Everybody at this office is friendly, and Dr. W has put up with me when no other doctor in my experience ever has. Sure, there is a long wait here sometimes....its a walk in clinic lol what do people expect. I had my monthly visit today, was out in under 2 hours, and this was on the longer wait side. It's not that bad. For quality care and a doctor with EMPATHY...I'll take it. Thanks to everybody at Horizon's for helping me struggle my way out of a major hole. I never could've done this without you all. Will ("Matt")

High turnover, though, among staff ... does not bode well for the patients. Staff seems to have attention deficit. On a Monday morning, I made an appointment for an RX-refill visit via their Healow app (online). Tuesday morninng I got a cancellation of the appointment via text. So, Wednesday, I went there as a walk-in. Arriving about 2:20 PM. I finally saw somebody at 5:40 PM. Or, rather a person (not the doctor) came into the exam room and said "sorry for the wait". ... little comfort.... I left ... wonder if the prescripts will be transmitted...???

Ah, American Family Care, where great medical care from the Dr's and Nurses and local staff meets…read morebilling department chaos in a symphony of incompetence. If you're looking for a clinic that can treat you but excels in ignoring your secondary insurance requirements and botching even the simplest instructions directly given to them by the insurer, look no further. This is the place for you! It's honestly impressive how determined they are to not follow directions. I watched in awe as my secondary insurer, a living, breathing human being, literally spoke to them on the phone and explained exactly what was needed. Like, step-by-step, as if talking to a toddler with a billing system. Did that help? Of course not! Why let clear communication ruin a good disaster? Instead, American Family Care billing department decided to go rogue. They billed incorrectly (again), sent the wrong billing codes (bravo), and then didn't even provide the additional information requested by the secondary insurer. And don't worry, if you're hoping for updates or resolution, just sit back and wait forever. Their follow-up skills are so advanced, they've transcended the concept of time entirely. Emails? Vanished. Callbacks? Hilarious. Accountability? nah...But wait, it gets better. Ever try to email them? Or send a letter? You might as well attach your message to a balloon and hope it floats into the right office. Responses are rarer than a solar eclipse. Apparently, their inbox is a black hole where accountability goes to die. And their physical mail? Probably stacked under someone's lunch leftovers. If you enjoy endless phone calls, re-explaining the same thing fifteen times, and playing detective just to get your bills corrected for care you already paid for with the primary insurance congratulations! You've found your happy place. In short: great place if you want to feel like you're participating in a billing scavenger hunt with no prize at the end. But you will get treated. Avoid unless you're trying to test your patience and sanity or writing a thesis on bureaucratic failure. Primary insurer, no problem...Secondary-DISASTER-no clue what they're doing but it's not the right thing. All the work they put in for $35 far exceeds the return they would get. Amazing.

We believe that pulled pork he ate was not good. Anyway, took him to AFC in Madison and the wait was unbelievable. I was told they only had one provider and wait time could be awhile. Not a problem! The problem is what happens next. He's seen by a doctor that test him for COVID and flu and it comes back negative. They draw blood and tell me I can get the results tomorrow. In the meantime, they start him on antibiotics worried that he may have have a stomach bug or food poisoning. He gets worse the next day and my wife is concerned takes him to another doctor. The other doctor is completely confused because he's like why they would give him these antibiotics knowing that he has diarrhea and that the antibiotics would only make it worse. He takes him off the antibiotics and he gets better almost instantaneous. Finally, about 30 minutes ago we get a call to tell us he's dehydrated from AFC. I worry that had we not kept went to another doctor and continued him on these unnecessary antibiotics that my son could be dead now. I'm taking him to get more labs done to ensure that they haven't done any permanent damage by giving him medicine that wasn't necessary and quite frankly dangerous. Really disappointed with this and truly this may be the worst medical experience I've ever had. More will follow with updates on his health after this. I'm really confused how a test that only takes a day to get back would be communicated to us three days later after the doctor said it should be back in the following day. Oh, and by the way, it was done the following day we called Labcorp and they gave us the results on the spot. I will not be returning!

You cannot even contact them on the same day in some cases. The main complaint that I have now is that the employees do not wear masks. This is at a time when Alabama is out of ICU beds and Covid cases are out of control. You must wear a mask to enter the building where the practice is located but once you enter their practice, no one is wearing masks. This makes me very uncomfortable. I will be looking for a new doctor.

I'm the time I have been a patient at this practice, I've never seen a doctor, just Nurse practitioners. I called the practice on Tuesday with a flare up of a condition I have that can be serious if not treated. I left two messages on Tuesday explaining my issue and requesting an appointment. I received no call back Fast forward to my appointment today. I explained my visit was for the flare up that needed treatment, I was having an issue with dry mouth, needed refills and a referral. I was told it was too many issues and all they could handle was a 3 min exam and the refills I would need another appointment for the dry mouth concern and a referral. I'd probably be okay with that if visits were charged different fees depending on length of appointment but I paid a normal fee. Don't go here if you want care and concern or if you don't want to be just a number to them.

They send appointment reminders the day prior and one hour prior to your appointment. Their online system allows easy cancellations. When you arrive you check in via text link. The wait is never long and the technicians are friendly, efficient, and draw your blood correctly and painlessly! Their appointment timeslots are every twenty minutes beginning at 6:00 AM with the last appointment at 4:40 PM. The interior is clean and the entire process is fairly touchless, except for touching your palm on some type of palm reading device. You enter at the northeast corner of the building under a green awning that shares a space with a hospital affiliated fitness center and has a lovely pond with a fountain that people are always walking around for exercise. I've never had to wait very long once I'm checked in. I've noticed the 6:00 AM timeslot is the fastest one in terms of getting in and out efficiently. Today I waited about 20 minutes to get called to the back for my blood drawing. This was for a 6:40 AM appointment and that's still not a bad wait. The restrooms are clean, the building is handicap accessible, and with the text check in there is no need to sign in at the indoor kiosk at the (typically vacant) interior receptionist desk. If you enter from Balch road and wind around through the parking lot you avoid the lengthy traffic light, east at the entrance to the Target shopping center. When you're done doing your fasting lab work, there's a Panera right there and you can order on the app, pick up your breakfast and get on with your day!
