Somehow I thought this store was long gone from Fox Valley, so it was a fun surprise to find it again...and jammed with all kinds of fun stuff! Lots of Sailor Moon and other anime figurines, plushies and more, Pusheen, Sanrio (everything from Hello Kitty to Gudetama...but where is Aggretsuko!?), J-Pop, and so on. One of two reasons I enjoy visiting Westfield Mall - H&M and this intriguing little Japanese gift shop. I wouldn't have noticed it if the Firstborn hadn't dislocated my shoulder when we walked by. She's been on an extended Japanese Anime kick - for the past couple years she's all about Hayao Miyazaki films and Avatar - so this store naturally drew her in. Lots of anime stuff, videogames, posters, girly room accessories, Hello Kitty, Totoro, and kids bento boxes. I absolutely love Too Cool. It's an awesome store - and frequently the only reason I've got for visiting the malls in the area. The Fox Valley / Westfield location is the second best of the Too Cools I frequently visit. Their anime goods aren't as varied as the Yorktown location's, but they definitely get the job done - and the Sanrio goodies make up most of the store. Not that that's a bad thing! I'm a fan of both sides of the store, so to speak ;) The staff here isn't as awesome as the Yorktown location, either - but they're still very nice. Overall, this is the coolest store in Fox Valley Mall - but not quite the coolest Too Cool location. read more

Great fun ever since they removed the Hello Kitty store closed down on Ogden and Naper Blvd to make room for the Dahn Yoga spot. The store is located in the upper level by the JC PEnney entrance (just after Spencers and the telemarketing place). This location almost has it all, including adult anime type items such as collectibles (not very many, nor very rare however), DVDs, CDs, and electronics from the sanrio series. Also has some really neat items such as phone jewelry, plates, school supplies and automobile accessories. Convenient when the Schaumburg Sanrio store is far, far away... and many a gas mileage buck removed. read more

Really nice selection for the small size of the store! I came in to buy kpop related goods. The only albums they have there are BTS, so I hope they'll branch out to other groups like SEVENTEEN. They have BT21, BTS's characters, related merchandise including plushies, keychains, and more. They have some T-shirts, but not a lot. They also have a lot of other cute plushies. I bought Jimin's BT21 character plush, Chimmy. I'm really happy with my purchase, and I would recommend this store! read more

This is a cute and quirky little shop in the Fox Valley/Westfield mall, and is a must-see for Hello Kitty (and any Sanrio character, for that matter) fans. The store is small but -packed- to the brim with cute things, and there's a wide variety of unique items for purchase that make fantastic presents. I've completed my birthday shopping list numerous times while here. However, the prices are on the higher side to the point where some objects have continually remained in the store because no one in their right mind would purchase them at that high price. For example, some Hello Kitty phone charms go into the $9-10+ range (a MUCH better price would be $4-5) and a medium-sized character plushie can cost you $16+. I know that since many of these objects are official Sanrio-licensed products, they have to follow the prices that Sanrio affixes on their labels, but it would really prove nice to the loyal customers if prices were lowered on most items in the shop. Also, if you're not used to how small Asian shops are "watched" (security-wise), don't think the shopkeeper is creeping on you or anything if he/she is continually watching every move you make. It's just how all Asian shops are, don't take it personal. I like buying my school supplies from that shop, but two things DEFINITELY need to be improved: (1) Variety of items (include more brands, like Q-lia, San-X, White Orange Story/Lovely White, Morning Glory and Crux!) This small, adorable shop is a Hello Kitty haven. Don't forget her buddies like My Melody and Chococat! I love coming in here just to browse. Today I almost caved and purchased a plastic Hello Kitty wallet for $8. Typically the cute pens and notepads suck me in. There's also a wide selection of Hello Kitty jewelry, backpacks, diaries/stationery, pillows, lunch boxes and school supplies. It's a tiny store, so I only go inside when no one else is shopping there. There's a lot of other Japanese stuff that I'm not familiar with (anime, etc.) and Japanese candy, so only 50% of the store draws my interest. If you're not ready to drop serious cash on something relatively worthless (scented Hello Kitty putty eraser), then do not bring your kids in here! Salespeople are friendly. Let me just start by saying I am vary greatfull for this shop to be close to my house its not easy to find little shops like this its like an oasis in a desert you can't find something like this on every street corner like MD. This cute little shop has a wide range of some of the most popular anime and game figures that are out right now from plush characters to scroll poster and DVD's I can find just what I want here and for a decent prices that I would expect to find any where else. the people here are really nice and friendly. I can't for get about the big hello kitty and friends collection they have there as well. I can honestly say me my family and friends enjoy this little shop a lot and will be always doing business with them time and time again. I recommend this to any anime and game lover out there. And if your wondering about fakes and real items I personally don't give a hoot about if its real or not cause its the love for the anime that is more important to me I don't see dollar signs every time I see something I love I'm going to keep it and cherish the memories and enjoyment it will bring me. But as far as fakes and reals go yes yes there are some fakes so if your Anil about that umm what can I say eBay is not that trusting either but go nuts. read more

