Had an great experience here not once but for BOTH of my first visits with Vicky for my haircut and Susan for my much needed brow wax! Hair- haven't had a haircut since pre-covid and needed some weight lifted off my shoulders! Vicky came through! Brow wax- Susan did just what I wanted and cleaned up my bushy brows and made me look semi normal again! Well worth the $25 to clean up the mess I had. I'm really picky about how my hair is cut, styled, and colored. I'd been growing it out for about 3 years until it was at my desired length and all color from previous dye jobs had grown out. I went to Top Notch Salon because it was time to clean it up and have a bit of fun with it! I had an appointment with Falisha and I was not disappointed in the least! She did exactly what I asked for; 3 inches off the length, long layers, and side swept bangs. I also decided to get dark red lowlights and she did an amazing job! It was a 3+ hour job because she said she wanted to take her time and make sure that the damage to my hair was minimal if any. I was referred to Susan Siller, Esthetitian. My friend bragged about her treatments. I have to say that my friend's was short in her compliments to Susan. I feel like she took me to heaven! She not only gab me me a facial she also massages my arms and hands the way I like and also gave me an amazing neck/shoulder massage. The facial massage at the end was DIVINE! And aromatic. She left me "cooking" for awhile alone in the room that gave me time to decompress from my day more, I would give her 10 stars. I have been searching for the holy grail of salons for what seems like an eternity; a place that's friendly, accommodating, reasonable, offers full services and preferably uses my favorite products, Aveda. So excited to say I don't have to search any longer! I was in need of some major grooming so went ahead and got it all at Top Notch Salon; I'm a stay at home mom with a little one so I don't get many opportunities to take off hours for pampering. Boy am I glad I went to Top Notch to do so! I was greeted by a friendly receptionist, Angela who offered me some yummy tea while I waited for Susan, the aesthetician to get me. I had my eyelashes tinted (who knew such amazing things can be done?! No mascara = no problem!!!) and after a nice consult she shaped and waxed my eyebrows, they're finally symmetrical and perfect. What a difference some good eyebrow shaping makes!! Then my stylist Falisha started the very laborious task of tackling my thick, long hair. Most hairdressers are kind of turned off by what a task it is (I wanted ombré, see my pics above) but Falisha was genuinely excited to give me a new look. She asked me questions like, "do you put your hair up' Cause I need to put color accordingly so your highlights look good when your hair is back." WOW! Never thought of that. Love love love the attention to detail! Needless to say my hair turned out identical to the photo I showed her; which has never happened to me before. Unfortunately, I was having my hair bleached, and the damage was pretty bad. I have fine hair, so you can imagine how dry and frizzy my ends were. I called Vicky, and she has literally saved my hair. She explained the plan for repairing my hair. My hair is finally looking better and healthier. I am transitioning to my natural hair color of dark blonde which I actually think looks better on me. I love this place! I found Falisha through an old college friend, and she is amazing! The first time I went in, she really listened to what I wanted and gave me her own thoughts on what would work and what would be hard to maintain. We decided with a natural looking ombre and then added some stripes of purple and blue at the ends! After a little thinning out and fixing me up, I felt like a brand new person! I've now gone back a second time, and we decided to go even lighter with my color, and then decided to just throw purple all over it! I walked away with the biggest smile on my face! Felicia at Top Notch has been best decision I have made for my hair needs...I normally would get those typical quick and cheap men's cuts, but when I went to see Felicia for the first time it was almost like she was building complex plan for my hair, completely caught me off guard, never had I seen anyone treat a men's cut like an art form! She found exactly the type of look I was going for, and always does an amazing job, much better than the normal cuts I was getting...every time I go in it is fast and easy, and she always remembers what cut I like to get! I just moved to Southern California for good after visiting 7-10 times a year for the past 3 years. That being said, I am a tried and true Aveda-only client when it comes to my hair color. Needless to say that I was extremely nervous to try someone new out in SoCal after being with my other stylist for so many years, but I was not disappointed. The salon itself is in an older building and you can tell the salon has been there for a number of years just by the architecture in the salon. The space is decorated nicely and there is a section of organic and natural products to buy, which completely goes with the Aveda theme. They had purses, shirts, and jewelry all organic. The stylist stations were clean and organized- 5 stations if I remember correctly. LOTS of Aveda products available for purchase too. Shannon was my stylist, a cute, hip blonde woman who was sweet as pie. I told her I wanted to keep the same level and just add a red hue. She was talkative and we gossiped as is expected in salons and it made the experience enjoyable. When she was done putting the color on my hair and told me we would let it sit for 30 minutes she welcomed another client and sat them in a chair behind me across the salon. She began putting color on the other woman's hair, which I have NEVER seen before- a stylist being scheduled 2 clients within a 30-minute time frame. I understand that things go according to plan more times than not, but in the rare chance after shampooing and washing out the color the color is horrid and needs to be redone that would cut into the other client's processing time. Although different it didn't affect my experience as my color turned out beautifully and exactly as I expected. All of the other stylists and staff were kind and offered me a drink multiple times to ensure I was taken care of. The service and experience was a great value for the price and I feel confident having Shannon color my hair again. I decided against a hair cut as I am trying to grow it out, so I cannot comment on her skills there. I'd recommend this salon to another girlfriend, definitely. read more

