My son was a patient here for dentistry and orthodontia. He had an accident and chipped his two front teeth on a Friday evening. We called several dentist, leaving messages. ALL but Tooth Fairly World returned our call. They still have not returned our call 2 weeks later. Fortunately, we were able to find another dentist to take care of his teeth. For years we overlooked shady billing and bad customer service because we liked the dentist and she seemed to care about our kids. But if they cannot be bothered to call back their patients when they are in need of care, what are they good for? We are happily now with a new dentist. read more

dentist was fine; actually have used her for years. my problem was with the hygienist. my daughter has asd and required a new mold for her retainer. i should also add that i have been a healthcare provider in direct contact with patients for over 25 years. (caps warning because of my frustration level): 1) when you are going to obstruct a patient''s airway for any reason, warning must be given to the patient and the parent...but especially the patient...who jams a mold into someone's mouth without warning!?! 2) when the inevitable regurgitation occurs (those pyloric valve burps are unmistakable), remove the mold and let the kid breathe!! the appropriate response is not to hold the mold in,tighter!!!! i have never left a healthcare provider's office so angry i. my life!!! fortunately, my daughter was ok, but i had to remove her from the presence of s person, for both our sakes!! would like to see this hygienist disciplined before someone really gets hurt!!!! read more

Worst customer service ever. My 7 year old daughter had an appointment there, as we walked in and approached the counter the representative just looked and did not speak. So I said hi and she just ignored and said name. So I let that go. Then at the end of the visit as we walked out the door the same lady that didn't greet me said something and I guess because I didn't really hear what she said to me she proceeded to wave her hand in a disrespectful manner as if to say whatever. I turned around and saw the hand gesture and she changed her attitude fairly quickly and asked me something but I just left out to not return again.I will never support their business again. read more

I had been trying to schedule a dental appointment for at least three weeks, but no office (15 tries) wanted to deal with my insurance. I finally spoke to Dee at the Hyde Park office. She listened patiently to my "tale of woe" and took the time to speak to my insurance company to determine my eligibility. She then was able to schedule me to see the dentist at the Lincoln Park location because it would be a sooner appt. than Hyde Park. I ended up going to a family member's dentist even sooner, but I am so grateful to Dee and Tooth Fairy World for the time and compassion shown to me. Not a fan at all. I took my kids there and the anesthesia either was expired or not properly administered because they both felt EVERYTHING. Imagine getting a tooth pulled with no pain relief. We all left sobbing. It was really terrible and traumatic. read more

I'd really recommend you get a second opinion before getting braces here. We only went for a consultation, but the experience was weird/awkward. The form we filled out seemed rudimentary (literally looked like they googled "orthodontist forms" and printed out the first thing they saw on Google images). The waiting room was really dusty and outdated, everything seemed really... old. When it was time to go back for the consultation, no pictures, no x-rays... the doctor came back, did a 30 second visual once over and came to the conclusion that 12-18 months of braces would do. He said there was a little bit of crowding and protrusion, no specifics, and he was either unable or unwilling to answer any questions about how braces work. When he left the receptionist quoted us a price of $5,000. I almost laughed out loud. There was no basis for their estimate and on top of that they wanted a down payment to book a follow up. The receptionist claimed that this price was valid because the orthodontist was "board certified" (she said this over and over and over again), and seemed to be trying to imply that my orthodontist (I have braces as well) was probably not. My friend and I went to a different doctor (still in Chicago, but not the Hyde Park neighborhood) and got a quote for $2,100 cheaper (and this was after doing x-rays/a full dental exam). Please, I beg you, get a second opinion when dealing with these people. read more

