When I got home I got a call that they needed my Medical Insurance in addition to my VSP Eye Insurance. When I asked why hey said they needs to keep it on file, so I gave it to them. The next day another person called and asked for my Medical Insurance info and I once again gave it to them. A day or two later I got a third call asking for the same info. By this time I was getting frustrated and told them I didn't have time to keep doing this and I would give it to them the next time I was in the office. I was then informed that I had a $105 balance for testing above and beyond what VSP covered and it needed to be billed to my Health Insurance so they needed it immediately. I was never informed they were doing additional non-covered testing by either the Dr. Or the staff. Whoever I was talking to said that didn't matter that there was a balance. I explained that I had not met my deductible for my Health Insurance so if I had known I would have asked about the importance of the test and would have possibly declined them. She said the Dr. does whatever she feels is needed and the patient is responsible to pay whatever Insurance does not cover. I once again gave all my info and told her I would pay the balance when I picked up my new glasses. Well today I picked up my new glasses and the first thing I was asked for was my Health Insurance Info. I asked what my balance was and was told $0, when I asked what happened to the $105 balance I was sent back to reception where I was told once again I had a $0 balance. I asked again what happened to the $105 balance and the receptionist went in back to ask someone else. She came back and said that the $105 had been submitted to my insurance and they had not been advised how much Insurance would cover yet so they didn't know how much I needed to pay. I explained that I would pay the $105 immediately so that I could leave and never have to deal with that office again. As far as my new glasses go, I like them so far but they were just handed to me and still need to be fitted as they slide down my nose. No one offered to adjust them for me at all. I also asked for a copy of my Contacts Prescription but was told it was unavailable at this time because the Dr had forgot to sign it. While my first impression of the staff was positive they turned out to be inept, unorganized and have very poor customer service skills. I will find a new Dr even if I have to travel farther.

They have helped us with everything from reading glasses, to helping my son learn to wear contacts. They are quick to assist if we have damage to our eyewear and go the extra mile to make sure we are happy with our visit. Dr Blahnik is thorough in her eye exams and takes the time to explain what might be a concern or not a concern in relation to our eye health. You can't find a better eye care staff and facility in the Port Orange area!

It has been 55 days.....yes you read that right.... I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY GLASSES! 55 days after my recheck. This place is nothing but excuse after excuse. When you pay for something, you expect to get it, when you pay $500+ for something, you expect to get it quickly! 2 month is absolutely obseen! Im tired of.phone tag,, Im tired of "the doctor doesnt have time to speak with you", Im tired of "we dont know where your glasses are", "we don't why they weren't sent out" I deserve answers at the very least! You can't take people's money and refuse to give them what they paid for! You know what pisses me off the most? I was told I do not have an eye infection and surgery wasn't necessary just to keep an eye on things. This eye Institute was immaculately clean. They really treated me with the upmost respect and Chelsea did all my pre-examinations explained everything as she went along and then I saw Dr. Grossman, who was extremely nice and understanding about my anxiety and what I had been told the day before and did not put me through any unnecessary testing, but was able to completely reassure me that I did not have an double eye infection. I would highly recommend this office. They got me in almost immediately and gave me reassurance.

My insurance should have been better verified so that I did not spend nearly a $1000 for a procedure that should have cost less than $250. When I returned for the second eye, they were going to charge me again until I explained that I had already overpaid with the first eye. They then applied the overcharge to the second eye. I am still waiting for the remainder to get refunded. My first surgery was April 2, 2026. My second was April 30, 2026. It's now June 17th and it may still be another month before I get the overpayment back.

Dr. James Li saw me promptly for an appointment, conducted an extensive eye exam along with retinal scan, explained precisely why I was experiencing the "shadow effect" in one eye, explained the solution (wait, your brain will adjust, hopefully) and the downside of a lens replacement surgery. He was personable, caring, thorough, and really knows his stuff. Everyone at DiGaetano Cataract Services was professional and efficient. I got a next day appointment, all the nurses handling my case were friendly, warm and professional, and I walked out with all my anxiety abated. I highly recommend visiting this office for cataract issues.

Cataract surgery is one of the most often performed surgeries in the USA, and the surgery has…read morearound a 98% success rate. I am sorry to say that things did not work out well for me. Dr. Gilmer placed the artificial lens in an area which the lens manufacturer does not recommend and that caused exfoliation material from my iris clogging up the eyes drainage network. The clogging of the drainage network caused very high eye pressure that could not be relieved with medicinal eye drops. A second surgery was performed to reset the lens, however, resetting the lens did not relieve the very high eye pressure. Dr. Gilmer told me that if the high eye pressure was not quickly corrected I would lose my vision in that eye. He offered to do a laser surgery, but by that time, for several reasons which I will explain later, I had lost all confidence in Dr. Gilmer. I contacted a glaucoma specialist who performed four additional surgeries before the high eye pressure was sufficiently relieved. I estimate that I have lost around 75 to 80% of my vision in that eye. While being treated by Dr. Gilmer I was subjected to verbal abuse on two occasions and he blamed me for the surgery going wrong and that could not be further from the truth. I am in excellent health and have a very good immune system. It is my opinion that Dr. Gilmer tries to come across as a very friendly and caring physician and at first he fooled me. However, when the going got tough he was far from charming or caring. It is my opinion that he blames others for his short comings and that underneath his charming exterior lurks one of the "entitled".
