We had Design & Build Landscapes design and build our new front yard as well as replace our back lawn. The whole process was excellent. Daniel was great to work with throughout the project. He was responsive, clear on timeframes, and quickly took care of any problems that came up along the way. His team is very good. They work hard, do high quality work, and clean up when they are done (each day). The only problem that we had was with the subcontractor that they hired to build our fence. They did a terrible job, but Daniel and his team took over and resolved all issues. Even though this was a bit of a mess, they did not complain, were very pleasant to work with, and the result is excellent. I worked with daniel on my fairly large landscaping project which included a fireplace, BBQ island, extension of my patio, irrigation, new gas/electrical line and artificial turf. I've worked with many contractors in the past, but my experience with design and build Landscapes truly exceeded my expectations. After four failed appointments with other gardeners/landscapers through personal recommendations and NextDoor - two of which didn't have the creative vision and couldn't recommend a design, one was a no show, and the fourth outright declined my budget of anything less than 100k (#%@k!!!). I was about given up and was just looking (begging) for anyone to come fix my overgrown mess of a backyard. So I started researching on Yelp. After calls to landscapers with $80k minimums and gardeners that just seemed interested in picking pretty flowers, Martin transformed our overgrown dirt pit of a yard into a super chill, virtually maintenance free oasis. Long overdue review from November 2020, but grateful to have come across Martin and his team. They efficiently executed a thoughtful design for our backyard. Our budget restricted the scope of work to mostly hardscaping (French drains, replacing various retaining walls/fencing/steps, concrete resurfacing, artificial grass) to begin with, but we were very pleased with the workmanship on these key elements to transform a previously unusable space into a clean, functional area for the kids and dogs. Him and his team helped us remove our existing lawn in our backyard, along with an old rusty shed. We then had him install concrete pavers in the front half of the yard, and decomposed granite in the back half for a vegetable garden that got fenced off with an arbor. He and his team were always professional, on time and sometimes worked over 8 hours a day to get the project done a few days earlier than quoted. We enjoyed working with him and his crew so much, that we're even having him back to help us replace a fence for us. Martin and his team were recommended to us by our landscape designer and they did an amazing job. He was incredibly prompt with his replies in all phases (including an initial budget number that was super close to where we ended up), and did keep us posted along the way when we were going over budget so we could all discuss together. We did have a couple of very very small hiccups but that did not affect my overall rating, I would hire them again in a minute. He managed to take our designer's vision and translate it into a gorgeous yard, and the job did include some big work (leveling a yard that had a terraces before, and carrying all equipment, elements and plants up three flights of stairs- we are in the city!) that he and his team performed without a problem. I contemplated landscaping our neglected front lawn and backyard for quite a few years and realized I didnt know much about landscaping at all. I had no clue what something like this would cost nor did I know exactly what I wanted to do design wise. I found Natura Gardeners (Martin Diky) on Yelp and decided to give them a call. All I could offer up was some general online photos of what I liked for taste level(modern and clean), and to let Martin know that we were lazy people and did not want anything high maintainence! Our job was pretty extensive. We redid the entire front, sides of the house and the backyard. Martin installed 2 new fences, a yard gate and redid our concrete both in the front and back. Martin did such an outstanding job coming up with a creative way to refinish our concrete and designed a spectacular artistic look for both our driveway and backyard patio area. It far exceeded my expectations. We have gotten so many compliments from the neighborbors on how nice our landscaping looks. Martin and his crew were professional, communicative and easy to work with. Martin has a really keen sense of design and you can tell he takes great pride in his work and won't settle for anything mediocre. I found Martin to be honest and a pleasure to work with. Natura did an amazing job. We talked to three landscapers/designers before deciding to go with Martin and co. We talked to several more who would not undertake projects under certain budgets. Martin turned our previously unused and impractical backyard space (it was a graveyard of plants and a poop pit for our dog) and helped us arrive at a design that maximized our space and checked off all items on our wish list (play space, clean space for dog to do it's business, minimal maintanence, grill space, eating space, relatively child proof), while staying within our budget. We interviewed three contractors, one of which was Martin, to finish our backyard. