I went to this store in search of a gift for my two year old. Highly recommend for those looking for toys for small kids. I ended up getting a Minnie mouse backpack for my daughter whose birthday is on Saturday. I told the shop owner/employee that I was buying this for my daughter second birthday and mentioned that she will be so excited for such a cute gift. Upon checking out, the shop owner/employee added a free cracker snack to the purchase and wished my daughter a happy birthday. Overall great products and great service. read more

I'm an anime and a video game fan, so this place is a match made in heaven to me, so what's the catch? I collect a lot of import items, so I know that the prices vary from ordering them online to going to limited Japan collectible shops such as Nakama Toys. I've been going to TooCool in the Yorktown mall since 2019 where I found out about it from a friend of mine. I went a couple times with a group of friends before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down everything for a good while. The owner is super nice a least to me and my friends then, as we were just looking around and ultimately I got an Inuyasha figure during my first visit. I went one last time in early 2020 in which they had a great selection of Dragonball and prize figures, anything myself and fellow anime figure collectors and fans enjoy: the catch, they are a bit overpriced from what their original prices are. Before I buy anything from an actual physical shop, I look up online and see what the current price is for any item is and decide then whether to pick it up. Skipping forward to December of 2022, it was my first time in two years going back to the mall and TooCool for a Christmas gift to myself. Immediately walking in there I knew something was different, I was not sure why, but looking around (mind you that it was before Christmas , a good week, and maybe people were looking and buying gifts for their friends and children, so I get it, although I didn't ask of course). There were some very nice prize figures, although the prices again were better online then at the place. I browsed some more, if I didn't say this before, the place is very packed to the brim with merchandise which I love, but you can get lost and if your looking for something in particular, it is pretty hard to look at times. I continued looking around and finally found something I was interested in, the Final Fantasy Vanille Play Arts figure by Square Enix. I didn't look up the price before hand because it was a treat for myself, and for me getting good grades at my first semester at my college that I transferred to. I know how much Play Arts and Square Enix figures cost, and they are top of the line when it comes to articulated figures and detail, so when I saw that she was $100, I knew it in my head that it would be that much, boy was I wrong. I was looking at some reviews of Vanille, online and on eBay I had the realization that she goes for $44 plus shipping online, cheaper than what I got at TooCool, so I felt mixed feelings of the price I payed at the place, note that you can not return items once they are purchased. Overall, the point is that I love looking around TooCool, and glad it is there in the Yorktown mall. Also I learned that I make sure I don't pay for overpriced items and look them up online, going back to Nakama Toys, they price their figures and merchandise accordingly online to their shop (note that they are a small business, not a chain of stores), and they don't sell older merchandise. If your looking for something for a fellow anime fan for either a gift for a birthday or Christmas, I would recommend going in and looking around, but don't go overboard, as you will spend more than you realized. If you are shopping with a little girl, anime fan, etc., you will be forced into this overstocked, Hello Kitty exploded in here store. Packed full of too much of everything. Lots of hand written signs to warn all you inept caregivers that you need to watch your charges or they will be fed espresso and be sent home or be sold to a traveling circus. A few days ago my friend went into the store and she FaceTimed me. She took pictures of the items because I wasn't there in person and there was terrible signal. I wanted her to buy stuff but I needed to see what was available. The store employee kept following her around WITH A CAMERA and asking my friend why is she taking photos? Then proceeded to kicked her out of the store because she was holding up the line.... She wasn't even in the store for LESS THAN 5 mins. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!! Every thing in this store are overpriced knock-offs. Their obviously fakes from china, which I don't usally have a problem with, but their prices are as much, sometimes more than the authentic products. You can buy the authentic products for the same price, most cheaper, at places like FYE and Best Buy. You'll be supporting the makers of the anime series by buying the authentic versions. This store felt like a antique shop. The high prices along with sighns that say "don't touch" and "ask for assistance" are the main reasons for this. BOTTOM LINE don't be dumb and buy anything from this store. You can buy the same products for cheaper from E-Bay, Amazon, FYE, Best Buy, and they are the authentic versions which means that your money will be going twords the people that make all these anime and hello kitty products. By doing this you will be helping continue this buisness, otherwise they'd go out of buisness. Examples of their overpriced items Cowboy Bebop Series 59.99 I bought the same one from E-bay for $15 (that includes shipping) Wall Scrolls are 18.99 I have about 15 wall scrolls, and the most I paid for 1 was $12 (with shipping) Final Fantasy Cloud with Hardy Daytona 119.99 The average price for this is 69.99 For 70 bucks, you can get it from white wizard toys located in schaumburg, on e-bay you can get it for as low as 50, with patience. PLUS IT'S ONLY $100 AT ALL THE OTHER TOO COOL stores Final Fantasy Auron and Yuna were $38.99 At the most, you should be paying $25-$30 (that includes shipping) Anything Sailor Moon is always fake, unless it's a Japanese Manga, those are the only things still being made. I'm a regular at Too Cool. I've been going there since before they moved out of the tiny, cramped space that was tucked in one of the more hidden corners of the mall. I've also gotten my picture taken and can be found somewhere in the mass of photos plastered on the walls. The owner is such a nice and cute lady, she's partially the reason why I visit so often. She's practically watched me grow up, lol. True, the prices are steep, but it's still nice to walk around and peruse the selection. You can find a lot of random things in there. I mostly pop in to buy cell phone charms, stickers, and stationary (AKA the cheaper items in the store). read more