Took my little one in for an exam and cleaning. Liked the name and the decor put my child at ease so I was hoping for a pleasant experience. This was not the case by any means. The dental hygienist, while a kind enough woman, was very rough and manhandled my child as she gripped the arms of her chair for dear life. I was looking for a pediatric dentist for my now 2 year old's first visit and TFW was nearby. My partner researched it, and thought it sounded like a good fit so we made his first dentist appointment! I figured they'd look at his teeth, count them, talk to him about the tools, and oooh look at the fun little mirror! you know? Ease him into the idea of it. NOPE. Dr. Vitello did not speak to my son once, but directed me to sit in the chair and HOLD HIM DOWN. She then proceeded to lubricate his lips in order to put a spinning polishing tool in his mouth, right off the bat! No playing with him, introducing him to the tool, nothing, Just, "Hold him down, brace his head." And she kept getting ticked off at me for not restraining my child adequately! It was just short of barbaric. She then, through the screaming, polished his teeth. WTF? He's 18 months old! She told me it HAD to be done because he had rough enamel on his teeth, and was discolored. I asked if it would cause cavities or impair his bite. No, it's just cosmetic. COSMETIC??? COSMETIC DENTISTRY AT 18 MONTHS OLD. My child was traumatized. She then smeared on a fluoride treatment I did not ask for. After that she told me to use ONLY non-fouride kid's toothpaste. What? I was so upset, my son was beside himself and now is afraid of that whole building every time we go near it! She ruined him for dentistry, and I will never bring another child there ever again. I don't know how I'll ever get him to sit an another dentist's chair without freaking out. This was NOT the way to treat a toddler on his first visit to the dentist. Horrible! read more

I don't know about some of the negative reviews on here. I've been going to Dr. Vitiello for almost 30 years. My mother started to take me here when I was a very little girl and I just kept going each year! Now my two children (ages 3 and 16 months) are patients. Our experience has ALWAYS been a pleasant one. The receptionists have always been nice, the dental hygienists have never manhandled any of us and are always kind and gentle. Dr. Vitiello is great with children and adults and her advice has never steered us wrong. I would totally recommend this practice for children and adults. It's pretty amazing that over the past three decades Dr. Vitiello and her staff have maintained such a kind and professional practice. read more

I recently took my 3-year-old daughter here for her first dentist visit. The atmosphere was very welcoming, as were the receptionists who greeted us and checked us in. We waited less than 5 minutes to be seen. The dentist and hygienist were both warm and welcoming. Dr. Vitiello explained everything she did before she did it, so my child wasn't surprised by the process. I was able to sit right next to my daughter and talk to her through the whole experience. We were in and out in under 30 minutes. If I had any complaint it would be that the TV above the dental chair was set to Cartoon Network, which I feel is not appropriate for young children. read more

I had a horrible experience here. I had to have 4 root canals done as a child with crowns on top, each done separately. I was a very anxious child, and I had a terrible phobia of dentists and this dentistry was the start of it. There was a lot of brute force going on, and the pain was unbearable. They used almost zero pain management for each of the root canals. I also went there for simple cleanings- why would a cleaning hurt? Well they did. This is not a place for children. It will leave them scarred for life and terrified of dentists. I do not recommend. read more

My husband found Tooth Fairy World through his insurance provider. Our boys, 5 & 2, needed back to school exams. We have been to Apple Dental which my oldest hated at 1 year-old, so we asked around & went to Pine Dental for his next appointment, & LOVED it. The orthodontist was magical, she made it ALL FUN; even convinced my little that I would be his dentist at home so I had NO TROUBLE BRUSHING HIS TEETH. Well, Pine was booked & we were forced to try Tooth Fairy World. So sad! My oldest was nervous, it was a bore. Then it was my 2 year-olds turn & it all took a turn for the worst. He cried & the orthodontist tried but failed to be fun; she spoke to me the whole time instead of the littles. So, if you go to Tooth Fairy World expect basic service & crying, lots of crying. read more

We had high hopes for our almost-2-year-old son who had his first dentist visit at Tooth Fairy World. The waiting room had Duplos - what could be better?! We expected the first visit to be very basic: meet the dentist, get to know the office, count his teeth and make sure nothing major was wrong. The dentist entered the exam area with a surgical gown, gloves, a plastic face shield, and a mask - terrifying for our toddler. She jumped right into the exam and didn't try to get him to warm up at all. She pried his mouth open as he was screaming, with my husband and me holding him down with all our strength. As if that wasn't bad enough, she then got out the polishing tool and whirred it in his face, forcing it into his mouth without any explanation of what she was doing and why and when. Our son is a very good listener and understands everything going on, so if she had taken more time to get to know him, tell him what she was doing and why, etc., it would have gone much more smoothly. Instead, we had an experience that traumatized him and us, and we'll have to take a few steps backward to even regularly brush teeth now, much less visit the dentist again. read more

She has treated my daughter, a VERY nervous dental patient, for several years and has always done a competent job with patience and compassion. I was very impressed with Tooth Fairy World. My son, who is on the spectrum, had never been to the dentist. They were so good with him! He has a sensitivity to light so when he was having a little trouble with the light above his head when he was in the chair, they brought him a pair of sunglasses to wear. They showed him everything they were going to do on his hand first and explained everything very well. It made him much more comfortable. I would give them 5 stars but when we were checking out they were having problems figuring out my yelp coupon which took a bit of time. Other than that - great place to send your kids! read more

