staffed by rude, robotic-type inbreds you're used to interacting with at the VA. You're assigned a "Team" that is responsible for your care, not just someone who is available. The doctor spent 50 minutes in the room with me going over everything. She cared. It was by far THE best experience I've ever had at a doctor visit and especially at the VA. The VA would be wise to use Tomball as a template for others. More than anything the staff cared and was polite. The overwhelming response vets have when talking about the VA is that the people the government hires are the bottom of the barrel.
