We recently moved to Northern Colorado from the east coast. It's always a challenge finding new, trustworthy health providers - very important because we have 2 young children. We went to Toothzone because of a referral from a co-worker. The evaluation showed my daughter had several cavities. I got a second opinion from another pediatric dentist (I always get a second opinion). The other office evaluation came off like a sales pitch: pictures of decaying teeth were shown and the dentist wanted to give my daughter 4 crowns. I explained to the other dentist that I'd like a conversative approach - I'd like to avoid general anesthesia unless absolutely necessary. The other dentist quoted me the option of filling the cavities but kept bringing up the fact that my daughter may need the crowns if she doesn't react to the fillings well or doesn't sit through the process. I understand this is the reality of treating a 2 year old. However, the fact that the crowns cost 4.5 times more than the fillings caused me to question the other dentist's true motivations. I chose to return to Dr. Ryan of Toothzone for the fillings. He never pressured us during the initial eval, he encouraged me to take my time with the decision, and he never mentioned the need for crowns (her cavities were not severe, small off white color). The fillings for the cavities went great. I'm extremely grateful to Dr. Ryan and his staff for the job they did and making the dentist visit as pleasant as possible. I was allowed in the room - held my daughter's hand during most of the process. Dr Ryan had great bedside manners and quickly developed a good rapport with my daughter. He knew the characters of her favorite movie. His calm demeanor and good sense of humor came in handy when she started to get a little fussy towards the end of the procedure. I hope to see Dr. Ryan as little as possible but I'm so happy to have found an office I can trust for my children's oral hygiene. Thank you Dr. Ryan! read more

This review is for the Oak Park location. They used to service adults, my understanding is that now they do not. I used to like this dentist office. It was one of the better ones, however, I am not so pleased with them now. I ended up with an infection in one of the teeth they worked on. I am not sure if they were to blame for the infection. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it would have happened no matter which dentist worked on me. What I am not happy about is how they dealt with the infection. I had a lot of work done with them over the course of 2 years. In the end they said I was good to go and would just need to keep up with regular maintenance (brushing flossing and cleaning visits). I went back a couple weeks later complaining that my bite was not right and my teeth were hitting incorrectly and I still had pain in my lower jaw. They said I was grinding my teeth at night and needed a guard. No tests or inspection was done, only the assumption that that was my problem. Insurance did not cover the guard so I paid 100% of it out of pocket. I went in and they took a mold of my mouth and sent it in fore the guard to be made. I got the guard and tried it. At first it was uncomfortable because it was very big and I was not used to it. But I had been assured that was normal and I would get used to it. Over the next week or 2 it got even more uncomfortable and even painful. I went back and they said I had an infection. They said the infection was pushing my teeth out of place and that is why my bite was incorrect and why the guard did not work. They did not apologize for the miss-diagnoses and instead still insisted that I wear the guard. They game me regular coarse of antibiotics and sent me on my way. I was back 4 weeks later. The antibiotics HAD helped. My mouth had hurt less and the miss-aligned teeth seemed to go back to where they were supposed to be. But once the antibiotics were out of my system the problems came back. This time they gave me nothing and told me it would heal on its own. When asked they admitted that it could take a couple years. Seriously. That was their answer. Around 2 years or pain was what I needed to deal with. No pain meds, no more antibiotics, no more work done on my mouth. It got b ad enough that I was taking 800mg of ibuprofen and 1000mg of Tylenol every 8 hours every day. I had alarms set so I didn't miss a dose because if I did I would be in so much pain I would be crying on the floor until the meds kicked in. Even with that unsafe amount of pain meds I was still in some pain, but I dealt with it. I went back again and told them all this. They gave me empathy. Wow, exactly what I needed. I don't need pain meds. I don't need antibiotics. I don't need to be able to chew. All I needed was empathy. Or at least that's what they decided. I dealt with it for as long as I could but could no longer bear it. I instead sought out my own solutions. I precured antibiotics with out a prescription and narcotics. That's right. Our modern American Medicine is so advanced that the only way a patient can get the meds they need is to buy them without a "Doctor." Still even with my ill-gotten meds, the problem was not going away. I called to make an appointment and was told they no longer see adults at that location. I was told I could drive an extra 30 min to the other location and that I could be seen in 2 or 3 months. I found a new dentist. They say the tooth needs to come out now, and then antibiotics. IF that works, then they will need to do a bone graft. Meaning the infection has been so bad for so long that it ate away my BONE in my JAW. After that they say they will need to do 5 root cannels and crowns on the surrounding teeth that have been damaged by the infection. And then finally I would have to get a tooth implant to replace the bad tooth the extract. Now for some real symptoms. When I am not taking the ill-gotten meds: I am in severe pain, I have a soar throat from the infection leaking into my mouth, I have clogged sinuses and my dentist thinks there could be infection in them as well from being so close to the tooth infection (and possibly something more serious like a hole between my infected jaw and my sinuses). The drainage from my mouth and sinuses make me nauseas and sick and make it hard not to vomit. I have trouble sleeping, and am very irritable when awake. I have little patience because of all that. And I have a really bad case of halitosis. When I am taking the meds I procured I still have most of those issues, but they are cut by about 50 to 60% until I run out again. read more

