Today I bought a bag of lychee fruit at tone tai don mills area.The fruit was all rotten and no good for my children to eat.Last year I the bought the same fruit was all mold as my children was complaining.I phone the store .The lady pick up the phone was very polite ,allowed me for refund. when I returned to the store was very rude tom boy customer service woman with long hair.she was very rude and shouting at me not to buy the fruit next time. If ever a grocery store in mid-town (Don Mills) deserved recognition and profile, it is this place. It is massive. Crammed to the brim with tons of delectable eats, pastes, spices, huge variety of dried and fresh mushrooms, drinks, noodles, sweet and savoury treats. The meat section is SPOTLESS. It's one of the very few butchers in Toronto which sells fresh, not previously frozen goat. Lots of variety and good prices. The fish counter too is spotless and they have regular specials. Gleaming beautiful FRESH fish and no "fishy" smell. Chinese New Year and Têt decorations abounded including festive, happy music. Tons of sweets from Vietnam (exactly the same as I saw when I visited Vietnam), cookies, savoury snacks - DROOL. This store has items from Japan, Korea, PRC, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia. The produce counter is impressive. They have everything here including red Vietnamese dragon fruit for a reasonable price. "Furry" squash, fresh aloe, lotus root ... all those delectable Asian delights. Love this store. Better watch out for the Asian drivers in this plaza. I almost witnessed a car accident in the parking lot. It was mildly amusing to watch two vehicles back out of their respective spots at the same time while being diagonally across from each other. When a vehicle other than the two of them lay on the car horn they finally realized that neither of them bothered to check their review mirrors while reversing and both stopped. They must've been too stunned. It took forever and a day for them to both leave their spots so that everyone else could continue on with their days. In the actual supermarket it's bright and spacious with clear separation of the different sections. We noticed that there are items that are cheaper than the other Asian supermarket in the area. On this particular day the lineups at the cash were inordinately long. Another staff on a cash register would quicken up the process greatly. read more

Pretty big Chinese grocery store in this area but with a smaller parking lot. It looks a little older on the inside than your average T&T. The bonus being that the prices seem to be little bit lower all across the board and definitely are cheaper than nearby Galleria. The exact same brand frozen imitation crab was around a $1 cheaper and the medium grain fancy rice was cheaper by a few bucks! They have their own little seafood section that is its own room - you have to go through closed doors to get to it. It also has other departments like a bakery and a hot food counter. read more

Ever go to a supermarket to get groceries and realize how ridiculously expensive it is for some items? Well go to a chinese supermarket. Meat, poultry and produce are pretty fresh and cheap. The selections are pretty large and you can pick up some stuff that most conventional supermarkets do not supply. This particular supermarket is located the Peanut Plaza on Don Mills between Sheppard and Finch. The plaza is very small so that means parking is pretty small. Having a chinese supermarket means having bad drivers to go with it. Add in the small amounts of parking spots to the mix and you're in for a whirlwind. The store is fairly clean and organized but the staff are pretty nonchalant. So don't expect much service from them. The cashiers are young girls who don't say a word and just punch buttons and scan. The great thing about this place is they give bags for free, unlike the conventional stores (ie. Loblaws) that charge $0.05 for each bag. Yes we should be environmentally friendly but when you have a memory of a 2 year old and forget bags then it comes in handy. I always take advantage of this place when deciding to have hot pot since I get so much for so cheap. To make things better, there's a dollarama in the same plaza so might as well make your cheap experience cheaper. read more

Store is spacious and bright. Selection is great for a Chinese supermarket. I'd say it caters more to the mainland Chinese crowd, given that a lot of items here, especially snacks, were something I would see when I was living in China. But it is nice to see shoppers of different ethnicities in the store. Also the store is adjacent to the Peanut Plaza Mall. So you can browse other stores/restaurants in the mall before or after shopping here. Ample parking in Peanut Plaza but the spots are tiny and navigation can be confusing. When this place opened about 1 1/2 ago it was mobbed. They have the greatest selection of produce at the absolute best prices I have been able to find. They have all the traditional fruits and vegetables, and a fantastic selection of Asian produce. It is always fresh and being trimmed on the premises. In terms of packaged goods, you can find every Asian condiment your heart desires, with a particular emphasis on Chinese condiments, sauces, and cooking liquids. They have a great fresh fish store and they always have live lobster at a reasonable price (usually under $8.00). We have bought it twice and it was delicious. In addition to a huge selection of fresh fish and shellfish they have a tremendous selection of frozen seafood of all kinds. In the meat department the prices are unbelievable! Prime rib roasts (ends with tendon) for around $ 2.00. I have tried it as a traditional roast but it was a bit on the tough side. And you have to buy it by the piece. I think that cut up and marinated as Steaks it would be awesome on the BBQ. The checkouts are brish and efficient. The store is bright and clean, and well laid out. But be careful it is a busy place. It is our 'go to' place for our regular fruit and produce shopping forays. Visit this market and you will save money. read more

