I have been dealing with Tomoka Eye Associates for the last 19 months after what I believe was a botched cataract surgery. I went into surgery with vision in my left eye. When I woke up the next day, my vision was cloudy--like looking through a piece of glass with a large smudge on it. For more than two months, I met repeatedly with Dr. Zobian. In the end, he told me he had done everything perfectly. After that, he referred me to a retina specialist. After many visits, the specialist concluded that nothing could be done. I then spent many more months and thousands of dollars seeking help at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, where I saw two highly regarded eye doctors/surgeons. Their conclusion was the same: nothing could be done to restore my vision. Since then, I have tried to have conversations with Tomoka Eye Associates to reach some kind of resolution, but I have been met with brick walls. If you value your eyesight, time, money, and peace of mind, find another ophthalmologist and another eye center. Do not end up like me--nearing retirement and blind in one eye. read more

Tomoka Eye Surgeon Dr. Rory Myer, Ormond Beach, FL Staff and Surgical Team go above and beyond the call of duty to assure patients are very well cared for. Dr Myer is very skilled and my recent surgeries are very successful on both eyes thanks to Dr. Myer. I am very impressed with his knowledge, skill, attention to detail, demeanor and I recommend him highly to anyone who wants outstanding, efficient, first class eye treatment. He is an excellent surgeon and when I need surgery again, I trust him to help me. I had very complicated ophthalmic conditions that Dr. Myer was able to resolve. Dr. Myer also handles emergency eye surgeries which which are handled with priority. Had cataract surgery at Tomoka Eye Associates. Had decent vision before surgery but vision had begun to be blurry so I opted to go ahead and have the surgery. Adding insult to injury, I paid an extra $4,000+ for lenses that were supposed to be the absolute best. Worst health decision I have ever made. Vision after surgery was much worse and eyes were sore and irritated. Vision still has not improved to pre-surgery vision after 2 years. Doctors did not seem concerned so I wound up going to Dr Royce at Premier Eye Clinic for a second evaluation and She has shown the appropriate level of concern. She has been working to improve my vision and comfort level, and has had some success. It turns out that I have severely dry eyes although there was no indication of that before surgery. Perhaps I am one of the small percentage that they warn you about, but the lack of urgency about my situation is unforgiveable. Apparently one very unhappy patient is not a concern. read more

Eye exam and prescription with the Dr was excellent. Overall experience was extremely poor. Prescription sunglasses were ordered at the beginning of September and was initially told 10 days for completion. Finally received a call that the sunglasses were ready for pickup at the end of October. This was after being deceived almost weekly that the sunglasses had been shipped. The customer service was horrible and was told that the manager would not compensate for the terrible experience. read more

I was referred to this office by the VA outpatient clinic in Viera Florida. Dr. Klein's office is one of the few offices that offer a specialty contact lens, the gas permeable scleral hard lens. This is the only lens which will correct my vision. No one in Brevard County, which is where I live, does this kind of contact lens. Their waiting room was inviting and very clean, the receptionist was very nice and getting registered to be seen was easy. Like all offices which examine the eyes, you go through different stages of your visit to include getting a basic exam first, getting your eyes dilated, and then having a more detailed examination of the back of your eye. The process went quite smoothly, and then I was placed in a room to see Dr. Klein. He was very pleasant and efficient and listen to the problems I was having with my vision (which were very bizarre). He took his time in measuring my eye and trying on different sizes of lenses, checking my vision each step of the way. When he was satisfied, and I could actually see clearly I was discharged to home and was given a follow up to pick up my contact lenses which were custom-made. What was so nice about this is that I travel for work, and they took this under consideration, having me call them with my schedule when I was in town, and they set the appointment up to when I was available, working me into his busy schedule when I was available. I picked my lenses up, wore them home, and was actually able to wear them for a solid 12 hours before removing them for the night; since then I've been wearing them 12 to 18 hours a day and on one occasion I actually wore them for 32 hours due to my work schedule. They were not uncomfortable, but I did have to give myself an eight hour break from wearing them the next day. The checkout process was also easy with helpful, friendly faces across the desk. I have read some of the other less favorable reviews and have come to the decision that the people that gave less than four stars were most likely nasty, angry people, upset that they had to pay a copayment or their deductible. I would highly recommend this office. The only drawback for me is that it is a 2 Hour drive from where I live. read more

