We ended up taking a 30 minute video chat with him, and Matt was super helpful in explaining various options. When we realized that his typical project scope was a bit bigger than what we wanted to spend, Matt was very gracious in connecting us with other contractors and designers. Initial consultation - Dan and Xochitl came to our house, where we had in-person kickoff session. We walked around the property together, where they both carefully listened to how our ideas around how to the use the space, and indulged our numerous 'newbie' questions. They are tremendously insightful, very experienced, and remarkably patient with folks like us who are new to the process. Design phase - Xochitl took all our ideas and took a couple of weeks to think deeply about what our outside space could be transformed into. And, boy did she deliver! She and Dan unveiled their vision to us at our next in-person meeting, where Xochitl had drawn out a stunning illustration of what the final design would look like. We loved it so much, it's now framed an hung on our wall. You can talk about designs all you want, but it's only when you see it in front of you that the vision truly comes to life. Execution - The team indicated when they would be available to start our project (after finishing the ones they had already committed to), and they were true to their word. And when everything got started, it was a whirlwind until completion. I don't think there was even a single day where someone from the team wasn't on-site, pushing things forward. One things start, they are fully dedicated to your project, and you can see your outdoor space transforming everyday. Finances - One thing I appreciated immensely was Dan's transparency around the finances involved. He provided a detailed, itemized quote at the on-set, and set out clear processes around payment cadence. That left no room for surprises. Of course, as with any project, we made adjustments and changed our minds on a few things along the way. Dan immediately made the necessary changes, and gave us a clear update on how that might affect costs and timing. Communication - Dan was incredible when it came to keeping us informed on progress and answering questions. He would lay out the plan for the next couple of weeks, make us aware of any decisions he needed from us, and provide timely updates as we moved into the next phases of the project. This was definitely a huge help, and very much appreciated. Final result - This was our first major landscaping endeavor, so there was a lot of blind faith put in the team, and I'm so glad we did. Judy's landscape design--faithful to but not confined by my 80-year-old home's Cape Cod architectural style--delivered an enormous breath of fresh air to the property as well as reducing water consumption needs. Two impressive examples of Judy's magic were her (1) locating and reserving for me a raft of huge hard-to-find camellias and (2) artfully pruning and trimming two sizable flowering trees, contributing to the transformation of the front yard.