She is the best and most gifted esthetician in Orange County. Susan expertise and knowledge of skin care is off the charts. We alternate between dual exfoliations peels and enzyme peels, my skin has never looked better. Are there really no reviews for Top Notch? From what I can tell, it's been there just about forever. This is a down-to-earth, no attitude, friendly, and not overpriced Aveda salon. I've been getting my hair done there for probably 6 years. I always go to Shannon. She does a really nice job with my long layered haircut and golden highlights. For multiple reasons - busy schedule, tight budget, afraid to damage my hair with the coloring - I only go in every 3 to 4 months. It doesn't look terrible in between, but boy can I see the difference when I leave Shannon's chair! In addition to all that, she's really sweet and easy to talk to, will do what you ask (some stylists only want to bring their own creative vision to life on your head), and will throw in a bang trim free in-between appointments for her clients. They are a full service salon, also offering facials, massages, and nail services. And of course you can stock up on Aveda products there too. read more

Too bad it took so long to find Felicia! We are very conscientious about the chemicals in the hair products we use, especially for color treatment but we found this Aveda salon to be a great option for us. We scheduled an appointment for a cut and color for my wife and a cut for me. Luckily we were scheduled with Felicia. She is AMAZING!!!!!! I moved here from back east and I was missing my hairdresser from home. I discovered Top Notch searching for an Aveda product salon in order to maintain the exact color I have. I have been to Top Notch only a few times. The desk service is always friendly, the place is very clean, and the stylists are always happy and very nice. The quality of the hair cut is good and my color is perfect. My only reason for not giving them 5 stars is that each time I visited the salon, I've had to change stylists due to them leaving the salon. My last stylist is about to have her baby and she will be leaving next which leaves me in which stylist's hands next? I don't like that feeling. read more

I am so grateful to have found my hairdresser, Shannon at Top Notch Salon! The salon is a comfortable and cute little place with great clothes, products and amazing jewelry also made by Shannon. I hadn't used Aveda in years so Shannon had to start from scratch with me. She made all the right recommendations for my hair. She said that Aveda color would actually make my hair healthier, and it did! I go to a hairdresser because I want thier expert opinion and Shannon always provides that, she always makes suggestions that could help my hair but at the same times she works within the guidelines of what I want. I bought a groupon today for $30 for $60 worth of services. I used the website to request an appointment as Top Notch has an online form for scheduling - no one called me back so I called them. They said, "Yeah, we don't check that. It's better to call." I paused in awkward silence and thought to myself "WTF then don't have it on your website!!!" In addition when I tried to schedule my manicure/pedicure, the woman on the phone apologized saying the groupon was only good for hair services and she was sorry that wasn't clear. I thought to myself for the second time, "WTF??? It wasn't clear because that wasn't stated on the groupon." Needless to say - she could of offered to go ahead and take care of me, apologize, and then call groupon once we were finished speaking. None of which she did. Well, I don't trust this place with a scissors to my head or any of their other services. Plus they need a few management trainings on customer service. Yes, I will change my post if they read this offer me my effin' discount toward a mani/pedi and provide top level customer service to boot. I've been going to this salon for about ten years, and seeing Angelique for about 7 years. I originally came to Top Notch because I'm a loyal Aveda customer, but I can't imagine going anywhere else. I can't say enough great things about Angelique! I've had multiple cuts and colors done, and they always turn out perfectly. She even fixed my hair when I've cheated and visited another salon (and did an amazing job with the disaster left behind by the other stylist). I'm not very good at planning ahead and always seem to need a last-minute cut for some event, and she always fits me in somehow.
