I used to love Tony when he had his Irving, TX Salon off MacArthur in Coppell. Tony was humble, loving and passionate about his clients getting the best work at a fair price but he met his wife who took over and controls everything. She is so greedy and dishonest. I tried to tolerate her because of Tony but my hair was never healthy and took a couple years to get it full and healthy again She forces products on you that you don't need and I tipped 25% on top of product cost but you don't tip owners or for products. There is a true reason why all the salons closed besides one and it's because of people not liking how they became so greedy and Tony stopped caring about his clients and stopped being passionate about his work over the money Reason he's hurried to get to the next person is to cash out. I have curly hair and asked to get my hair trimmed up before a wedding I was invited to go to. I asked for the front to be cut of an inch and the sides faded, the barber shop felt professional however, they cut the sides of too high and cut it too short. My hair now looks stupid and am never going there again. read more

First visit- I had my hair colored in February 2021 - I was one of two people there that day and they did a nice job. So, I called to make an appointment for a touch up of my roots on May 1st. I made an appointment for 12..and shortly after getting off the phone they texted me asking if I could come now 0930. I must say I was surprised that I could get a same day appointment on a Saturday. I arrived 30 minutes later and there were clients there. Trinni and her son (not sure if he is a licensed colorist) were doing color on clients. Tony cutting hair, and their teen children daughters and younger son were helping. I felt there were way too many clients for them to be attentive. Trinni proceeded to color my roots after I waited for 30 minutes...but while she was talking on the phone about mangos to someone... she started coloring more than just the roots. Then...she kept me under the dryer much longer than I have ever been with any previous colorings..without checking on my hair...I spoke up twice and she said it was fine. She finally came and checked it and said a few more minutes restarted the dryer. I lifted the dryer off my hair because I was burning and knew it was way to long. Again, they never checked it.. I had to let them know the timer turned off. Then she had her children do my toner and deep conditioning. She got on to her kids because they left the toner on my hair too long. I was impressed that one of her daughters were able to remove my foils with one hand, while texting on her phone with the other??? Then... when I sat down in front of the mirror for Tony (her husband-co owner) to cut trim my hair. Clumps of my hair came out when he removed the towel. I was freaking out.. clumps and clumps of my hair was coming out... I nearly burst into tears!! I told them this has never happened to me before, and I have had my hair colored many times. He said it was ok that it's normal. Trinni said it's ok also... Not OK, it was horrible!! Tony proceeded to brush my hair and I could see in the mirror he was putting the clumps he was brushing out into a towel in his lap, trying to hide it.. he folded up the towel with my hair inside it and placed it in a bin. He then proceeded to blow dry it trying to hide the multiple areas of seriously fried off hair. I told him to just stop...as I did not want to cause a scene, and again I was ready to burst out into tears. They charged me $180,00 for a root touch up, toner, cut, and conditioner.. and my hair is absolutely awful!!! Foolish me I paid it... because I did not have the fighting strength to argue with them without completely losing my composure...but I will be filing a complaint with the licensing board. I am still in shock over it and literally cried all day yesterday. I know it's just hair and it will grow back... but the way they were operating this Saturday, like an assembly line... with no respect for their clients time and appointments tying to manage all of us at the same time..is 100% unprofessional!!! read more

I've gone twice for a quidad haircut. (It's a curly hair specific cut) The first haircut was good. Not awesome but a solid 6-7 out of 10. The second was about 3-4. I went to my former stylist to fix it. My huge concern was how tony didn't seem interested at all in what I wanted or what my current haircut looked like before they washed it. He just met me at his chair after someone else washed my hair and started talking about how great he is. How he invented the quidad haircut, how he's the greatest cutter of hair and then proceeded to check his texts and text back in the middle of my cut! He never asked me about how my day is going, no trivial chit chat to show interest in me. Just blah blah blah about himself. Sigh. Done w that guy. read more

