We bought our condo here in 2024 and we wanted to do some upgrades. We had the guys install some new lighting. What they discovered that time was that the kitchen was not wired up to code and we literally had a fire hazard in the walls. Evidently done by a shotty contractor when the kitchen was remodeled. Justin and Jerimi worked on for hours and then put on on the priority list for the next day to finish the job. We've had them back two more times to install more lighting and fix outlets. These guys are top notch and they work fast and with minimal damage to your property when installing wiring. They clean up and repair any holes they have to make, to the point where you can't tell they've been there. I would recommend them 100%. They do it right the first time. The good The company was very responsive. They returned my calls and in both appointments that I had their electricians were on time. The electrician I had very knowledgable. I had to me what was a somewhat complex case and the guy came out and was able to diagnose the problems and give me a range of solutions depending on my budget. I appreciated the range of options that I was given. The electricians were friendly, professional and did not "dilly-dally" around. There was no talking on cell phone, eating, etc to run up the hourly charge, they got in and out. When diagnosing an issue I overhead a phone conversation from the electrician's boss to the electrician telling him to get back to it so not to run up the customers bill. I appreciated this. Meh I have not used an electrician in a while so I don't have a good bellwether on prices but $1.5k to fix 3 outside sockets and to rewire a microwave to the junction box seemed high. I could be wrong here but that's just my gut. I tried to get an estimated price from the company even after their first inspection but they were unable to quote me a ballpark figure other than the standard call out fee ($130) and hourly charge ($140). The bad Some of the charges were a bit ticky-tak. For example they charged me $40 for the outside electrical socket (as they should) but they then charged another $30 just for the plastic cover. Come on thats BS and felt like a "fu$$-you" charge. Also there were a lot of $2-5 charges just for what should be considered very very minor shop supplies. To the Owner of Top Dog I would like to personally commend your employee Nelson Suarez. Mr Suarez was dispatched to my residence to correct an improperly installed water heater by a plumbing company. The plumbing not only used unauthorized techniques but never called the city permit office to inspect the work. I was notified by the city I was going to be fined for not closing the open permit. Mr Suarez arrived and was very professional throughout the entire visit. I over heard him calling someone from your office several times questioning the work done by the plumbing company. I could tell he didn't want me to fail for the other poor work. He explained everything he was doing and communicated with the inspector office himself. I'm sure you receive plenty of praise about Mr. Suarez already. This is just another for his file. He responded here twice to insure I would pass. Can't tell you how happy I was. Guy and his crew communicated well in person, online and on the phone. The work was impeccable, and while yes, expensive I have the peace of mind knowing that the job was done correctly. I wish I had checked yelp before I hired this company. I agree with the reviewer who called the owner an a..hole. I just got off the phone with him after a screaming match. They came out and charged $140 to diagnose. I assumed that the diagnosis fee would go towards the $1,000 job. My mistake for making that assumption. But when I called and asked about it, he was a total jerk. Started yelling at me. I cannot believe that zero stars is not an option. Because that's what I would give them. There's a reason their average is 2 1/2. I'm assuming the people who gave them good reviews are family members. I would run, not walk, away from this company. read more

The owner of this company is a complete a....e He comes and give you this great talk and in reality they have a terrible customer service. First he will do the job and then he will pull the permits which is illegal in Fl. then he will cut off the power in your house and leave you without any power for days claiming emergency services if you want to restore your power. this company left my house for 2 months without power because of their incompetecy. I made the first payment in January. In March they came and did most of the job. they suppose to pull the permit in January but they only filed for permit in March and it took another month for the permit to be approved. In all this time I had no kitchen, no power in the bathroom, no laundry and we had to used extension cords everywhere to be able to do something. Horrible service, never recommend or hire them. P.S The owner loves to threaten women either with the city inspector or that he will put a lien on their house! read more

Excellent quality. Highly recommend. This job was more difficult than the average replacement due to my building being constructed in 1965 with plaster walls. Chad had to rebuild the wall along with upgrading my service and replacing the box. Polite, on time, professional, did NOT have to run back and forth to his truck because he brought everything with him the first time! Cleaned up when done and didn't take all day. I am so pleased with TDE for their service I called TDE to made the appointment to come to replace outdated outlets and switches at my house. I gave the Secretary at TDE's office , the count of outlets and switches plus faceplates. Seth and Guy showed up on time. They walked around to see outlets and switches I showed. In advance, I moved furnitures to make room for their work in speedy time. I am glad two guys came rather than one guy. One person would end up working all day long. I forgot to tell them about three switches but they took care of it promptly. Labor cost is fair as I expected. Guy showed me the lists what they replaced and discussed with invoice. New switches and outlets look nice. I am satisfied with their service. I am deaf owner of this house. Communication is not problem. just lip-reading or write notes. read more