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted. Martin wasn't the cheapest but seemed to be the most knowledgeable and had the best suggestions on modifying our plan. He also seemed to understand the modern style we wanted so we decided to go with him and are very happy with the results. Not only was he very quick at finishing the work, he also built our pergola almost like the picture we showed him. His suggestions changed our original plans, but remained true to our style and in the end we think they work out well in the space we have. As someone else mentioned, he can be a bit loose on the details because he improvises as he goes along and works fast. Still, he was very receptive to our suggestions and requirements and got the job done one week early. Martin planted grass and many plants in our backyard, including three new trees. The grass, trees and most plants seem to be doing fine except for three that we're still trying to revive. We're not sure if this is something we caused. He added mulch to our backyard although we requested tanbark. In the end, it may have been better as it is lower maintenance but we found we had to clean some things his people missed when cleaning up after themselves after leaving (such as old nails, paper and wood chips). He also moved a tree to our front yard, which unfortunately is not doing that well as the evergreen has gone brown and dried up. I can't say if this is because of the inherent risk in moving a tree or an issue with how it was moved. Overall, Martin and his guys were still the best contractors we've worked with. read more

Martin completely overhauled our small 25x25' yard for around $20k. We hired him because he showed up for the first appointment, he could start within a few weeks, and he could do the design. He completed completed the job in a reasonable time (we always expect a few delays/surprises). I work from home and was able to check in on the progress regularly. We did have some gravel at the curb and in the garage for a few days, which wasn't a problem. We are very happy with the results. The fence design is especially unique and we have received many compliments. Over past 6 months following completion Martin came back and replaced some plants that were not doing well (including a transplanted orange that died) and made some adjustments. I believe there was no charge, but I had him install some planters at the same time. The only issue we have had is that the little post lights snap off fairly easily (maybe they are not in good locations). Martin has come by to replace them as needed. I am able to do all of the maintenance on the yard in an hour once a month, so we have not needed a gardener. read more

Came in at the budgeted amount (we looked at several comparable landscapers - one showed up in his Mercedes and his bid reflected this). I liked the old yard, but never used it. Now I frequently sit out on my little stone patio under the magnolia reading a book. I pull a few weeds that pop up rarely (so much easier than the prior gardening and lawn mowing). And I listen to people complimenting me on my yard (we even had a couple photographing it around three weeks ago). Martin and his crew worked tirelessly to complete a concrete paver patio with a gorgeous herringbone pattern, plus a cute picket fence and arbor for our yard in San Bruno. Talk about meticulous- I was so impressed to the attention to detail and care that went into making this the backyard we've been wanting. His quote came in way lower than other quotes, and his time frame was way shorter as well. He originally quoted a 7-10 business day completion time, and finished in 8! We also added additional work for him at the last minute (lattice under our deck so the dogs or other critters stay out), and he quickly amended the contract, added the extra work, and still finished on time! His original plans for the yard were not ideal for what we had envisioned, but Martin heard us out and changed the quote and plans to our specifications. Easy! The crew (3 guys total) was friendly and respectful too. It really made all the difference! We're looking to have Martin back out for more work down the road. Ours was a major project that involved completely tearing out the trees, shrubs, and grass in our small backyard and installing a low-maintenance, drought-resistant design developed by Daniel Noland at Flora Grubb. Because the only entrance to the back is through one of the bedrooms, Martin and his crew had to take special steps to protect the floors and walls leading from the front door to the backyard. The overall project took around two weeks and we are delighted with the outcome. In addition to installing the trees and plants that Daniel ordered, Martin and his crew installed a timed, drip irrigation system, built and installed L-shaped bench with under-bench lighting (also on a timer), and large patio of concrete pavers. The end result is a beautiful, inviting backyard that we will no doubt enjoy for many years. This was not an inexpensive project, but it was worth it. Martin and his crew did an excellent job, including thoroughly cleaning up afterwards. When removing the protective coverings over some of the interior walls on the ground level, a little paint came off with the tape. Without hesitation, without being asked, and at no additional cost, they repainted the damaged areas. We couldn't be more pleased with the design that Daniel came up with, the plants he selected, and the work that Martin and his team at