Dr. Avakian is great, always a short wait, they have x-ray equipment on site which makes everything nice and easy.

I had a great experience with Dr. Avakian. I highly recommend. He is very humble and caring person.

First off, the ladies in the office are great. It's the fact that the "toenail bed removal" wasn't performed well. That's what makes this bad. The Dr. completed the procedure and it seemed to heal ok until weeks later when the nail started growing back, only this time, into the side of my flesh. It still hurts. I don't even know what to do now. I don't even know if I should go back and get charged again for a "fix" of the initial procedure. read more

I made an appointment online over the weekend for first available due to diabetic foot pain, the office called me on monday and confirmed my appt for friday at 4:30, then on wednesday I get another call if I would like to change my appt. due to it being on a friday. I now have to look for another podiatrist to go to last minute extending my pain into next week. Unprofessional to confirm an appt then call patient to cancel to leave early on friday. Not a good impression/sign this office would prioritize patient care. I won't be going to this office, it's probably why it's been decades since having quality recognition. I will go to a board certified podiatrist moving forward. read more

When my daughter was experiencing severe foot pain, this office failed to prioritize her care and expedite the process of scheduling an MRI. After our 1st visit there the doctor himself seemed nice. He gave her insoles that I paid $50 for - and did a quick ultrasound. He gave me a written MRI order only. But after the visit things started moving too slow for my daughter's urgent foot pain need. I contacted this office on three separate occasions to try to expedite the MRI order necessary for an accurate diagnosis. However, no one would schedule the procedure unless the ordering doctor's office reached out to my insurance directly. I emphasized the urgency due to the severity of her pain and the fact that she was missing school because she couldn't walk. Despite this, no action was taken. During the first call, I was told to come in, and while the front office wrote "STAT" on the referral, no further action was taken to expedite it. Despite having PPO insurance, my provider requires pre-authorization for MRIs -- something this office never initiated. My second call was on Monday, 4/7 at 4:38 PM, again urging them to contact the insurance and help move things along. The staff member I spoke to responded casually, saying, "I will call them on Wednesday," which I found dismissive given the urgency of my daughter's foot condition. At that point, I took her to urgent care, where she was treated promptly and with compassion. They addressed her pain, provided her with an orthopedic boot to stabilize her foot, and helped manage the swelling -- allowing her to at least return to school. On my third and final call to Avakian's office on Wednesday, 4/9 after just 1 PM, I was told once again by the front office that they still hadn't called my insurance, but that it's "in the works." When she said it was "in the works"! Almost dismissing my phone call again... That was the last straw. I went to another podiatrist elsewhere and was able to get an MRI ordered and completed THE VERY SAME DAY -- without having to make a single additional phone call to anyone. I was so relieved to actually get the help I needed to address and dx my daughter's foot pain issue. *Because of the lack of urgency, poor communication, lack of compassion, and the way we were put on the back burner, I will not be going back to this podiatrist. They are available for casual needs only. They are only open MON, WED, and FRI. This is not a good place for urgent matters. read more

I had gone to get toenail fungus taken care of with the lazer machine back 9months ago. I paid $400 and was very hopeful it would clear it up. I wasn't expecting 100% but at least noticeable. I've reached out to see if there was any way of getting a few treatments since it was a failure but was told I would have to pay half price of $200. I'm disappointed I spent $400 on something that was very highly talked about in the office and had 0 noticeable results. read more

The doctor was great. Was attentive to my issues and diagnosed my issue pretty quickly. Office was clean and organized. Front office staff was friendly and helpful. Saw Jay's comment about pricing. I have been to another podiatrist and the prices for service were very similar. That's just the cost of seeing a specialist and getting the necessary testing to identify the issue. I have recommended Dr Avakian to a couple friends. Did not realize he was on yelp until today when I googed to find his number to give to another friend. If you have foot pain, go see him. I waited months before seeing a dr. and my only regret is not resolving the issue sooner! PS - Noticed something really nice. An elderly lady with a cane was leaving her appt. I've never been to a podiatrist so I had no idea what to expect, but the office of Dr. Avakian definitely exceeds all my normal doctor office expectations. It's super clean, in a convenient location and the support staff is super friendly and really accommodating. Dr. Avakian was very knowledgeable and really listened to me as a patient. Just had my first visit with Dr. Avakian. I am amazed in such a good way. I have been suffering with foot pain for years and you might have seen my review of another podiatrist who kept telling me to come back in two weeks and yet never did anything. Dr Avakian immediately gave me cortisone injections, quite painlessly I might add. With that he gave me hope that I might be able to walk without searing pain after a few weeks. I was in tears. I actually have purchased an electric scooter because my feet hurt so badly and to think I might not need it. I'll keep you posted here as to how it works out. So far I really like this doctor. Oh! And his staff seems fabulous also! Just a thought: why can't all Dr's and their staff treat you like this. Too often it seems as though we're bothering them. Just sayin'. read more

