I had reasonable expectations, coming to this place knowing the ambiance is lacking and location in the west side of Davenport. The prices were amazingly low and the service was great though two things bothered me. The biscuits and gravy were barely palatable and the advertized baked goods were non-existent while making up a significant part of the menu. My partner and I just moved into the neighborhood nearby, after living 30 years in the "belly of the beast" of foodie nazi heaven --- San Francisco. WE LOVE TOMMYS! EXCELLENT SERVICE! You are all amazing! Sure, the food is somewhat like a truck-stop diner greasy spoon, with lots of colorful, and "not-so-trendy and not-yuppie -ashionable" locals. To those who don't find this appealing -- GET OVER YOURSELF. You are not a precious snowflake. After dealing with hordes of yuppies and fashionistas crowding into trendy restaurants looking for "authentic" food, Tommys was a wonderful, refreshing relief. The real thing. I thank God for Tommys. Its a real place with real people. Its imperfect. Its not fashionable and trendy. ITS HUMAN. In San Francisco, restaurantuers will spend hundreds of thousands (sometimes millions) of dollars to create a dinning environment that is an imitation of Tommys, but they do it with snotty attitudes, better-than-thou shallowness, astronomical prices, obscure and freakishly rare ingredients, and obsessive perfectionism -- that totally destroys whatever they are attempting. Yet equally snotty, shallow, foolish, obsessive yuppies and techies crowd into these places. We are blue-state refugees that had to get out of the disneyland version of reality to a real place in a real state. We will constantly visit Tommys and enjoy its imprecations and oddities. AND REJOICE. I love the breakfast selections. Especially "The Wreck" and the Vegetarian Omelette. Delicious! Great simple coffee without the yuppie stylings. Thank you Tommys. My family visited Davenport from out of town and a front desk worker at our hotel recommended Tommy's. We were not disappointed. This is definitely a whole in the wall but the food was amazing and so reasonable. I had the Wreck, hashbrowns with peppers, onions, ham and cheese and I added a couple of eggs. It was delicious! My folks had their special which was an egg, bacon, sausage and three pancakes for $4 and change. You don't get prices like that anywhere else. The owner, Tommy, manned the register and we tried three pastries which were delicious as well. read more

This place is great. It has the feel of a small dive breakfast place but the food and service make up for it in every way. I personally recommend the eggs Benedict or the biscuits and gravy both so good. Like many restaurants consistency is a major important factor and Tommy's does a great job. To top it all off their homemade doughnuts are crazy good. read more

This place serves one of the the best breakfasts for the money in the Quad Cities. Their eggs benedict on their homemade English muffins is great. It is one of those types of places that draws a diverse crowd and is usually pretty packed. I really enjoy it. read more

This is the best breakfast spot in Davenport. They make their own breads and their own doughnuts...oh their doughnuts. It looks like nothing from the outside--a lunch counter, a greasy spoon. And there are no frills on the inside. And don't expect anything fancy. You don't get to pick your cheese on your omelette--it's American only. But this is one of those spots that's makes you wish IHOP and the Village Inn never were created. Everyone is local. The waitstaff knows what each person will order as they walk in the door. (And all the staff is left-handed, by the way). And all the food is good. Try the blueberry pancakes. We bought an extra stack and mailed it to our next gig. read more

The CORN BEEF HASH...the best I have ever had, bar none! Found Tommy's while waiting for my RAGBRAI 2015 group to finish. It's in a lower economically developed part of Davenport, just outside of the central business district, on 3rd street, but PLEASE don't let that be a hindrance to your stopping in for breakfast. I had the pleasure of meeting with the owner. He's been in business for 28 years, having started the business with a loan from his dad. Tommy said the corn beef hash is made fresh from a corned beef brisket that is also made on site. He said they go through three briskets a week. He also said the breads are also made fresh daily. I had the CB hash with two eggs over easy and biscuits and gravy, and it was the Best corn beef hash I have ever had! And the COST! Just $5.95 + tax for this breakfast. Man what a deal! They only serve breakfast (all day until close) and lunch. They close at 2 pm. The only downside is they do not accept credit or debit cards - Cash is King at Tommy's Cafe. It is such a shame I live way out of state. If I lived in the Davenport area, Tommy's Cafe would definitely be in the rotation for places to have breakfast! read more

A friend and I had breakfast at Tommy's prior to a meeting on the Rock Island Arsenal... We got exactly what we were looking for... Good breakfast food, fast, inexpensive... Tommy's is a 'greasy spoon ' in the best sense of the word... The atmosphere is not a result of attractive furnishings, but instead comes from the small town, working person environment. The breakfast (eggs, meat, hash browns, toast) was plentiful and well cooked. The chicken fried steak was especially good, although your cardiologist might disagree. The restaurant is apparently known for their freshly baked breads and homemade doughnuts; something we will return for... Good location in downtown Davenport; easy parking and access. read more

great find! don't let the neighborhood alarm you. had corned beef and cheese omelet and the wreck with eggs on top and 2 coffees. it was worth the extra money for the eggs. the best part of the breakfast was the warmed, homemade sweet roll with butter on top. huge roll, more than enough to share! bill was less than $20. excellent service :-) read more