This grocery store is located in the Peanut Plaza. I like the location and there is plenty of parking all around the plaza and there are a few entrances. The prices are reasonable for an Asian grocery store. I like the size and the availability of items. The produce section is about half the store. The meats are at the back. You will find foods for different cuisines - Chinese, Philippino, Canadian, Middle Eastern and more. The service is quick and even where there are lineups it moves quickly. This place's prices can't be beat. Do not confuse this with T&T supermarket, this Tone Tai is of the same chain as Hong Tai and I believe Foody? While the prices can't be beat, this place is beyond rude. I once got in a huge argument with them about prices and purchases, as I was walking one of the ladies was talking about me in another language. And I just knew enough to know she was talking about me and I gave her a piece of my mind. I had swore never to go back because of that but they are kinda like the person you just can't get away from even though you know they are bad for you. This "person" keeps offering low prices that I have to keep going back for the sake of getting what I want at discounted prices. It also doesn't help that they are relatively convenient for me. I would say their vegetables (choy) are sub-quality but if you eat them fast enough they suffice. But other than that, they offer fair quality on most things. They are big so they have lots of stuff to buy too. And they aren't all that dirty, they aren't like Loblaws though so don't expect that. Someone save me from this place who is rude but prices and convenience are hard to beat. read more

It's not the fanciest, shiniest, or largest of the Toronto Asian markets (that goes to T&T), but I haven't been let down here yet. The neighbourhood around Peanut Plaza is diverse enough that they stock more variety than the typical Chinese supermarket (although it is predominantly Chinese). I've happily bought everything from Philipino sweet buns to Jamaican jerk chicken spices here. Worth a go if you're near by. The plaza itself also has little gems like Andy's for Jamaican patties and the basement Dollarama that is way bigger than you would expect at first glance. read more

The selection at this supermarket is incredible. The chili sauce aisle is something to behold. Not only are there Chinese foods, but Vietnamese and Philipino as well. There is even have a great Latin American section. A bizarre addition are products from the UK that I havent seen anywhere else. Tone Tai isnt as clean and neat as T&T or H-Mart, but makes up for it with cheap prices. There also are no food stands. One sad note though. They sell seal oil pills. Made from harp seals! I don't know if this is a commonly sold item, but I don't approve. read more

The prices are always cheaper than other Asian supermarket. I have one across my street but I'd rather take the bus to this one to shop for food. The quality of the products good too, I haven't had any problems so far with the vegetables, meat products, frozen products or a variety of snacks. The interior isn't that attractive though...but overall, this place is cheap and have a good variety of different food products you can buy :D read more

First, note that the sale items in their flyer are not the same sale items of the stores named "T&T", even though I believe they are now merged (ore is it the opposite and they separated?) In any case, the place is huge, has a large selection of Chinese foodstuffs, is less fancy than the T&T in the Promenade but more complete than smaller Asian supermarkets like Sunny, and has fast and efficient checkout, even when busy. read more

Feb 22, 2018 Don't shop at this store! Worst experience with a cashier at the check out. Soooooo RUDE! Picked up a sale item(frozen food) and the cashier charged at a regular price and I told her that it was marked as a sale $9.99 to $6.99. She said NO and I told her again but she NO again. I told her to go or call your floor staff to check at the frozen section but she wouldn't. Instead she ask me if I want the item or not. She would't even talk to me or face me after she told me to go to the service counter to verify the pricing issues. Never experienced this kind of attitude towards to customer at any other supermarket. NO service mind and RUDE. * Talking LOUD in Chinese in front of customer. I will not visit this store again. The customer service is rude Asian girls who refuse to listen. Buyer beware - they will NOT honor their exchange policy. Some produce I bought from them tasted bad. Brought it back the next day to exchange and they said "it looked good to them" and refused to exchange it even though the policy clearly states exchanges for fresh produce allowed within 24 hours. SOLD ME EXPIRED ROTTING FISH, REFUSED TO BELIEVE THEY SOLD IT TO ME, TREATED ME LIKE A CRIMINAL, INCREDIBLY RACIST STAFF. I bought 2 prepackaged Salmon and fresh tilapia fish. I was on the phone at the time and forgot to check the best before dates on the prepackaged fish. When I got home I realized the Salmon smelled bad so I checked the dates and realized one expired the same day and the other 1 week ago!!! It was after 9pm and the store was closed so I decided to bring it back the next day after work. First off, the staff does not like non-chinese speaking people. They are ALL incredibly rude and blatant in this regard. When asking for assistance many will say they don't speak English but you know they do. They understand every word. There is zero customer service. When I brought the Salmon back the cashier called the manager over and although I don't speak mandarin I do read body language very well. The manager not only didn't believe I bought it there but he thought I was trying to scam him by bringing Salmon from home with the exact prices of $8.84 and $8.61 to return while keeping fresh ones at home! Who has time to do nonsense like that??? He spends a good deal of time ignoring me and arguing with the cashier. All I wanted was to exchange it for fresh-not-expired Salmon. The cashier gives me my money back instead. I take my money and go to their fresh fish market to get the Salmon... the manager not only FOLLOWS me like I'm a thief, he yells at the butcher to give him the label so he can write "NO RETURN". That's when I yelled at him and said " I only returned the fish because you guys sold me rotten fish. I bought it here! You don't believe me, check your cameras, you'll see me!" That's when he backed down and walked away. I was so mad. In my job 80% of my clientele is Chinese. Never do I treat them with this kind of behavior. The worst staffs I had ever seen. They are very rude and racists. When me and my friend went for purchases there was an on going free snack promotions. The lady was offering the snack to every people talking in their language but not us. We were just standing besides her. Also during payment the staffs were talking something in their language and made some expressions. I would never go there again. Better to go in no frills, metro or food basics. read more