Much against my better judgement, I had to make an appointment here this week. I was having symptoms of what I imagined was an eye infection and since I only ever see an optometrist, I needed a doctor suited to caring for the infection. I called and was able to get an appointment that same day for 3:20pm. I arrived at 3:05, filled out paperwork, and waited. And waited. Until 4:25, when I was finally called back to the exam room. The tech asked me four different times about my contacts after I told her that I only wear one, that it woke me up in the middle of the night with pain and extreme light sensitivity and a watery eye. I removed the contact, added eye drops, took Advil, and tried to wait til morning to call the doc. She then asked if I was wearing "them"... Again, I wear ONE. And I can barely open my eye, much less put another contact in. Luckily, Dr.Root was more knowledgeable and helpful and prescribed two antibiotic eye drops and asked me to come back two days later at 4pm to see the doc here at that time. Fast forward two days later. I show up at 3:50. I wait. And wait. And wait. Again. Until 5:00, when I am finally called back. (Mind you, there were only four people in the waiting area and one was a new patient filling out paperwork who arrived half an hour after me but who was called back before me...) Finally left the appointment two hours later, only to need to go back again three days later. Hoping to spend less time waiting, I scheduled for 1pm, right after lunch. I was the first one there and still didn't get called back until half an hour later. But it was the shortest appointment I'd had! I was in and out in an hour... at least that's progress. If it hadn't been a desperate need to see someone for the infection, I NEVER would have gone here, and I never will again! Besides the "factory-like" system in placeC I paid a $40 co-pay for every visit. Three visits and $120 later, they wanted me to switch eye care providers to them permanently and schedule an appointment for next year. Sorry. NOPE. read more

Pressured my mother to get cataract surgery. She had one cataract removed 20 years ago and they tore up her iris and it never healed correctly. She can still with that eye but needs to be careful to wear sunglasses in the daylight now. She's still got one good eye even though it has a cataract she can see fine with that eye. These doctors are irresponsible and greedy. Leave good enough alone! She's 90 years old for heavens sake and she can see fine with the eye that they want to remove the cataract from. read more

My first try I waited 90 minutes and hadn't seen the Dr so I walked out, I had to go back to work. Back today and the time they gave me for my appointment evidently isn't what they have on their books, telling me I'm 45 minutes late? That's ok they are so far behind they hadn't even called my name yet. Nurse just told me it will be at least two hours? How can a Dr office continually be so far behind? My first appointment was in the afternoon but this appointment is mid morning? Horrendous time management. No respect for patients time at all. It's like they book 3x more people than they can handle. read more

While the staff and doctor seemed very competent, they are very bad at managing time. I was taken back immediately, but then had to wait for over an hour to see Dr Meyer. When you take time off during the day to get an eye exam, you don't usually expect to waste 2.5 hours of your day. Very impolite staff. Condensending. I missed a single check box on form that i filled and she got real rude "We expect you to fill everything out, not just some". Called me Mr.by my first name several times in an impolite way instead of by last name. Found out later that they are supposed to ask you to bring a designated driver and give you pair of temporary eye shades when getting eye drops. Sent me out the door and i could not see as i drove. Purposely told me they were not finished with my insurance card when asked for it back, later to tell me i "left it" at the desk. Just conniving attitudes with everyone there and treated in a demeaning way. I held off writing this review for a long time, but I really feel I need to say something. The past several times I've had my yearly appointment it has been moved/rescheduled 3x --- each! I think this is ridiculous. I'm a busy working professional and don't have the time to waste scheduling and rescheduling appointments because the doctor (Doctor Kline) has changed his plans for that particular day or has had something come up. I'm seeking a new eye doctor now as I'm fed up with it. Unless of course Dr. Kline wants to call me and explain and/or apologize for my inconvenience. But Dr.'s don't do that. read more

Not too thrilled on first visit. My impression is that this is not a very personable office. The technician and other junior staff never introduced themselves, they just went through the numbers. 'I cant do that' the tech exclaimed 'you have your contacts in' when I initially sat down in front of the eye machine. Hay, is it my fault ? As someone who her went through a very serious infection,my last doctors called me by my first name and staff was excellent. These guys are night and day. We are also on day 2 of trying to get a call back from the Vision Center lady to order VSP contacts. She is 'very busy' and 'it is sitting on my desk'. I made an appointment for a routine eye exam and they upgraded my visit without informing me or requesting my permission, and as a result charged more than my insurance covered. After 6 months of poor/no communication on their part, I finally received a refund so I only paid what I should have paid up front. I will never go back. The staff seemed pleasant and I have no complaints about the exam. read more

I saw Dr Kline for the first time. Excellent in all ways, confident, experienced. He reversed a poor diagnosis from urgent care which had delayed my recovery from shingles around my eye and nose. His new meds showed a difference right away. Busy office, but highly recommended. read more

