I love the Ulta Beauty by my house, the service is splendid, however, I travel for my job and have been to multiple stores in multiple states and can say that there needs to be a new hire training program on how to treat customers it is always a 5 star or a 1 star experience depending on the Ulta you visit, seems to be nothing in between. The store and layouts all the same which I appreciate as it is easy to find stuff when traveling but they need to work on their front end experience with new hires. read more

I didn't even know that there was an Ulta in Kailua until we stopped by this tiny mall. I didn't really need anything, but I wanted to go in and take a peek. The set up is like all of the other Ultas. You walk in the store and prestige cosmetics is located to the left and the drugstore brands are to the right. I love the wide variety that they carry. They have brands like Estes Lauder and It Cosmetics, which I use. They also have brands like Morphe and Colourpop, which I also use. The salespeople were helpful. I'm not sure why this store doesn't have higher ratings. There's plenty of free parking. They have a HUGE selection of products across all price points including some cheaper but awesome brands (shoutout to my favorite makeup brand NYX) that Sephora doesn't carry. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have some amazing sales (like 40% off select brands) and even an entire aisle of deeply discounted merch, They offer beauty services but I have never tried any of them. I did see a lady getting her brows waxed, I've never been in here when it's crowded and I personally HATE crowds and long lines which seems to be the standard shopping experience at Sephora in Ala Moana. 4.5 stars! Good thing there's no Ulta Beauty store here in Waikiki. (insert smirk face) or else.... I'd be hoarding some facial skin care routine even more! Two of the staffs I asked question Is a bit grouchy. Though they help me out & answer my queries I can't feel the Aloha energy from them. It is just a heavy feeling in between. But the guy in the counter on the other hand is so friendly, nice & patience! I love him. He smiled & greeted me. Easy to deal that kind of energy. Overall, I leave the this location with a happy face & kilig feeling. It's a girl thing! I'd never think to leave a review for a place like Ulta, much less a negative one, but after consistently being disappointed this last visit was too much. It has been numerous times of dealing with staff that is rude. Also the place is so unkept. I saw dust bunnies, and any areas not coated in a layer of dust, were just a mess. Product knocked over or just out of place. Ultimately the worst part was the service. The cashier gave me and my mom such a hard time and straight lies about not being able to pull up my account info so I could get my points, as a solution my mom just asked to make one for herself and apply our points there and they still refused. Clearly the staff is comfortable doing whatever they please and creating false policies if they find a random reason not to be kind. Truly a disappointment read more

I absolutely love shopping at this store. They are always fully stocked and the store is very neat and organized. The staff is also very helpful and nice. Hawaii is a special place but it doesn't mean that a franchise store needs to be any different, if anything they should have better customer service as Hawaii depends on customers/tourist to stay afloat. The Customer Service that I received was terrible. The girl (master stylist) took it upon herself to charge me for a ALL OVER color yet I only sat w/ color on my hair for 10 mins...when I got my bill, yes the Manager on Duty refunded me for the braids I asked to be as my "style" but...when you make an appt for a specific service, one should have to AGREE on the upcharge should it be any different than they originally scheduled. Note-I get the same service (and braids) once a month in the mainland... I will not be going back ever and the more I talk to my friends and family they all "stay away" from that store. Only go should they need a product but NEVER for a service....sad b/c locals should treat locals better! Talking story among other stylist, chewing gum and no engaging with your client is very unprofessional..... read more

Grand Opening in Kailua on October 26, 2018! I had read about it on Yelp. I heard it on the radio. I saw it in our local newspaper. This was gonna be great because the first 100 customers would get a gift! Good incentive! From the Yelp reviews, I knew that there was free covered parking by Longs Drugs and that Ulta Beauty was in the space formerly occupied by Peir 1. Okay! When I arrived, there was a line of people already. I didn't go to the front to see how far back I was because I didn't want to lose my place in line. Eventually, the store manager distributed slips of paper with numbers printed on them to count out the first 100 customers. Yay! Very organized! The program started a little before 10am. There was a speech and some live music and hula dancers, but we couldn't see since we were around the corner. We just wanted to get under the shade and into the air conditioning! Haha! The big moment arrived and the people with numbers at the back of the line moved up and got inside the store before the lower numbers. I didn't care as long as I got a gift. Each person blindly took a coupon from a big box. There was a gift card between $5 - $100 and a discount for a service at the salon. The Sales Associates squeezed with happiness everytime a customer pulled up a coupon! It was really exciting and fun! The interior of Ultra Beauty in Kailua is massive and overwhelming. Besides products for hair and skin, there are fragrances and cosmetics from every company that you can think of! They also had hair accessories, cosmetic bags, and styling implements. There's even a Salon! It took me a while to find the kawaii Korean items, but I found them! Wow...when I have more time, I will return. Maybe on October 28th because they will distribute gift cards and coupons again to the first 100 customers! read more