Always friendly staff and the kids love the tv's on the ceiling. They do a great job distracting the kids while they work on the not so fun parts. They are usually good about getting both kids appointments at the same time. read more

I went to toothzone as a kid and they always made me feel comfortable. Today I brought my daughter in and Edna and Jason were great. They gave her toys and made it exciting and a calming environment. I was very impressed! read more

The whole experience was shit. Nobody even introduced themselves. I don't even know the doctor's name. I corrected my child's pronouns, had put them on the form and everyone kept using whatever pronoun they decided my kid used. He told me "your breastfeeding is the problem here and you're going to need to stop it" Then he told me "this is what we are going to do" with regard to the black stain and when I asked questions he was condescending and seemed annoyed that I wasn't willing to blindly accept whatever he told me. I felt belittled, not heard, and like I was supposed to do whatever he said. It was clear that nobody read our paperwork prior to our appointment or even cared to get to know us. This place is so catered to children it's wonderful. Once we went in I had to fill out paper work (first timer) and my daughter (almost 2 yrs old) got to play in the kids play zone. Which had a variety of toys for kids of all ages such as slides, tunnels, books, stacking blocks etc. The dental hygienist called us in and right away gave her a tooth brush with her favorite character on it. We sat down and she gave her a toy duck to take home! Dr. Taylor came over and continued the fun, making her laugh and enjoy the time there. They really care about making kids comfortable and helping them through such an unformiliar process, making it so enjoyable that they want to go back. I can say i have never seen an office quite like this one. Its nice to see offices/businesses that care so much, all the way from the receptionist to the Dr. GREAT experience. Thank You. read more

All the staff and Dr Owades are fantastic. Everyone is very polite and helpful to make sure your visit is comfortable and pain free. Dr Owades is very informative, explaining every thing that will happen and always keeps checking to be sure you are comfortable. Their quality of work and their professionalism is what every dental patient looks for........and it can be found here. To top this all off, not only is the staff here at ToothZone, from check in to billing, fantastic, but you never feel as if you are paying for their next expensive car or island home. This was our first time at a pediatric dentist for my 2 1/2 year old (I brought my 1 1/2 yr old along for the ride). Everyone was very nice and patient. I did think it was funny that the nurse assistant didn't say who she was when she came out, I had to ask if she was the dentist or what and she said the assistant, then I had to continue in to ask her name so I could introduce her to my son and she gave me a weird look that I was asking. Besides that everything went smoothly and they had plenty of toys and toothbrushes to help reward my son for being brave when he was a bit scared. Dr Taylor was great at explaining things and patient with my son. The only reason it doesn't have 5 stars is being Jessica didn't come out and say "Hi I'm Jessica, Dr Taylor's assistant, it's nice to meet you today." Which is an easy fix. I also waited a few minutes at an empty Welcome desk when I first walked in, said "Helloooo" loudly with no response, and had to walk back and ask to get checked in. Again, simple fix. read more

3 kids go to Tooth Zone, 2 have major dental issues. EXCELLENT dentists for any child, especially young ones who are terrified of someone drilling in thier mouth. My child is very difficult, yet the staff and dentists are understanding, calming and caring without compromising dental care. Best dentists ever!! read more

My kids have been going to this Toothzone for years. My Son has experienced white spots on his teeth (not saying they are due to the Toothzones fault). So, when we went to our appointment a month ago, we asked to not get the fluoride or cleaning services for either child. When they sat my daughter down, they did X rays and started the cleaning process. She told them we requested to NOT have the cleaning or fluoride treatment and could they make sure and not do either to my brother since you started on mine? They said they would make sure they didn't, but already had. When we got our Explanation Of Benefits, they charged for the cleaning. I called them and explained that they charged for services we requested not to have. They said they would contact Delta Dental and reverse those charges. Then I get a call today from the Toothzone saying they won't reverse the charges because I signed a general form that says cleaning and fluoride are performed. Guess I shouldn't have assumed that communication with the receptionist over rode a general form. I remember taking them years ago when the Dentists were more thorough and not so passive. The total time for each kid from start to finish was less than 5 minutes. Mind you, that is for x rays, cleaning and an exam. Think about that. That is accompanied by almost a $1,000 bill per child billed to insurance. I would be really cautious about taking your kids here, especially for longevity. It wasn't bad when we first started going years ago, but it has turned in to more of a corporate setting where they bill for more and spend less time with you. It's sad when your children notice the decline. read more