The office staff here is completely inefficient. We just received a notice from a collection agency that we have an unpaid bill for THIRTY FIVE dollars from Tooth Fairy World. Tooth Fairy World has NEVER mailed us a bill, nor have they ever informed us of this when we visited. THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE HEARD OF THIS! Now I have to deal with the hassle of a collection notice for a lousy $35 bill we would gladly have paid IF THEY HAD BOTHERED TO TELL US WE OWED IT. We are taking our business elsewhere. I learned about Tooth Fairy World while working in Hyde Park and it proved to be a wonderful place to start my girls' oral care. The environment is awesome with lots of distractions for kids during the usually short wait time. The staff is great with kids and my daughters actually like going to the dentist. I love Dr. V with all my heart. I have been a patient for 23 years and I am so glad I fell of my bike or whose ever bike and chipped my tooth when I was 3 years old. I was her patient when she was young into her practice working for The Castle, took over and renamed it Tooth Fairy World. I will never cheat on Dr. V and my insurance does not cover her practice and I do not care. I go on and pay with cash for her to look at these #CavityFree Choppers!!! #TeeHee. I am so the big kid when I go into the office. The receptionist always try to send me to the adult doctors, and I always decline because I just can not. My history is too long with Dr. V. She has watched me evolved from a little baby to a young and ambitious lady. She keeps up with her patients and knows a lot about myself and that is important. Dr. V. has been the dentist for my children since 1996. It has always been a good experience with good service. Each time we've needed emergency care Dr. V. has always accommodated us without issues. Schedule ahead, schedule early, and be on time so that the day goes well for everyone. This is also the office that has best handled and explained the insurance coverage so that payments are correct without a lot of back and forth with payments. The front desk admin. staff has always been competent and willing to discuss the best ways to use FSA and insurances. read more

The Hyde Park location is very convenient and I really appreciate the great job that Dr. Shafaie does on my regular cleanings and the filling I had last year. I am pleased with my child's dentist. We've been going to tooth fairy world for about 3 years now. The purpose of this post is to inform anyone seeking orthrodontist treatment. I did a free consultation in May of 2019. To start there was a $500 deposit. I paid that amount however chose to wait until June to get my braces. For my 1st visit I was told there would be a remaining balance of $5,000. My case is not severe... I had lower crowdedness from growth of wisdom teeth. I was informed by the orthrodontist that it would require roughly 13 months for braces. I paid the balance in full during my first initial visit totaling $5500. The purpose of my review is that I referred someone else who was quoted $1000 cheaper and requiring longer treatment due to the many issues....After reaching out to "Dee" the business manager who refused to return phone my calls, she finally called me back after I stated I would be doing an online review. Braces are definitely expensive, I didn't have a problem with paying the amount. The issue to me seems as if they are just charging whatever to whom ever. I wish I would have taken more time to seek other orthodontists. I was looking at convenience, better yet my experience has not been pleasant. read more

My daughter was complaining about her tooth bother her for a couple of days. I called her dentist but they could not fit her in. I called the Tooth Fairy World and explain about my daughter, and I had an appt within minutes. When I arrive the ladies there were nice and pleasant made my daughter and I feel very comfortable. Nevertheless, the Dentist was patience with my child talking to her and everything. I was just amaze how everyone work together making me understand what was going on, and at the same time relaxing my daughter. Our experiences have been good overall. We have been going here for about a year and a half and each appointment has been pretty good. They work quickly, which is important with toddlers. At the first appointment they definitely did more explaining of what was going on to my daughter so she felt more comfortable, at her most recent visit there was very little explanation and I think that scared her a little bit, she didn't know what the doctor was doing so I tried to explain while also distracting her with the tv, I would have appreciated if the doctor or assistant took an extra few seconds to calmly explain what they are going to do and what is next and when she is almost done. So lesson learned and I will be sure to ask them to do this next time. read more

I was very disappointed in the ability to administer pain medication. I have never seen my children experience the amount of pain that was allowed to go on without checking to see if the kids were ok. Two kids who have had a lot of dental visits before with no issues. We wanted to love this office, but I know there are other dentists who know how to make things less painful. read more
