This is in my top five favorites for donair places. We always make a point of picking up here if we're in the neighborhood. I have the mixed donair salad and my companion has the lamb shank. The food is consistently good quality and prepared with consistency. One thing I really like is I can get the salad with the donair meats separate and the dressing too allowing for me to mix it up myself as desired. Don't you just love Easter weekend? The only issue is that so many places are closed for the holiday - well, not Top Donair, which meant I was able to try them out for the first time. Located literally three doors down from Swiss Donair, these two donair joints compete neck and neck for your donair dollahs. I came in to grab a late Sunday lunch (around 1:30pm) and there quite a few others ordering in, but most individuals were doing take out. Not me, I didn't want my car smelling like donair for the next three days, haha. The lady working the till is to the point but asks you what options you want in your donair (lettuce, tomato, onion, hot peppers) along with the type of sauce (garlic, tzatziki or sweet). Decent selection to choose from (your typical donairs and their respective combos to burgers, fries/poutine, pizzas, salad and subs). They even had chicken wings and baklava, which if I'm not mistaken, comes from Cedar Sweets. The baklava looked scrumptious. - Super chicken donair combo ($11.75) - you have four sizes to choose from: regular, super, jumbo and kids. I went with the super combo (comes with a drink) as my breakfast was almost non-existent, meaning I was ready to eat my whole meal. Which I did. The chicken donair was devoured along with all the fries, which were nicely seasoned. The chicken were tender, good sized pieces. The garlic sauce was tasty but not too pungent. I also liked how it wasn't doused in sauce, it was mixed in well with the donair so that each bite had the perfect amount of sauce to it. Solid spot to grab a quick bite to eat if you're in the area. Next time, I will have to try out their pizzas (which are reasonably priced at $8.50-$11.50 for 10" and $11.00-$15.50 for 12"). And did I mention Top Donair is open till 2:00AM Friday/Saturdays? The cook was extremely rude. They didn't give me a proper receipt for my order. It cost $30.50 . What I ordered was a kids beef cheese donair. A regular beef donair combo with routine and a drink. I added up the total and it should have been only $26. Than when I got home they gave me an extra fries which I didn't order and charged me for it. I'm never going back there again. One of my coworkers had mentioned that there was a good donair shop on 82 st. She had failed to say which one it was, so I thought I would chance it and stop by Top Donair, and wasn't disappointed. It was also the consensus of the other two people who I picked donairs up for that it was "pretty good". They have a fairly large menu serving burgers, fries, and a variety of donairs. We came here after a concert earlier this week. There was 1 couple in line ahead of us. There was also only one person working. The place filled up with concert goers, the worker took everyone's orders & payment before starting to make any food. There was at one point 25 of us waiting for food together. This place is, for all intents and purposes, in the same building as Edmonton's famed Swiss Donair. Not my favorite spot, but Swiss has always had somewhat of a cult following. The only other similar buisness that are typically this close are liquor stores! Anyway...I digress! Made the run in for lunch. A super beef with sweet sauce, bottle of water and side of garlic sauce ran a reasonable $11.50. Restaurant is shiney, and new. Staff is friendly enough. One was even washing the exterior windows. Cudos. Donair was a little small to be called a Super...but at only $9...It's fair. Another shop with 4 sizes. Kids size is apparently growing in popularity, as well it should. I'll just consider it a "snack size"! Sweet sauce seemed good. Disappeared pretty well in the mix, but could be tasted. Veggies were a little lackluster both in quality and quantity, but not bad per say. Pita was fresh. Meat was likely the thinnest I have ever seen but still juicy and well seasoned. Garlic sauce was solid, but had a distinct ceaser salad dressing feel. All in all. I'm impressed! I would be thrilled to have these folks as my local shop! My family and I had the Afghan special and a couple donairs. Everything was super tasty and really nice looking. I had the saffron rice it was tasty and fluffy. The chicken was moist and the beef nicely spiced. Yogurt with dill was great with everything. The donairs was HUGE and really spicy but good spicy. So big we couldn't eat everything. The Afghani tea with cardamom was phenomenal accompaniment. Really, really good. I'm coming back. read more