Tony is a no-nonsense stylist. And he's an expert at cutting curly hair. He's worth the drive alone. His assistants do everything else, oftentimes leaving you feeling like you've been passed off to someone else one too many times. Bring your big wallet. The full-size product and service upsells will cost you a pretty penny. And more. I'd prefer to have one assistant during my visit, and to be offered smaller sizes of new products - or at least given an option. Once I use the product at home and like it, I'll buy the larger size next time. That way I'm careful with the investment into my hair care routine and don't end up with products that I don't like - collecting dust. Everyone is pleasant, nice, and helpful in educating you in maintaining your look at home. That's a big bonus. The salon is clean and organized. Parking was easy, as was accessing the location from major roads. Overall I'm happy. My wallet isn't. Hopefully I've gotten everything I need and will only get refills in the future. If your hair is curly and needs help - go here. But be prepared to say NO to product upsells or to bring a bigger wallet. read more

I went to Tony a few months back. Really loved what he did. But the last few times I've been there it's like he's more interested in hurrying up and getting to the next person. I told him I needed. Lot cut because my hair has grown out and I was hating it. He city barely anything and didn't even touch the front part of my hair. The part that people see when they first see me. I even had to remind him. Hey I have bangs. $55 for something I'm going to have to go somewhere else to fix. I'm sorry Tony. But you need to pay more attention to your clients. I had my haircut and colored at the old location and was terribly disappointed. First it was like an assembly line. One person washed my hair, another colored it, another cut it, and yet another styled it.. I told the colorist exactly what I wanted (chunk highlights and lowlights) and he told me he thought thinner highlights would look better...I still told him I prefered the thicker stands of highlights but in the end he did exactly what HE wanted... it didn't even look highlighted just colored. ..and..I had to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time with no explanation or apologies..they just kept telling me 5 more minutes.... read more

I've gone to Tony off and on for about 10 years at his various salons. Here's what I've learned. Sometimes you have to make him stop and understand what you want - don't just yes him. Sometimes the chit chat isn't there, and it feels like a hair factory, not going to lie. Do you want to look amazing, or do you want warm fuzzies? I've been coming here for 10 years. And Tony is the only person that can cut my crazy wavy curly hair right. I live in San Francisco, CA now and I still fly there every 6 months for my hair cut bc no one else seems to get it right. Tony always has to fix it! His salon is a bit different, as in he has different people doing the hair washing, blowing drying, then he cuts. Which I think is totally efficient. read more

I went to Tony Cao after a recommendation from a friend who also has curly hair. The shampoo was great and like most higher end salons they recommended a deep conditioning treatment and I agreed. Then they asked if I wanted to get my eyebrows waxed and I said yes, this is where it started all going down hill. I have NEVER been burned while getting waxed. My eyebrow is fine, but my lip and chin were burnt very badly - as in missing skin all across my chin (which I typically don't get waxed). OUCH! Next I Was told to sit in a chair and wait for Tony to cut my hair. He was working on someone else and I was the 2nd person waiting. While I was waiting his niece, who also did my wax, came over to brush out my hair and make some product recommendations. I must have had sucker written across my face bc I bought both products she was peddling. An oil and hair mask to be applied once a week. She did say that with any 2 product purchases that my deep conditioning treatment was free I waited about 10-15 minutes before he finally got to me. I was impressed with the Ouidad cut. He took about 4 inches off and thinned my incredibly thick layers. Which was great. It didn't last very long either. Then his niece came back again to style my hair. She again suggested products and when she saw my not so willing face she said I at least needed to start with the 3 essential products. Sucker again I agreed. Once checking out I told the lady that I didn't need all of the "essential" products, but she talked me into 2 of them so 4 products total - bringing my bill to just over $250. As I was looking over the credit card receipt she said she would print an itemized receipt after this one. So the cut was $85 and waxing was $35 and a ton of money in products. I probably will go back for another cut, but I will know to have my game face on when it comes to the up sales. read more

I've been coming to Tony Cao's for around 8 years now. Yes, the prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for. My color, Brazilian blowouts, and cuts have always been stellar. I appreciate their style of running the shop, which involves many different people attending to the steps along the way. Tony does all the cuts. First time going in. The hair washing was great (very nice guy) and then I had to wait for Tony to finish up with a client. He began the Ouidad cut and had to stop cutting my hair to deal with another client. Apparently, the mother of the client wasn't happy about the hair style that another employee had done and made Tony fix it. Then, Trini began styling my hair and pushing me to buy all their products, as she immediately went to the next client. I did buy 4 products and my bill was about $170. I felt like my cut wasn't complete, especially my bangs, and I was rushed throughout my entire experience there. I am not sure if I want to go back. If I did, it would be for the Ouidad cut ONLY and not buying the expensive products. I can get the same effect with cheaper ones. read more

