Where do I begin! I have too many wonderful things to say about Laurena (and Sheri--see the third…read moreparagraph), so I think a little background story is in order, so you can truly get a full picture of how amazing she is and why I 100% recommend that you trust her with all of your bridal hair/makeup needs! My husband and I were married last Friday 10/26/18 (woo hoo!) and several months prior to the wedding, I had booked with a different hair/makeup vendor. I grew up in Hawai'i, but now live in California so I could not plan a hair/makeup trial in advance. Four days before our wedding, I had my hair/makeup trial and the results unfortunately were lackluster. Even my family and friends urged me to cancel services and agreed that I would be better off doing my hair and makeup myself. You can imagine how stressed out I quickly became! Thankfully, this makeup/hair vendor was very gracious and understanding in allowing me to cancel with such short notice however, my next big worry was how would I do my own makeup/hair (I am terrible at this!) and would it be possible to find someone with only FOUR days until the BIG day?! With all the other details of the wedding I still had to do, this was the last thing I wanted to have to worry about... The next day, after several unsuccessful attempts at finding hair/makeup artists available, I drove to Nordstrom at Ala Moana and walked into the makeup section, head down and spirits low, and hoping to find someone to help me find makeup that I could use to do it myself =/ Then I met SHERI who instantly brightened my day with her infectious personality and sincere interest in helping me any way that she could! I told her the situation, showed her pictures of my bridal trial, and not only did she make wonderful recommendations for makeup, she immediately called LAURENA, told her the situation, and provided me Laurena's website/contact information. After leaving Nordstrom, I quickly filled out Laurena's questionnaire on her website (it reviews types of services requested, you can even upload pictures of your desired hair/makeup looks). She responded to my questions within minutes and even requested pictures of my bridal trial so that she knew what to avoid, which I greatly appreciated. She reviewed my questionnaire instantly and to my surprise she was available!!! She literally sent me an invoice and contract that same day! I had to make a few changes to the services (as a few bridesmaids made changes to the type of service they wanted) and she quickly sent over the updated versions within minutes. With Laurena's user friendly website, her quick and friendly responses to my questions, and taking the time to review pictures of what I did and did NOT want, I was reassured instantly that I would be taken care of throughout the booking process and on the BIG DAY! A HUGE weight was lifted off my shoulders because from this moment-- all of my worries just melted away. Friday, our wedding day came in the blink of an eye and Laurena showed up to the estate in Hauula (which is far and she had no problem traveling here!) with to my surprise, SHERI!! They quickly came inside and got to work on our makeup and hair. What I loved about Laurena is that she made professional recommendations on the pictures of possible bridal looks I sent to her (I am clueless when it comes to makeup!). She pointed out that the picture I sent was beautiful but the eye shadow was a bit too simple and she wanted to make sure my makeup was still natural but had that WOW 'I'm a bride!' factor. Without hesitation I said yes to all of the above and the result -STUNNING makeup and hair that I have always pictured having on my wedding day and MORE. This is not an exaggeration, once I have pictures from my friends and photographer I will upload them asap! The way she did my makeup, she brought out my features in the most beautiful way and she curled my hair in a way that had that 'Victoria Secret-esque' voluminous curls I've always wanted. I also wanted the left side of my hair above my ear pinned and detailed with white orchids and she did this exactly how I wanted. Sheri also did an absolutely amazing job on my bridesmaids! They also were so in love with how she did their makeup and hair. Phew! That was long! But a short review would not have done Laurena justice. All in all, she was extremely friendly, professional, attentive, responsive to my questions, and so incredibly talented. I don't wear makeup or do my hair often but wanted to make sure that on my Wedding day everything would be flawless, and I can confidently say that her services exceeded my expectations in every way possible. I was able to set a makeup and hair trial session 6 days before my big day. I was set up with the amazing Moana! I am a person who does not wear makeup a lot nor has great makeup skills lol. So I will admit, I was nervous. I mean, I had my share of experiences from Sephora and I was not always satisfied. So