The best ophthalmologist in Port Orange retired recently so I was referred to Tomoka Eye Associates. After experiencing top notch service at Dr. Share's office for over 38 years, I was very disappointed in the personnel at Tomoka. I was given an appt for which I had to make arrangements for the children I care for. Got there ten minutes early for my "10 am" appt, only to be told my appt was for 2 pm, and that the doctor was not there until that time, and wouldn't be available until Friday! I even received a confirmation phone call two days earlier! Because I have to make other child care arrangements for a new appt, it'll be two weeks before I can make one. Will be looking for a more competent eye care office. read more

Wish I could give a better rating but unfortunately that is not possible. Front office desk was rude. I said I have medical insurance and vision insurance. Was sharply told we only accept one or the other choose which one you want! As I have always given both insurance cards in my previous eye exams with another provider, I was surprised. I explained there are certain eye tests that vision insurance does not cover but the medical insurance does if the dr decides the test is needed. Was not interested just said which one are you using as I only need one . she told me the cost for the eye exam on both ( both costs she quoted were incorrect by the way) I used the vision insurance. Paid the copay and lo and behold I received a refund in the mail. No explanation just a check. Taken back to see dr. Eyes were dilated Dr came in for a few minutes complaining about once again a new computer system. I was back in my car in less than 30 minutes. I sent an email to the dr through the portal asking if my eyes were dilated how was I done in 20 min. Received no response. When I checked the portal it said message completed . I heard nothing. I will be looking for a new eye professional. The only positive was the office was clean. read more

Staff was very demeaning. Overly aggressive and insulting. I felt extremely uncomfortable. Also, due to the eye drops, i was not even given any kind of temporary eye shades, just pushed out the door. I could barely drive my way back home. Those are supposed to be mandatory. read more

The staff and Dr. Myer are top notch in my opinion. I got booked for my first appointment in one week's time. The staff is personable and courteous. Dr. Myer is professional and kind. I have had both eyes operated on for cataracts very successfully and highly recommend this practice. read more

Pre-COVID I had seen Dr. Spertus two times. Second time they directed me to a bunch of odd testings but neglected to advise it would cost more. I was self-paying (not insured) and I questioned it after I paid and they were good about refunding me the amount I paid for the testing I did not request. Set up appt. for March 30, 2021 at 9:40 a.m. The office mailed me a new application to fill in even though I was existing patient. There were several questions on the application I found really intrusive and personal. As a self-pay, I made note on the application why I refused to answer some of the questions. I received two different calls to confirm my appointment. I arrived at the Pt. Orange office at appointed time and was advised my appt. had been canceled. I asked who canceled it and no one could answer my question but they offered to make another appointment then also offered to "fit me in". I said no thanks and left. Later same day, a registered letter arrived through USPS from Tomoka Eye Associates. It was a letter from Dr. Spertus advising he would no longer be seeing me as a patient - no particular reason given - but he directed me to call a number and get another referral. I decided to write him back and tear him a new one advising him I was fully capable of finding my own eye doctor and it was no loss to me not to be included as one of his patients as it is obvious he plus his staff are totally inept. read more

I just had my second cataract surgery with Dr Spertus being my doctor. Both the staff at Port Orange and Dr Spertus are extremely professional & efficient. They took their time and answered all my questions without making me feel silly for asking them. The staff at the surgery center in Ormond Beach is also extremely good. read more

I'd suggest finding a doctor that is respectful of their patients' time, Dr. Meyer is not. I wasted two hours of my day and left before seeing the doctor as there were two other patients ahead of me. I don't give my business to disrespectful doctors. read more

Took my daughter today for an eye exam and contacts. We got new insurance so we are new patients there now. Everyone on the staff was amazingly nice and the Dr. Kline was super nice too and made my daughter feel very comfortable. After going to her previous eye doctor for years, I feel that they did an extensive exam that I don't think my daughter has ever had previously. Needless to say I was very impressed and happy to be patients there. read more

Dr. Kline is wonderful! He's a 5-star! The optometry department on the other hand needs improvement. They are slow to order contacts, unorganized and customer service is mediocre at best. While the staff of the optometry department is pleasant, there seems to be some disconnect in communication between the main Ormond Beach office (where calls typically go) and the staff at the Port Orange office. When it comes to contact revisions, orders are either never submitted or delayed. Be prepared to continually follow up to ensure that orders are completed otherwise you may be waiting over a week for trial sets. read more

The Palm Coast office, and a Dr. there didn't say what anything would cost, let you think you we're trying a "free " contact , but the "fitting" charge was like pulling a rabit out of the hat.