I absolutely love Too Cool. It's an awesome store - and frequently the only reason I've got for visiting the malls in the area. The Yorktown Too Cool is the best of the bunch. The store is the largest - and features the biggest selection, both of anime goods and Sanrio goods. The back half of the store houses all of the anime goodies, while the front half caters to the Sanrio and overwhelmingly cute things. The entire store is awesome, though. Also, I have to say that the woman who works here is the nicest clerk in any store I've ever been in. My best friend and I frequently come in here and just mill around. We've been huge fans of the store ever since it was all crammed into a tiny little shop on the upper level. Sadly, we don't usually spend much money in there - but the woman is still super friendly to us every time we come in, like we're old friends. To be honest, we often stop in just to say hi to her. I like Too Cool but buyer beware..... they change (raise) the prices on Sanrio merchandise, a practice that is forbidden according to Sanrio's corporate website. If you are ever in need of your Chococat or Hello Kitty fix, go to Sanrio directly. The prices are printed and not "smeared" and reticketed by a generic sticker. I was very pleasantly surprised by finding another Too Cool store (besides the one in Fox Valley mall that I'm familiar with). This store is larger and has more items, particularly those for lunch boxes or bentos, and related cups, glasses, bottles and little fork/knife sets. Not very varied but still good to have. Memorabilia and trinkets on the other hand, are very good, especially the larger dvd and cd collection. read more

Lots and lots of Anime action figures, plushies, keychains, necklaces, collectables, wall hangings, wooden swords and some Anime costumes too. I saw items for the Final Fantasy Games, Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Pokemon, Godzilla, Invader Zim & Deathnote. Above mentioned, are some of the icons I recognize, there are many more that I don't. When you first walk in, Hello Kitty fans will be drawn to the large collection of Hello Kitty items on the left. In the middle of the store near the entrance is a large display of Anime affiliated school supply items. IE. notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, etc. They have POCKY! Which my kids love. This Too Cool is absolutely amazing! I know the woman who owns the place and she is super nice! I think her son is the one who works at the register now and he is also very nice! The customer service there is amazing and the items there are awesome too. I remember once I spent a lot of money on Hatsune Miku and anime items and she gave me a box of candy for free! Wonderful woman! The only suggestion I have is for there to be more Haikyuu!! items and maybe some kpop items. I think it will create a good buzz if there are kpop items like at the Too Cool in Gurnee. And I personally love Haikyuu so I would spend lots of money on those items! read more

I randomly went into this store with some friends and let me just say that this store is amazing. After looking around for a bit through all of the things they had, I bought a Mew plushie keychain for my backpack. I went to ring it up at the counter and the old lady (manager I assume) was so sweet and kind! Beforehand me and my friends were talking about the pictures found across the whole store and the lady chimed in to the conversation letting us know some other things. At the register before she bagged the Mew I got, she pulled out some Hello Panda chocolate/breadstick snacks that would expire the next day and gave me and my friends a free one each. Other than that the store has a large variety of items and the place as a whole is nice to be in. Any buyers just be aware that most items are displays so you'll have to ask the lady at the register to get one for you. I would absolutely go here again. read more

I love visiting this place! As someone who is always casually on the lookout for sanrio merch, I really didn't find the prices to be any different from other shops that stock the same items. I happily picked up a few chococat things, who is my favorite character and sometimes hard to find. True, the stock isn't up-to-date with the Sanrio website, but that does mean you can run into some old collection gems you may have missed out on (like plushies, for instance)! I found some adorable sticker sets in this shop that I have never seen elsewhere, even online. And the shopkeeper is such a sweet & polite woman. Other fun things include Pokemon, Godzilla/Gojira, and anime merch. They even have Attack on Titian/Shingeki no Kyojin cloaks, which I thought was neat. read more

I really enjoy looking at this shop! I love seeing all the fan memorabilia. They've got it all. Mario, hello kitty, slime, Godzilla, funko pops, anime items etc. One thing I haven't found was Pac-Man and older video game memorabilia! This store is similar to other too cools in the area. The only critique I have is that everything is incredibly expensive. I assume this is because it is "imported" and that's why a pack of slime will cost $8. But truthfully I can find similar (if not the exact) items on amazon for much cheaper. I found a Godzilla figure for my nephew here but they wanted close to $50 for it. Found the same one online for $30. A lot of the items feel like they're knock off items you can get while touring the streets of any foreign country. You know the kind I'm talking about. The ones that have things spelled incorrectly or have funky coloring etc. I will say, they have cute stationary! If you want to support small businesses and don't mind spending a little extra -- come here for memorabilia! read more

I've been going here for the last 10 years or so and I've always enjoyed their inventory. I will admit, they're Sanrio inventory there is over-priced for what I think is printed on the Sanrio price tag, but it's a great place to buy gifts anyway on the fly. Over the years, I've been buying less and less from that store... I used to buy lots of stationary for school. The girl I encountered was actually an anime fan and was happy to talk about anime with customers. She didn't yell at people or give rude/nasty stares. I'm just so thankful that there's a Hello Kitty store nearby that I'll give it 4 stars for that alone. I really wish they'd have sales or something, stuff's expensive. I know they have those stickers on items for their prices but they usually do match the Sanrio price on the item's tag... I think. They have a lot of Hello Kitty plushes and other things but their selection of HK and other Sanrio character's purses is dwindling. Stupid Betty Boop stuff is replacing all of it and that's the biggest reason I shop there. They have lots of figurines and movies but they're sooooo expensive I would never buy any from them. Those are the prices I genuinely question. Also, I hate feeling like a criminal the second I walk in the door. You're watched that closely and are video taped. I should add that the lady who always works there is very nice, so she does try. She recognized me/my fam at some point and gave me a FREE Hello Kitty pen on my birthday.