Tony has been cutting my hair for several years now and always does a great job. I've been butchered a couple times by the Supercuts of the world and won't step foot in there. It doesn't seem that hard for a normal men's cut, but I have thick hair and a cowlick that must be a problem for some to cut. But not Tony. I don't have to tell him anything and he cuts it great. Tony's not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. And you'll get an awesome haircut from Tony. read more

I went to this salon to have my curly hair blow dried straight. I was quoted $30, and then during the service Trini tells me that it'll be $40 since my hair was so thick. I was so upset how they feel like they can increase the service price right in the middle of service. Secondly, as Trini started to blow dry my hair straight...her other scheduled client walks in (I had called 30 minutes prior to my arrival to schedule the appt, which makes me a scheduled appt too) and Trini tells me that she has to attend her other client. So I am just sitting in their chair with a brushed out fro!! So their assistant (some really nice guy, Kevin) comes by and finishes up the blow dry. I was so peeved about this and found the flip flopping between clients unprofessional and thought it was deceiving how Trini decides to change the pricing in the middle of the service. I should have just walked out, but I needed my hair done. Anyways, I would NOT recommend this salon. The salon looks very Nice, but I'm sure they spiffied up the salon to compensate for their lack of character and quality of service. I made an appointment earlier in the day and went in right at the time I scheduled. The lady at the reception nodded me to the shampoo chair, where I waited for about 10 minutes, and in the process was splashed several times by someone washing their hands on the shampoo bowl. The lady who shampooed my hair was friendly, but the other staff was really rude to her and I felt bad for her. She sat me down at a chair where I was to get my haircut and I waited there for another 15 minutes before the hair stylist came over. I told him what I wanted but he basically ignored everything o asked for and began doing what he thought would look best, adding that my bangs made my face look chubby (which they don't). Then, he straightened my hair so I had no idea what it would look like in its naturally curly state. After I payed quite a hefty price and was turning to leave, the stylist turned and said loudly to one of the other staff members, "Her hair was terrible!" I will not be returning to Tony Cao - they are overpriced and have a severe lack of customer and staff respect. read more

Worst salon experience in my life. Save your money and run away! I'm new to DFW and decided I wanted the Ouidad cut for my curly hair. My hair had lost some of its curl due to coloring it and I wanted to see if I could restore some of my curl. I came in, they washed my hair and were very rough with it, pushing and pulling on my hair, splashing water everywhere. They told me to go have a seat anywere. Ok, not very pleasant already. The assistant comes over and brushes my hair very fast and rough. Then Tony comes over and says my curl cannot be restored. He still proceeds to give me the Ouidad cut and charge me the $85 price tag. Nice. The assistant comes back when he is done and blowdrys my hair with HER HAND not even a round brush. She used no product and curled it with a flat iron. My hair is puffy and frizzy and all the things I tried to avoid doing to it in the first place. I had no words for them as I was in shock that this supposedly Ouidad certified salon knew very little about how to treat curly hair. read more

I loved Tony & his cuts but the hair extensions were awful! I paid two times for tape in extensions and chalked it up to me not liking the tape style. After less than two months, Trini talked me into $2000 fusion extensions. After the first wash, they were coming out. Tons of shedding. I went in at one week & Trini told me I was brushing wrong even though I bought the special brush & watched online videos on how to care for the hair. Then she told me i needed MORE???? Within 2 weeks they had almost all came out. I was humiliated at work and in public. They should have lasted 3-5 months. I paid $800 somewhere else and they have lasted over 3 months and none have come out. Horrible experience. Always pressured to buy more by Trini. Not to mention their Neice who worked there (fired since then) was asking me for cash tips under the table saying they never paid her tips. $2000 on fusion extensions fell out in 2 weeks and the tape lasted a month.