yes, I was skeptic. BUT...Moana did an amazing job with my hair and makeup trial! I loved it! She is friendly and hilarious. And she was honest with me. I showed her inspiration pictures and she let me know that the pictures I showed her were AI and reminded me that their skin is flawless and that she cannot make it exactly like the picture but she can work with what I have and make it beautiful in my own way. Last minute changes. Lack of communication. Surprise fees…read more The week before the wedding was stressful, but I didn't expect to cry the most over Delish. We were looking to book Heather, the owner of the business, and were given 2 options - a standard package to book with the team or the more expensive LUX package to lock down Heather. For the standard package, they said Heather was available, scheduled herself for our wedding, and it's rare that another bride will book LUX package on the same day and cause Heather to move off. So, we felt comfortable to go with the first option thinking they would communicate if anything changes. Nothing changed for almost a year - until the week before the wedding. We were notified that another bride is interested in Heather, but nothing was confirmed so we could still upgrade the package. We were in the middle of work meetings, panicked, and decided that we would! It's the week before the wedding and we would throw money at any stability as we knew nothing about the other artist. We took out our credit card and our heart sank when we saw "Ok so we just got booked for a LUX from the other bride for this day". They didn't tell us this was a race!? We were given only 34 minutes to decide!? We thought they'd at least have the courtesy to wait for the initial client to make decisions. Sure it's not *illegal* but it's definitely unkind for Delish to pit 2 brides against each other the week before the wedding. Our wedding coordinator suggested to Heather that she should call us. We heard nothing, waited, and only got text messages 2 days later that they would make it up to us by doing the trial at our hotel instead of their studio. Then, they charged us $30 for parking tickets, which we would not have agreed to if we knew about it. We also requested to see the artist's portfolio to get over the feeling that I was going with a fallback option. It took 4 days for Heather to say "Sorry, completely forgot to send those over". 2-4 days is not a long time in a non-wedding settings, but keep in mind that this was 1 week before the wedding. That was 4 days of me crying convinced I was not going to look my best at my wedding. We considered not tipping with all the stress they put us through but we decided that the makeup artist is not a part of the admin team, so we still did. In the end, the artist was nice but the tears and nightmare they put us through was not worth it.

FACE ON, HAIR DID!!!…read more Have you ever freaked about about your face melting and your hair getting messed up because of the humidity? Those factors come into play when you are prepping for a wedding IN HAWAII. I'm not a local and trying to find someone trustworthy for makeup and hair required a lot of research. Found Meileen and rushed to schedule an appointment with her 2 weeks in advance. She was able to accommodate me in her busy schedule. She mentioned of a special they were having $125 for hair and makeup which is originally $150. My appointment was set for 11:30am and I had to leave the shop no later than 1pm. Meileen amazes me, she took her time with applying makeup on me and did my hair pretty quick. FACE ON I don't wear a lot of makeup, heck, I barely know how to apply my own makeup. Thankfully Meileen was there to my rescue. I wanted "warm Smokey" eyes but natural looking for afternoon outdoor beach wedding and reception that carries into the night. Also, hide my "tiredness" of jet lag and staying out late attending a foodie event - I was tired! She came with her magic boxes of makeup and got to work quickly. My face had a nice refreshed and polish look. HAIR DIDS I'll admit I was scared the humidity would just kill the hair style but Meileen is a local and knew what will hold and what won't. I showed her a picture and she applied that style and made it near exact!!! Let's be real, usually when you show someone a picture they get at least 75% close and the other 25% is the effort. Well, Meileen got it very close to exactly as I want it. Half up, volume, curls that need to last all night. I was surprised how fast she was able to get my hair styled in the short time-bomb window I had. Let's say after driving in the humidity and heat to Laie from Honolulu, beach winds, ceremony to reception, dancing on the dancefloor, back to Honolulu, my hair still looked damn good by the end of the night. Loved my look for the wedding! She's dope. And if you loved what she did, add a nice gratuity. I gave her 32%. I'll be sure to look her up next time I'm in 808 when I need to get dolled up.