I wish I could give 1/2 stars. This one is a 3.5 star place. Its decent but not great. It has a lot of products but nothing much that sets it apart. Head South to Sunny Supermarket and you'll see some of the competition that they're bench marked to. I've never bought meat from them and I have a thing against buying meat from places where they use red light. Check under the meat counter and you'll find most of the bulbs are red, this is done to make the meat look fresher. The produce area is decent but not great. Overall, its an average grocery store. They do try and for that I think that they deserve another 1/2 star but not a whole star. read more

I'm a regular customer. I shop at Tone Tai 2 to 3 times per month with my parents and grandmother. Today I had a couple of experiences that made me think twice about coming back. I bought 3 ceramic spoons ($0.30 each). In the checkout line, one fell on the ground and broke. I didn't want it, so unthinkingly I just put it aside and went to check out with the 2 undamaged spoons. (My bad, I know... but they were so cheap I didn't think much about it.) At the check out, the cashier actually left her station, went to retrieve the broken spoon, brought it up to show me, and said to me that since I broke it, I had to pay for the broken spoon as well. I was embarrassed. I know it's my fault, but now she was humiliating me in front of my family and the other customers in line, making me look like a cheat or something. I thought to myself, "You're getting your $0.30, but you embarrassed me, and it cost you my good will. You could have just let it go." To make things worse, just before me, my mother had checked out with a box of mangoes. She took the box as is, but when the cashier rang the item and saw that it should be 18 mangoes. She stopped, counted the mangoes and found that there were 19. She pointed this out to my mother and made her feel like she was trying to sneak an extra mango. My mother was a bit speechless and could only reply that she just took the box as is. The cashier took out one of the mangoes and when my mother asked her to take out the less ripe one, the cashier didn't listen. After paying, my mother examined the mangoes and found that one was black! She showed the cashier, who exchanged it for the one she took out. So there was no financial gain for the store, my mother was embarrassed and everyone in line saw that they sell black mangoes at Tone Tai. How hard would it have been for them to let us pass without paying for a broken spoon or with one bonus black mango? We are not thieves or deceitful people. I don't know if this kind of harsh scrutiny and ungenerous, unkind behaviour is store policy, but as a business strategy it's not the smartest. They gained $0.30, but we will probably shop less at this store from now on and they have cost themselves about $100 for each lost visit when we choose to shop at TNT or Foody Mart. That will become hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars in business lost over time. I hope it was worth it. read more

ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. the cashiers only speak to the Asian customers or constantly talking away to the cashiers, but never to you. They don't even let you know how much you owe. Sometimes they are so busy yapping that they double scan the item. And then make it a big deal when you want them to return your money. The stock people pretend they don't speak English (or maybe they don't) so they don't have to help you or they tell you to go find the next person because they are busy restocking. I hate to remind them that I am the one who pays their pay cheque. No other Asian store is like this. I only go to Tone Tai peanut plaza only in a pinch. I usually buy fruits and packaged food products at Tone Tai and their prices are very reasonable. This morning I was going to buy a bag of bbq ribs (5.9 pounds on special @ $1.99), at check out I realized the butcher charged me regular price (at $3.25), the cashier asked me to go back to the meat section and have it corrected. So I went back and another butcher assisted me, but as he weighted the meat with a different scale, the weight of the meat turned out to be different at 4.65 pounds, so he gradually added pieces of butcher paper onto the scale to put the weight back to about 5.90 pounds and issued a new price tag based on $1.99 per pound. I just didn't think it's right and didn't buy the meat. First of all, how would i know which one of their scales is correct? And as a customer, I don't want to pay extra for a stack of butcher paper because of differences(or problems) with their weigh scales. I 'might' shop at Tone Tai again for other food, not meat anymore. read more