My friends mom said, "Men should pay for every date night because women pay top dollar to maintain their clothes, shoes, hair, makeup, nails, etc. etc. etc. . ." While I don't totally agree with her. . . I could spend hours AND thousands of dollars in this store. And someone better appreciate how great I look after! My friend and I entered Ulta on a whim when we were walking around Kailua town after our usual lunch date. We were greeted immediately by Lani, who had a fierce, "candy-cane" inspired makeup moment happening. I complimented her on how GORGEOUS her makeup looked and she shared that during the month of December employee's of Ulta have fun themed days that they can choose to participate in. After Lani helped my friend find the perfect concealer. I asked if she could recreate her look on me. . . While she was painting my face, my friend was commenting on how AMAZING the customer service was. She said she recently went to Sephora and she felt like the workers there were trying to avoid eye contact and no one offered to help her. This Ulta definitely hired the right staff. I couldn't envision the whole look without my eye lashes curled. Lani shared that they do not have curlers available for obvious reasons, so I decided to purchase one for $6. Lani showed me a new technique for curling my lashes. . they also had some AMAZING deals. Every day this month there's a product that is 50% off. I got a Becca Volcanic Goddess eyeshadow palette, Becca skin perfect gold lava bronzer, and the eyelash curler for $50. I wanted the NARS lipstick that Lani gave me but I decided to wait on that purchase. As an Ulta member (free) you get free gifts with your purchases and I received an Urban Decay makeup setting spray. They also offer coupons and discounts but it seems that you can't combine them with most products. I will definitely return to Ulta Kailua so say hi to my new friend Lani. read more

My review is for their salon services. I've been here a few times-- for hair color, a blowout and style, and a haircut all with the same stylist, Kirsten. The stylist are friendly, they practice social distancing and wear masks. They're good with that part. Unfortunately, my haircut came out bad and I wouldn't recommend coming here for a haircut *especially* if you have thick hair. I didn't realize there were obvious uneven pieces until two days later when I washed and brushed out my hair. It looked bad! The cut looks very blunt with missed pieces that are clearly longer than the majority of the cut. read more

Every time I come to this location I am always helped and never have any issues with the staff today was particularly nice Kù helped me buy make up for the first time ever! That's right folks at the ripe old age of 35 years years young I finally bought my first make up stuff if that's even what you want to call it. Kù was super helpful and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. I didn't want anything too crazy because I don't wear foundation and I also don't want it to be super noticeable that on my make up and he was totally understanding of that and very helpful! The only issue was the girl behind the counter who thought her gum smacking and popping was okay....it's not sis! No one wants to hear you pop your gum. UPDATED REVIEW: Today, I was able to get out of the house. I no longer match my foundation. I decided to visit Ulta to check out Urban Decay's Naked foundation. Apparently it can "blur" your skin. Translation: filter in real life. As soon as we got there, we were immediately greeted. I was looking around for a few minutes before Jayme approached me. She asked if I needed help and pointed out the location of the foundation I was looking for. As I looked, she asked questions about what I was looking for and expecting in coverage. Once I found a worker to help they seemed like they were busy and did not want to help me find a foundation for me (color match) or help me find blush. if you're looking to get a horrible haircut by someone unprofessional with a bad attitude then elijah at ulta kailua is the stylist for you. not only was the cut and color he did god awful but he answered not one, but two personal phone calls during the appointment (neither were concerning anything pressing). maybe had he not had his airpods in during the appointment he could have heard his customer's requests. frankly, he is a rude and inconsiderate person who should probably pursue a different career since neither hair styling nor customer service are strengths of his. however, roxie, the manager was great and helped mediate the temper tantrum that elijah threw after receiving criticism. she is very kind, professional and helpful. she clearly has the patience of a saint. all in all, i will not be returning and i urge everyone else to consider literally any other salon before booking with elijah if they value the way their hair looks. read more