The donairs here are delicious and flavourful. In comparison to many other previous donairs I've tried, the donairs at Top Donair are not as greasy and messy, which is nice. My favorite donair place.. It might be underrated because Swiss beside it is a great place. But I prefer this place. Not too crowded, great taste and big size donair. I was skeptic to order their pizza and chicken wings but I still did give it a shot. To my surprise it is actually really good... Better than buster , dominos or any other pizza delivery place that I tried. Their pizza crust is not dry.. Its more like buttery, moist crusty dough. Been here a few times, even right after it opened, and found my experiences enjoyable. Prices were quite low when it first opened and the serving sizes were very generous. It has eventually tapered down to an equal and fair pricing with fair serving sizes. So far so good. But on my last visit here, I was tolerating my drier than usual donair, until I bit on something very hard and solid near the end. I had thought I lost a tooth and immediately spit out the contents. To my dismay, it turned out to be a half-inch bolt. I immediately brought to the cashiers attention and she showed it to one of the gentlemen working the line in the back. He said that they were very sorry. I went back to my chair to pack up and throw everything away but I waited for a couple of minutes to see if anyone would follow up with me. I used to frequent swiss donair next door. So when top opened up i was skeptical of why they would try to compete. As time passed the quality of swiss dropped so i thought I'd try top donair. Ever since then I skip swiss and head straight to top. They offer more toppings such as pickles, olives and banana peppers which is a great addition as the acidity helps cut the heaviness of the donair. On the top donair i noticed they put a bit of bbq sauce on which at first i wasnt too sure about but it works wonderfully. The chicken donair is very well seasoned and the protien is remains moist where with a lot of places the chicken tends to be dried out. Staff is really friendly and are extra accommodating if they've seen you there before. read more

Went to top Donair March. 25th 1:15 am. Ordered a jumbo chicken Donair. Asked for extra banana peppers and all the sauces. The Donair was terrible, it had no flavour and no banana peppers when asked specifically for extra banana peppers. The chicken was unchewable. On top of that I couldn't see them make it. Best donair I've had so far, and I've tried a lot of different ones. The meat has a spiciness to it. They make the meat thin slices. And their sweet sauce is excellent. They also have other options for food, of course. Like burgers, pizza and meat skewers with rice and stuff. I still have to try that. BUYER BEWARE!!! I ordered food from here for delivery, we told the lady that we can give the driver directions if he calls us because it doesn't register on the gps as its a new area. They failed to call us and the driver went downtown instead. We tried over numerous calls with the driver to give him directions to our house and he would not listen to what we were saying and was lost the whole time.After 1hour and 20 minutes our food showed up. It was cold and soggy. We called to complain they told us to warm it up in the microwave (in a foil wrapper??) or hold on to it till Tuesday and bring it back. They said they would give us 5$ off our next order or free delivery. At first we were ok with them bringing us a new one but they said they couldn't because they would have to pay the driver out of their pocket and with the attitude and resistance we were worried about our food being tampered with so we asked for our money back so we could order food from somewhere else. We treat ourselves once in awhile and this was our supper for the night. They refused to give our money back. We had a few lengthy conversations after being hung up on and being talked to very rudely they refused to take responsibility for their drivers error and thought we should just take the food as is. They told us that no restaurants will give your money back for cold food and we should call pizza 73 and ask them because they know they won't give money back for cold food. The owner then told us he would bring our money back within 30-60 minutes and we asked him to try to ASAP as we have a baby that I need to be up with. An hour and a half later we called again around 1130pm and he said he could not come because his kids were at the restaurant and they were busy. We called from our other phone to ask if they we busy and they said no not at all. We constantly got the run around and had the WORST customer service ever!! I feel like I paid for something I didn't receive, I did not order cold soggy donairs so why would I pay for them. These actions speak volumes about their character as business owners,These people take no responsibly for their employees and I'm disgusted as a customer. I feel cheated and ripped off. And here I am the next day with 29$ less in the bank, (yes only 29$ ) old soggy food in the fridge that I'm being forced to keep in my fridge till Tuesday (as they are too busy to deal with us today and are not open till Tuesday) and a absolutely disgusted taste in my mouth, I would warn any consumer not to order from this place.