I am a big fan of anime, and the goods associated with it. TOO COOL, Sells mostly fakes from china not athentic japanese goods. The CD's for J-rock are too cheap to be real (a gack cd for 12.99) as a fan of the musicians I think that it is a shame to be selling knock-offs. They sell anime DVD's for too much that are fakes(sailor moon stars for 49.99, not official because it was never released in america). The anime figures are the best thing about this store, If you can't get them on ebay for cheaper they are reasonable about the prices on some of them. BUT be aware that 90 percent of the anime goods are fakes from China so do not pay more than what you can pay to buy them from an american seller on ebay. read more

When I was a little girl, I had all sorts of Hello Kitty jazz- plush animals, stickers, lip gloss, pens. Too Cool carries a sizable selection of Sanrio goodies ranging from all the classics to commuter coffee cups (which I take with me everywhere), assorted travel necessities (bags and luggage), plus lots of Anime collectables in back. My boyfriend and I took a trip to this Too Cool location this past Saturday. It was a nice store with a pretty good selection of anime and a large selection of Hello Kitty trinkets which is what drew me to the store in the first place. However, I was drawn out (or should I say Thrown Out) by the extremely rude sales associate. I have honestly never met a sales associate so rude in my life! Instead of being helpful, he made himself scarce in the store. He didn't even greet us when we entered. When I decided to greet him , instead of just saying hello, he stared at me and asked "what do you want?" I told him that I was just being friendly and he just rolled his eyes said okay and walked away. Not only that but when an older woman picked up a backpack from a rack that said "do not touch" ( the sign was small in hidden in the corner) he sarcastically said "Hey you wanna see something cooler? 'This sign that says do not touch' Now put it back!" When my boyfriend and I were discussing anime with another couple in the store (we were still browsing and in the process of looking at things to purchase) the sales associate came over to us and said, "Hey guys you know what would be awesome? If you went to the food court or another store and talked there. Get out! Yeah that's right I'm kicking you out!" How disrespectful. I was seething the whole rest of the day. That encounter ruined my whole mall experience. It was a nice store but with service like that, it's not a surprise that the store was lacking customers. read more

I really love this store. I saw one of the previous reviews mentioned fakes, so the last time I went I asked about it. The employees were happy to tell me where all the products come from and admitted some of the jewelry was knockoffs, but not much else. Some of the prices are high, but I have searched for the same items online and found the prices to be the same, without shipping. If you have the time, check online for items that seem priced high, you might find them for less. But overall I find the prices to be fair, and the selection great. Hello Kitty items fill half the store and the selection seems to change about monthly, which is nice. The anime selection seems to change randomly, rather then on a schedule. However, the amount of anime items has increased over the years, and I find this location has the most anime things of all the Too Cools now. read more

Loved the selection of merchandise but unfortunately the employee at the register was rude and has no idea what hes selling. I walked into the store with my husband about 30 min before closing and as soon as I walked in he mentioned they are going to "prepare" closing within 15 min. about 2 min after he mentioned it again as if he just wanted to get rid of us. I asked about 2 different anime characters which he then proceeded to tell me he has none of the merchandise yet when looking at the displays there were plenty of the characters. Also when asking about the Saint seiya scorpio action figure he mentioned it cost $200 because its solid gold. If he actually knew the merchandise he was selling he would know that it is not solid gold. And again after asking him about the action figure he mentioned he was going to close. Overpriced in my opinion. Came in last weekend in search of a Chococat planner. They had one small planner on the shelf, but it was damaged and had a missing divider, another divider was ripped and the zip pocket was broken. The employee behind the register was having what appeared to be a casual conversation with a buddy the entire time I was inside the store (15 minutes) I had to wait until the employee was done talking before I was finally noticed. I asked the employee if there were more Chococat planners in stock, because I refuse to pay $28 plus tax for a planner that is damaged and has missing inserts... So the employee answers my question and says, "probably not." So I'm thinking to myself: "will this person check to see if there are ore in the back." Of course not. This person continued having this casual conversation. Will not return. They do have very cute items, but I think many of them are a bit overpriced in my opinion. read more

This store will take your money and give you bootleg merchandise. Most of their anime figures are bootlegs (except for the Play Art Kai figures by Square-Enix apparently). Every single anime sub sold there = bootleg. If you don't like being ripped off, then don't shop here or any other Too Cool store. Go with Ebay before going here. read more

Just a note for people who are concerned about getting "fakes" at Too Cool. This is more in response to Rudy G. and what was said about the J-Rock cds being fakes. The cds sold at the Too Cool stores are not fakes, but rather something called "overseas versions". This means that they are licensed and produced specifically for sale outside of Japan. You can tell because if you look on the back of the cd cases, you'll see that the majority of them come from S.M. Entertainment. I can't speak for those that don't have SM on there, but the ones that do are the Korean produced versions, which is why the prices are so low. You'll be happy to know that the purchase of these cds still gives full credit and royalties/profits to the original artist *although it helps their music chart in whatever country the cd was produced in, not Japan.* If you are still concerned about getting your Japanese music there, I would suggest to you Mitsuwa Marketplace out in Arlington Heights, which has a small selection of Japanese music in the Sanseido bookstore directly imported from Japan and prices set at Japan's current rate. Or, there's always yesasia.com, which is where I get most of my music. That way, you can choose between the original Japanese version or one of the overseas versions if your wallet can't afford $30-$50 for one cd. Hope this puts peoples' minds at ease a bit. read more