Natura Gardeners did on the landscaping and hardscaping. We contacted several contractors for our job. Of those that responded, Martin was the only one we didn't have to call or email multiple times to get an estimate. Martin was very responsive to all our questions and delivered quotes and revisions within the promised time frame. His final quote was very fair so we selected Natura Gardeners for our project. Martin estimated from the start that our job would take approximately a month to complete. He was pretty much spot on. The extra week to complete were more due to changes and additions on our part. We hired a landscape designer (not associated with Natura Gardeners) to draw up the original landscape design. As expected, there were changes to the original plans along the way and Martin was able to present us with feasible options when we were at crossroads. Martin was recommended by excellent landscape designer Daniel Nolan at Flora Grubb. He and Daniel work together as a design/build team. Project involved removing an old over-grown garden, terracing the yard, installing drip irrigation system and lighting, replacing two fences and planting 6 large beds with drought tolerant plants. He designed to fit our budget and put up with about 4 revision requests from our HOA. I enjoyed his working style - he's very direct and pragmatic. He responded to feedback and took ownership of mistakes. He obviously cares about the finished product and has a good aesthetic sense. He made helpful suggestions through out the process and did research when needed. The project was on time but went about 10% over the bid due to some unforeseen retaining wall issues. A few things prevent a 5-star rating: His team was not super careful- a few items were broken or thrown away. They didn't stain the fence below the mulch line. They left manufacture stickers on all of the bed dividers they installed. And they used construction debris as filler in the planting beds. I blame most of these issues on his crew (but they are ultimately Martin's responsibility) Despite this, our garden is really beautiful and I would use him again. read more

Our back yard was a nightmare, a total loss until Martin and his crew stepped into the picture. Now we have a lovely eco- and child-friendly space that is easy to maintain even for people like us who are busy and green thumb-challenged. The only thing I would add to qualify my 5-star rating is that Martin works very informally and can be a bit fast and loose about details. That's his personal style and it suits the small-business nature of his company. I mention it because I could see his style potentially being a little unnerving or uncomfortable for people who want every detail clearly laid out in advance and specified explicitly in the contract; for me it was no problem. I intuited that Martin is an honest guy who works on mutual trust between contractor and client. He does have clients sign a simple, basic contract and he does create a visual plan before starting work (which he will go over with you), but the contract is really just to cover legal bases and the plan is very much subject to change if and when things come up. The key to working with Martin is to be open and honest in communicating what you want--he was very flexible and responsive in answering all of our questions and in tending to our concerns. The bottom line is that his #1 concern is doing great work and having satisfied clients, and he will do what it takes to make both a reality. Example: after our job was done, we got a text message from Martin letting us know he realized that his guys had forgotten to lay the agreed-upon gopher mesh under our yard, and that he would come back personally to re-do that part himself. He didn't wait for us to figure it out by having his work slowly succumb to rodents; in fact, he was there the very next day to make things right with no extra charge. Update: After seeing how much just a year of growth has done to our backyard, I can't in good conscience not give Martin 5 stars. With what he did and our budget, it is truly transformational. Can refer without hesitation. Hi, After 10 years of talking about fixing up our buildings backyard, we finally but together the budget to do it. I met with a number of gardeners and eventually choose Martin. Martin did a really great initial design for me that made it easy to take to our HOA to get thoughts/reaction/advice. This was even before he had a signed contract! Execution was incredible. I almost felt bad with how much we paid him. He worked nearly 12 hour days to get the job down for at least two weeks. With any project, there are issues and Martin stands behind his work and was quick to repair. And, I also like contractors who have clear contracts/scope of work and work to those contracts. I have no problem when a contractor informs me that my request is outside of the scope (e.g. we bought ten plants and would like 15) and we would just need to append to the contract. No arguments, no hurt feelings, just great working relationship. Finally, we have very hands on association and were doing an internal remodel when the garden remodel was happening. I was always thankful I was managing the external work as everyone in the building was extremely pleased with it. I give Martin 4 out of 5 only because I don't give 5's and I don't give 1's anymore on Yelp as I think it dilutes the reviews. (Yelp is getting to Binary) read more