I realize that business operations may be impacted by covid, but no one answered the phone, and after about 8 rings it went to their answering service which had a default statement -- not really a greeting -- which didn't even identify the business. After more than an hour, still no call back, so I guess they don't want the business. I wouldn't want anyone taking care of my daughter's teeth who can't be bothered to answer the phone, so I'm moving on to a better provider. read more

I can only say positive things about Dr. Taylor and everyone at Toothzone. His interactions with children are the best I have ever seen from a pediatric dentist. Both of my girls (ages 7 and 3) were at ease yesterday at their six month checkup. My younger child needed a treatment for a cavity and because of Dr. Taylor and his staff, she was able to hop up on the chair and go through the whole treatment with no fear. This was not the experience with my older child before we switched to this office. She had developed high anxiety with dentists and it wasn't until we switched to Dr. Taylor that she was able to overcome her fears and see visits to the dentist as a positive experience. This place is great. They have video games for the kids to play while waiting. Starting at 2 your kid goes back alone to develop independence and reduce fear for future visits. They are always very fast yet thorough. I also have never met someone who worked there that wasnt nice. I also go to the adult side now, they do a great job and are not as expensive as some other places. read more

I would highly recommend staying from this place. Last year they said my step-daughter a cavity. We questioned it but they still convinced her mom and dad she had one. They repaired it. At her next check up they said there was another cavity. At this point we decided to take her to another dentist. Guess what... No cavity! Toothzone has awesome customer service and a very caring, thorough staff. The kid friendly decor is super cute, fun, and upbeat full of bright colors like red and yellow. If you have a little one, they will especially enjoy it. They will even have spaces to crawl around and play! You'll be greeted by lots of smiling faces while you're there. Everyone is happy to see you and happy to be doing their jobs. There's coffee and creamer and flavored water (cucumber last time) for adults. I have pretty large fear of dental procedures, but I have a tooth with a cavity that is hard to get to. I have had it filled 2x. The first 2 fillings came out and I left them out fr sometime, but then it started to get painful so I had to go back to a dentist. I choose to try this place because my kids like it and they also see adults. The dentist Dr O was gentle and kind. He explained what was happening every step. The staff in general was gentle and kind. I really appreciated that as I have been other places where the run you in and out. My cavity was filled and my entire mouth wasn't numb. It was a localized anesthesia. I was actually pretty impressed. This was the first time my whole mouth wasn't made numb and there was no pain during procedure. I will return for my cleaning. I usually skip because of all the crazy stuff that has happened in the past. I think I found a dentist office once again. I have high hopes for an ongoing patronage here. read more

I and my children have always had good experiences at Tooth Zone UNTIL a couple weeks ago. My daughter was in for a cleaning and the lady tech actually cut a piece of her gums out with the floss ! This was bad enough but when we brought it to the doctors attention he just brushed it off and said it must have been a blood clot or something. And he didn't even sit her back on the chair and take a look. WHAAAAAAÀAAÀAAAAAAAAAAAT ?!? Be careful if you go to the Drake location. read more

Have had problems the last 2 years billing for things that where not needed. They state that insurance should cover, they track how often they can do things and it isn't too soon for yet more xrays. Insurance denied, told them no more xrays period and then they did it again without permission and demand payment. Moving on to new place now, tired of the bs charges. read more

Where do I start with this dental practice. When we first started going to this office I was very impressed with their facility and the services in general. My son needed oral surgery and going into the procedure I gave them both my primary and secondary insurances and stressed that fact several times while filling out the paperwork. I felt comfortable going into this appointment knowing that I had two insurances to cover this procedure. Fast forward some time, they call me and ask for my secondary insurance information. Which was strange I thought because I had already given it to them. I think nothing of it, thinking it was settled. Months down the road I get another phone call that they don't have my mailing address. I give them my mailing address and then am surprised some time later to get a bill for over two thousand dollars. When at the appointment my projected share of the bill I was given was one thousand. I am perplexed as to why this is so, and call them and they tell me that they don't have secondary insurance. I tell them I need to check my records for my information which was on my old destroyed phone and will give it to them. In the time that I had been working with several different people to try to restore my information from my phone I get a notice they've sent me to collections. The whole experience has been a nightmare. I am not a person who doesn't pay my bills and I ask them for the records they have so I can verify it with my child's father at this point. After pouring through what they send me they don't even have the record with my secondary insurance information on it. And yet they're saying they've tried to bill to it and the policy was not found. I call my child's father and he calls blue cross which say they don't have any record of toothzone trying to file a claim with them at all! So by this point, a year later, I am beyond frustrated with the incompetence and inconsistency with which their office staff has handled all of this and am trying to scramble and hope and pray that my sons secondary insurance will somehow understand the situation that has occurred over the past year. I would never go back to this dentists office and honestly if you do, keep every record of everything you provide them, ask for a copy of everything, and be prepared to stay on top of them making sure that they're filing things accordingly. I'm beyond devastated at this whole situation and I hope I can protect someone else who may choose to go here from it. Or just go somewhere else. I've never had this happen with any other practice, dental or doctor. read more