I never do reviews but in this case I feel that it's necessary. Last January 2019 I was finishing my final semester of graduate school and had insurance through the school. During winter break I decided to use my insurance to see about a bunion situation that was becoming painful. As I walked into the office, initially I was not greeted by the two women in the front office, in fact I was looked up and down as they continued the conversation. When they finally ask why I was there they reluctantly asked me to fill out paperwork etc. Although I was disappointed by the lack of attentiveness with these individuals, I figured, I've already taken an Uber there from school etc. didn't make sense for me to not have the foot consultation. As I waited for the doctor the women now three in total, continue to talk and talk about television shows and a bunch of other things that pertain to their personal lives. When I was finally seen by the doctor he quickly look over my foot ending the consultation in 10 minutes time, explaining if I wanted to get orthotics for my shoes we could set up another time. Feeling satisfied with this I proceed to schedule a follow up appointment and pay my $20 co-pay which I do in cash to the receptionist. She takes my money I say goodbye as I'm walking out the door she calls me back in and says that my insurance isn't going through. I am confused by this and also her tone which was accusatory, as if I was a criminal (why would I go to a foot doctor for fun, Uber there etc...if I wasn't sure I had insurance?).. I quickly call my school to find out what's going on and they apologize letting me know that, before each semester they have to re-submit all the names of those who have insurance before the semester begins, so it seems as if you don't have insurance for winter break but you actually do. To me this policy with the school is odd and frustrating but reasonably fixable. As I do not want to have to pay $180 for a 10 minute session that I already paid $20 co-pay in cash for I quickly called the insurance company to get the situation resolved. The insurance company tries to reach out to the doctors office, they tell me that the receptionist had an attitude with them and basically pretended, it seem to them to take down their information. I submit multiple confirmations/ correspondence etc from my insurance company to the doctors office, all completely ignored. Finally, I tried reasonably to call the doctors office with my insurance company on three-way speaking to a receptionist who again seemed to not care about the situation at all (not wanting to take any information or hear us, also having an attitude confirmed by my insurance company representative) all we wanted to do was resolve this and have them send the bill to the insurance company which we repeatedly stated in every message email etc. The doctors office continues to disregard every single thing we have done to resolve this I am an artist and recent graduate student who just tried to get my foot checked out. I feel disappointed and saddened by The lack of organization of this office, But I'm so grateful for University foot and ankle institute, there I was treated with respect And now have orthotics that are helping my feet. read more

Even though I was a new patient, Jeannine still got me in the next day! Dr. Avakian was kind, caring, a fantastic listener and explained that I had plantar fasciitis. Good doctor, friendly staff, Janine was great, but pricing was over the top, 1st visit I was charged $749.66 for just the office visit, 2nd visit I was charged $445.00 for office visit, which didn't include anything but walking thru the door. Spent about 20 minutes each visit and total charges were $2249.32 for a cyst that he injected with cortisone and an ultrasound on the cyst. Then four months later the cyst came back. Needless to say even now that my deductible has been met, I won't be going back there as I have lost my trust in their billing practices! When I called Janine she was nice and wrote off the 202.12 balance of the bill that I hadn't paid yet which I appreciated, she was very nice and apologetic read more

I have been going to Doc Avakian for a few months now. It has been a tremendous experience from start to.... well I'm not finished yet but you get the point. I have had multiple knee surgeries including a total replacement in Feb 2016. I've been limping for years and years and my hips are next as a result. But between Doc Avakian himself (and the wonderful orthotics he prescribed) and the therapeutic massages from Shelley I am improving all the time. The staff is friendly. Dr. Tony is good too. Comes straight to the point. The location is good but quite a way to go on NewHall before you arrive. The reason for low rating is their fees are high. The rates are more than a dentist or a specialist. The Doctor spent not more than 15 minutes and they billed more than 400 for such a short duration. The expenses for the xray are 200 or so. I do understand that you don't have to worry about paying the entire amount but sometimes it is a question of being fare in what you do for the community. read more

In the summer of 2015, I had a great deal of pain in both arches and a friend recommended Dr. Tony Avakian. I am so grateful she told me about him! He treated my tendonitis with a conservative approach to include PT and orthotics. I always prefer to take a more conservative option to resolve medical issues unless something more invasive is absolutely necessary. Within a month or two I was back in business! Unfortunately, another year later, I'm back in his office with Plantar Fasciitis. Again, Dr. Avakian supported my choice to go the conservative route with PT and massage. It's been about 2 months now of regular treatment and I am doing much better. Dr. Avakian is very empathetic and listens closely to me as his patient. His staff, too, are wonderful. Jeanine at the front desk always works hard to accommodate my schedule and is flexible when things "come up" causing me to reschedule or otherwise not make a scheduled appointment. She NEVER gives me a hard time. Kate, one of his physical therapists, is not only an extremely competent therapist, she's a "hoot" as well. I always leave with a smile on my face after spending a 1/2 hour with her. She's funny, warm and an absolute treasure. Dr. Avakian's other therapist happens to be his stunning and charming wife. She, too, is thoroughly professional yet engaging. Just a class act all around. My son has Planter fasciitis and flat feet. Dr. was quick to do ultrasound to check the inflammation and diagnose his planter fascitis and was also measured for inserts to help with both conditions. Found out he has been wearing one size too small of shoes. I liked how he handled his condition. I went to see him for myself for my peripheral neuropathy and both of us are doing physical therapy.