I had some electrical work done to my house about a week ago. I have to say I was a little nervous calling about this kind of stuff especially being a women and all, I didn't want to get ripped off. I called the office and Roselyn a very wonderful pleasant and reassuring women answered the phone and not even 5 minutes into the conversation I felt as if finally someone with smarts and compassion understood exactly what I wanted. She sent someone to my house to do the estimate and I have to say that I was so happy to see someone who spoke English and very talented and knew exactly what he was doing. BTE fixed an old fountain, and I had them put in an infrared sauna in addition to other jobs. Over the past two or three years I've spent several thousands of dollars with them. Recently my fountain stopped working and I called a seasoned fountain repairman to fix it. He put in a new pump, but couldn't find where the electricity was coming from. I called to ask the man who did the job, and he told me to look where I already had looked. In that case, he said, he didn't know. TDE sent 2 men to find the electricity, which was buried in the plant that they'd placed it behind originally. The men went directly to it, hit the reset button, and charged me $95.00. As a repeat customer, they should have just told me to look deeper into the plant, as they did know exactly where to find it. They definitely do not treat customers well. read more

There are many other licensed electricians out there that will value and honor your business, regardless if the work order is $75 to instal a fan or $3,000 for a big job. EVERYONE BEWARE. Check out other companies first before hiring this one. There's something really suspicious about this whole thing. If you notice the 1st review here on this page, it is from Roslyn S. The person you dealt with is also named Roslyn. The reviewer Roslyn said she was happy with the work she received. I looked up Tog Dog Electric on FL Dept of Business and Professional Regulation, Top Dog Electric was NOT licensed until 08/31/2014. So how was it possible that they were at her house doing the work on 08/01/2014? They were not even in business and licensed under that name yet. Suspicious, isn't it? Also, the manager/receptionist who runs the Top Dog is named Roslyn. So, wouldn't you agree that Roslyn who did the A+ reviewer is the same Roslyn who owns this Top Dog business?! She was never a customer. She was the 1st reviewer - usually the 1st reviewer on Yelp is the business owner. We all know that. Consumers, do your research. Don't settle for Top Dog. I wish that I would have checked this company out and read the one other review, here, prior to trying to work with them. My wife and I just had a very similar experience. All I can say is that I have never experienced worse customer service than what I experience with Roselyn. It is really unfortunate because their electrician actually got to us and did the work professionally. They did some work for us and then needed to come back to take care of a second issue. We were never called to schedule an appt. Instead the electrician showed up at our house unexpected. When my wife told the electrician that we weren't expecting them, he even said to us that this has happened before. After they completed the second job they invoiced us for the amount of work they did, which ended up being less than the original quote we were given. However, after they left, my wife had a question about the bill and called the office and had the same extreme displeasure of speaking to Roselyn. When my wife asked why they never called to schedule she flat out lied and told her that she had confirmed with me on monday (not true - and I have the phone log to prove it). Further, she attacked her saying.... "what do you not speak to your husband". Then when my wife asked about the billing issue (thinking that they actually over charged us) she said that we owed them more money. That we should have been charged the quoted amount, not for the amount of time the job actually took and that she had confirmed the price with me when we spoke on Monday (again a conversation that never took place). When we called and tried to sort this out together, Roseyln wouldn't let us speak, proceeded to yell at me, call me a liar, explain how good she is at her job and that she didn't care about us as customers. I had used this Top Dog Electric a few weeks earlier to hang two chandelier. On that visit their was a senior technician and a trainee named Junior who is also the owner's son. In addition to being told that Junior was a trainee, it was obvious by his lack of knowledge and skill and I was not billed for his time on that visit. When they showed up to hang the chandelier on this visit, it was the same two technicians. I assumed that I would not be billed for the second technician as the job only required one technician, Junior had just been there about 3 weeks earlier and I was not billed as he was in training, and I was never told that a second technician was coming or that I would be billed for him. Prior to their arrival, I had already unboxed, lifted, and carried the chandelier to the room that it was being installed in. The chandelier was only about 70 pounds which was about the same as the one that was previously hung where it was being installed. During the installation, Junior did not really do anything of value. I wasn't worried about this as I assumed that I would not be billed for his time. Junior did insist on going into my attic to see if he could access above where the chandelier was being hung; he did this even though I repeatedly told him that it was inaccessible. Junior incorrectly screwed in a part at the top of the fixture as the technician was preparing the ceiling box. This mistake had to be corrected by taking down the chandelier after it was hung, fixing the mistake and then rehanging it. This mistake took the actual technician about an extra 30 minutes to fix. Junior also set tools and trash on our furniture which I removed and luckily it did not damage the furniture. When Junior exited the man door from the garage and came back in, I had to go behind him and lock the door. Basically Junior has a lot to learn. He is very nice and polite but is just not ready for the job yet. The job took 2.5 hours to hang one light fixture where there was already a box and power. Even with the extra security that they added for the weight of the chandelier, the job should have been able to be performed by one person in less than an hour and a half. I installed a much heavier and larger 28 light chandelier on a much higher ceiling at my last house and it only took the technician less than an hour to do that. Once the chandelier was hung, I installed the globes and light bulbs and I also swept and cleaned up the area. The electrician would have likely done this but I had already seen that the job had taken much longer than expected to and I was glad to help out. While I was cleaning up and installing the bulbs and globes, the technician replaced a breaker and outlet in my garage which took 30 minutes. This seemed like reasonable and fair amount of time to do that. When the job was finished, I was surprised to get a bill for 3 hours of Junior's labor (at a reduced rate- $50 per hour instead of $75). I told the technician that I should not have to pay for Junior's time as I was not told that I would need to ahead of time, the job did not need a second technician (as I easily could have lifted the fixture to the tech), I had not paid for Junior being their 3 weeks earlier, Junior did not really get anything done and in fact he cost extra time to the actual technician. There is no way that a customer should have to pay for 5 hours of labor to hang a chandelier that was already unboxed and already had power and ceiling mount to the location it was being installed. The company disagreed and insisted on continuing to bill me for the owner's sons labor even though he doesn't know the industry and actually caused the job to take longer. I have contacted my credit card company to charge back the labor difference and they have already refunded me and ruled in my favor. I have hired at least 15 contractors from Angie's List over the past several years and I have not had any problems with any of them. I am also a licensed contractor so I know and understand what industry norms are and how long different tasks should reasonably take. My opinion is that 5 hours of labor for the job that was done is about 3 x longer than it should have actually taken. Instead of realizing this and adjusting the bill, Top Dog Electric decided that they would not adjust the labor charge. I encourage you to consider this information when selecting an electrician for your job. read more

I scheduled TDE to repair an outlet switch that was being tripped by my breaker panel. I took advantage of the Angie's List $99 for 2 hour deal. The tech arrived and found my problem but wasn't able to complete the job because he only had 1 wire connector in his truck. He had to go to his supplier to get 3 additional connectors which took him an extra 45 minutes. He charged me an additional $71 to travel for those connectors. Seems to me his truck should have been adequately stocked to do a job! Beware!! read more

I had some work done on an old building where all the wiring had to be gutted. Guy and his team did a great job, on time and on budget. Other electricians ran away from this job but these guys tackled it head on, getting the permits, making drawings, and taking care of business without complaint or hesitation. They even passed inspection before they originally promised. If an electrician wants to get multiple people out just to look in an attic to diagnose a problem (especially when I conveyed that in my initial call) - that's an issue. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company! Had work scheduled for Monday, took off work to be there while the work was done... Got a call 30 mins prior to the appointment time saying they wouldn't make it. No apology, nothing. Rescheduled for Tuesday. Took off ANOTHER day of work, only for JASON to show up and immediately say this is too much work and he can't complete it all. Went outside, called his boss and could hear him cussing about how this job was "f-ing bullshit" Both workers had terrible attitudes and neither seemed like they wanted to do the job they were being PAID for. He ended up starting the work 20 minutes later, only to then say that their time starts when they pull into the driveway. All in all, the work did not get completed as I was robbed of 20 minutes of work. Jason, you really need to re evaluate your life and find another job if you hate this one so much.
